i wanted post 500 to be "Jerry Blevins, the Mets best (only good) reliever in 2017, walks Dodger Reliever Pedro Baez on 4 pitches with the bases loaded in a 1 run deficit in the 8th inning."

then he walked the next guy on 6 pitches.

ok

Nick the Mets won 87 last year with horrible injuries to nearly every single player. They literally could not be more injured this year and now they have more depth than they did - and they added depth from the start of last year and otherwise it's basically the same team. There is absolutely no way they win less games than last year. None. Zero.

Darvish struck out the side in the 7th to bring his count to 10 on the night

Wouldn't be surprised if Tanaka did the exact same thing in the top of the 8th to bring himself to the same total LOL

Just got back from the Royals game. Holy shit that was nuts. I saw that if Moustakas got out, we'd need all of Moss, Escobar, and Gordon to get on base to score 3 runs, so we started heading toward the gate when he lined out. We stood kinda close to the gate and watched from there in the outfield as Moss drew a walk, Escobar blooped a single, Gordon snuck one out of the outfield, and Merrifield drove them all in to win.

That place was going bonkers. Easily the best game I've ever seen in person of any sport.

I just counted. It does NOT include walks, somehow. Because I got 32 that way.

Two other fun facts I found:
1. The first batter of the inning has always reached base.
2. In only 2 of 8 innings, an out was recorded before a runner reached second base. Those were the two scoreless innings.

Tim Tebow made his High-A debut today with the St. Lucie Mets. He just hit a two-run homer in the second game of a doubleheader.

In non-Tebow news, I started thinking about my All Star Game roster predictions. I remember I did surprisingly well in my first attempt last season, so I wanted to try again. However, it's looking a bit tougher this year. Pitchers overall are less impressive, as offense has increased, but offense has increased across the board so it feels like there are less standouts among position players. Also, there are two less roster spots this year, so it could be a bit more of a crunch, but I haven't even gotten that far yet. Fortunately, assuming Ozuna holds off Heyward, the fan vote isn't generating anything super egregious.

Cody Bellinger will be an interesting one to think about. The National League outfield in terms of reserves is extremely weak, so could he possibly make it as a write-in from the players' ballot? The problem is he's splitting his time between outfield and first base, so I think it's pretty unlikely. I believe Mike Trout made it in as a write-in from the players' ballot in his rookie season, but that's Mike Trout. Bryce Harper and Kris Bryant, by comparison, made the team as injury replacements in their respective rookie seasons (interestingly, both for Stanton). So Bellinger might have to settle for that as well, but I'm sure Manfred will be inclined to get him there, so he'll probably select him. [Of course, he could also end up being put in the Final Vote and winning, although Harper finished third in the Final Vote in his rookie season behind David Freese and Michael Bourn.]

From a Mets standpoint, there'd been a big push to get Conforto in as a write-in, although that obviously was never going to happen on the fan ballot, and he probably hasn't stood out enough (like Bellinger has) to make it through the players' ballot. If it was coming down to the commissioner's selection and he had to pick one representative between Conforto, Bruce, and deGrom, it would've been pretty even and could've leaned towards Conforto. But with the NL outfield being so weak, I think Bruce probably gets voted in through the players' ballot and Conforto is left on the outside. I haven't looked deeply enough into pitchers yet, but deGrom is probably on the bubble right now at best. He's had his struggles this season but also some excellent starts. Manfred could select deGrom as the lone Mets rep if needed, but if it's not needed, then it might not happen.

You should try to predict the Phillies All-Star Game representative. Due to the rules of the All-Star Game, every team needs to have at least one representative.

For the Phillies, the most likely candidate is Pat Neshek, but Aaron Altherr is also a possible option. Depending on what type of player Joe Maddon needs for his NL roster probably determines which one gets selected.

The host Marlins, despite their struggles, could end up with three selections. Tentatively, I like Stanton and Realmuto to be selected as reserves in the players' ballot, plus Ozuna earning the start. Does McCutchen have a chance after missing out last year? Again, NL outfield is so shallow.

Also, I think reserve AL 1B is a big debate, with LoMo, Smoak, Yonder Alonso, and Miguel Cabrera (probably not Cabrera) as possibilities. And whoever ends up getting that could have a ripple effect, because whoever misses out might need to be selected as that team's representative, and Manfred is only going to be able to select one position player for the AL. Hopefully Corey Dickerson makes it as a DH to cover the Rays, although Edwin Encarnacion could make it instead. Ideally it would be Dickerson as DH and Smoak as 1B, but things don't have to work out so nicely. If Encarnacion makes it, things could get ugly.

Yeah, it's probably just gonna be Neshek for the Phillies. They're so bad. They're so, so bad. There are probably too many deserving hitters to justify selecting Altherr, and he hasn't really been good lately anyway, just a flash in the pan when he came in for Howie Kendrick. Manfred will only be able to select three position players for the NL, and I think at least two of those will be first basemen (which is okay because they'll fill out the DH position). It could even be all three. His four pitcher selections should be more expendable.
