Welcome one, welcome all, to a topic where people besides Han or Eddv promise to host one-shots but never do.

What is this Han?

All it is is a community of Board 8 D&D(slash pathfinder, slash other systems) players to get together and try to play games. If you want to host a single session, then VOLUNTEER AND JUMP IN FEET FIRST! Nobody should be afraid of trying to DM for the first time, because in the end, you can just make stuff up and your players have to deal with it!



Han wants to start a 5e campaign?

YES. I am suffering from emotional despair, and one of the things I've been toying around with is starting a campaign so I can tell stories with a group of characters whom I can only tangentially influence. FUN.

So what's this campaign about? Simply put, the continent is at war. Northmount, the most diplomatically forward of the nations, surprised everyone by declaring war and invading the lands of the Khotan League, a nation of unified city states. The reasoning behind this invasion is murky, but the Khotan people defend their lands fiercely.

You as a PC are a new recruit in the Khotan army.

The campaign would likely meet Tuesday nights, maybe around 8pm. If enough people are interested, then I might need to host two separate groups every other week. We would play on discord with voice chat, with me maybe hopping into roll20 when I get comfortable, for maps' sake.

I could maybe do Tuesdays at 8pm (EST?) but probably only if they're short games, since I open most mornings.

also I'm interviewing for a 3rd shift position so if that happens it's definitely a no-go, but that's still up in the air atm

Scenario #7 - Among the Living

Famed Pathfinder Bodriggan Wuthers disappeared from his dig site beneath the House of the Immortal Son in Taldor's gilded capital of Oppara. Once a grand temple to Aroden, the Immortal Son is now Oppara's most opulent theater. Sent to locate Wuthers, the Pathfinders must attend an opera with members of the Oppara elite in order to gain access to the secretive theater's dig site. Can you charm your way into saving a legend?

Anyone is welcome! The original thought was that we'd have a community of one shots, but it's just been me on 5e and Eddv on PF and now I want to start a campaign.


If enough people want to play in mine and can't make Tuesdays, we can look at other times.

Do I need anything to play other than showing up and doing my thing? The barrier to entry has always stopped me from participating cus it seems like I need to know exactly what's going when I won't. But RPing like a drunken dwarf or something sounds like a bit of a laugh.

Mine plans to be an actual campaign but depending on numbers could work out.

Since my normal groups appear to have fallen apart I'm now more able to play both campaigns and one-shots than I was last time this topic was a thing.

Tuesday/8 PM doesn't work for me with having to work the next morning, unless it's only like 2ish hours per session though, so ~_~

Campaign Info

Basically what I said before. You are a new recruit in the Khotan army (combat or related in some other way that we can work out). Whatever reason you have, or if you need help coming up with a reason, we can figure that out.

Your current home nation, the Khotan League, was recently invaded by the country of Northmount. This surprised most people, as Northmount always appeared to be the nation that tried its hardest to maintain peace in the realm. Nevertheless, the other nations have kept their hands clean of the war, letting it play out within the lands bordering Khota and Northmount.


A few little write-ups about some nations:
City States of Khota - Though most of the nations in the area tend to revolve around one capital city that rules the land, Khota is a collection of city states that banded together with the purpose of reducing war over resources and becoming a stronger military body to not be affected by the nations around it. The league mainly borders the north shore of Loch Khota, a lake that lies to the south of Northmount and Teye’s Grove. The combined city states share perhaps the most diversity of any nation on the continent. They are ruled by a council that has representation from each of the six member city states. This council tries to represent its combined members as best it can, though occasionally one city state or another may make moves to gain more power.

Northmount - One of the oldest homes of aristocracy on the continent, Northmount actually lies in the northwest corner of the land. The eponymous capital city lies at the northern edge of the country, right at the base of the World's Edge mountain range. The largest mountain in the range has a large lake at its base, with a large island in the middle. This island is home to Castle Hychol, the ruling seat of the kingdom. While one side of the lake touches the mountains, the other side gives way to a sprawling city that extends out, following a river that makes its way west, to the larger Khota river. The majority of the nation’s populace lives in the capital city or in farms and hamlets that follow the river, though the plains south and southeast of the capital also pay tithe to the kingdom.

Northmount is most famed for being the center of diplomacy, hosting the Midsummer's Ball every year, inviting rulers from across the continent. This ball is one of the most important international events on the continent, and it is theorized that the invasion was borne from the events of the previous Midsummer's Ball.


Teye’s Grove - A nation that lies in the middle of the Dubbel Forest, east of Northmount. Teyetians seem to keep to themselves and their territory throughout most of the year, though they seem to try to get their fingers in every pie at the Midsummer’s Ball. Since they typically keep to themselves more often than not, Teye’s Grove is home to more… peculiar races than Northmount. Elves and half-elves are plentiful here, and the forest is the home of the Firbolgs. Wood gnomes helped establish many of the smaller villagers towards the edge of the nation. It is said to be a very welcoming place, but those who seek adventure often find themselves stifled if they live there for too long.

Khet’s Crossing - Khet’s Crossing, or Khet for short, is based around a single standing mountain of the same name and the city that crosses the river Khet which feeds into Loch Khota. The river Khet’s source is in the mountain, and as it flows towards the lake, its shores spread, leading to an uncrossable river. Closer to the mountain, the river is thinner, and that is where the city of Khet’s Crossing stands. The territory belonging to Khet stretches west to Khota, north to the outskirts of the desert, and east and south towards the shore, going almost halfway around the south side of Loch Khota.

The most recent city state to join the league of Khota used to be within the borders of Khet. It requested its sovereignty, which Khet denied. Therefore, with the league’s aid, a war broke out for independence, resulting in Khet’s loss. Because of this, there is bad blood between the two nations.

Khet is a bit of a diverse nation, though it has primarily humans and halflings. The nation is a sort of theocracy, based on the mountain Khet which is the source of the river Khet, which flows into Loch Khota, which further flows down the Khota river which dumps into the sea after passing Northmount river. The religion was created due to the abnormal amount of water that pours from Khet, and the theocracy looks unkindly upon blasphemers.


Darin’s Hall - Rounding out the rest of the shoreline of Loch Khota is the youngest nation on the continent, Darin’s Hall, a fiefdom surrounding the small Darinia mountain range where the Hall resides. Primarily a nation of dwarves, Darin’s Hall didn’t come together in union until after the threat of Arrantar arose. Fearing for their safety against the Half-orc nation, many of the smaller communities surrounding the Darinia mountains pledged loyalty and tithe to the Dwarvish king. This new nation also brought in some of the communities to the east, who seeked to avoid the theocracy of Khet. Because of these relations, Darin’s Hall finds itself at odds with Arrantar militarily and with Khet diplomatically.

The rulers of Darin’s Hall had never wanted to expand outside their mountain, though the needs of the outside land forced them to care for the outside world. Because of this, the dwarves often speak out of turn concerning international events, as they feel compelled to offer their voices but still lack the courtly graces of those accustomed to ruling over many people.


Ravenswood - Directly across from where Northmount river lets out into the Khota river, within a sparse forest is the kingdom of Ravenswood. Primarily human and elvish, Ravenswood is a nation that is possessive of its land and status. Though it usually would exert some influence on the smaller communities south of the forest, the rise of Arrantar has led Ravenswood to take either a more active hand in protecting those lands or a much less active hand - depending on the money. Being a nation run by schemers, the ruling class of Ravenswood understands that it is worth it to leave some villages to be overrun by the burgeoning raiders of Arrantar. However, should the half-orcs cross into the forest, they would find themselves fighting a much more difficult war.

Ravenswood looks down upon most races, recognizing humans and elves as the elite and giving respect to dwarves who live mostly southeast of them. Other races generally do not fare as well, and the only people who are worth less than half-orcs are half-elves, who are forbidden by law from being created within the bounds of Ravenswood.

Arrantar - The second youngest nation on the continent, Arrantar came to be when half-orc slaves working the fertile lands on the southwestern corner of the continent rose up against their masters. Banding together, the half-orcs raided the countryside, setting free all of the slaves and establishing a new nation, free from civil injustice and racial cruelty. Of course, the wounds of the past are hard to forget. Arrantar raiding parties will often take over small communities, promising to treat all peoples the same, but those who are not half-orc are often treated like second-class citizens, and find their career options limited, to say the least.

Because of Arrantar’s influence as a rising nation, Ravenswood which lies north had to become much more conscious of its borders. Additionally, the lands to the east united to create the nation of Darin’s Hall, and the single city state of Khota across the Khota river rebuilt itself into a military citadel. Additionally, Arrantar’s influence caused many nations across the continent to denounce and ban half-orc slavery, though it is still present in some places.



Machon - Machon is the most distant of the eight nations. The northeast corner of the continent is covered in a vast desert - land seemingly shunned by the water-giving mountain of Khet. Because of this, the land is not highly populated, at least inland. Machon has some oasis communities, but its largest city lies on the coast, far from access to the rest of the continent. This isolation results in a nation that is uninvolved with the affairs of the rest, though they make sure to keep a presence in events like the Midsummer’s Ball. They seem to want the rest to know that they are members of the continent too.
