I think they actually have gotten smaller over the decades, but at a far far slower rate than people are getting fatter. Really it's lean tall people who should be bitching as they can't help being tall whereas fat people can help being fat usually.

I didn't even think of this. Now I can't help but think about how awful it would be to burn to death on a plane because the super morbidly obese person next to you can't get out quickly enough for you to escape.

Neither did I. Though honestly this could apply to anyone and not just those who are fat. Someone fit and thin could very well freeze up from fear which could also cause issues.

It's not discrimination and it's not illegal. If you literally can't fit in one seat and you need to two then why shouldn't you have to buy two tickets? You require two seats.

Your view is too narrow.

The point you are missing is that people come is all shapes and sizes. Prime example is I have wide shoulders. The breadth of my shoulders are wider than a single plane seat. As it is I buy window seats and lean into the wall so my shoulder doesn't touch the person next time.

Should I have to buy two seats. What if it was a woman with wide hips. Should she have to buy two because her hips spill over.

Its foolish. The root cause is that the airline tries to jam as many people as possible to make the most amount of profits from a flight. The seats are too small for everyone.

But its easier to blame fat people.

Some companies do have policies forcing it
KLM for instance, (looked it up after i made this topic)
If you are large enough to not fit one of their standard seatbelts you have to pay for a second seat, if there isnt enough space in your seat catagory, without bumping you down, (they can bump you up or might bump someone else up) you have to wait for the next flight.

I'm gonna say its fat people mostly. I mean, it's not like there aren't the smelly or ICOYAR types that I wouldn't wanna touch either, but if they were attractive I wouldn't care.

lower than my shoulder sure. But my point still stands. If I don't pick either the aisle or the window and lean in the opposite direction I will come into contact with the person next to me.

The crux of the argument here is that you don't want people touching you.

Also not everyone can help their size. Just like there are people who can't gain weight no matter what, there are people who can't lose it either.

That's hardly the crux of the argument. While, in your situation, it could certainly be annoying, it would not necessarily cause further discomfort to someone already in an uncomfortable situation. Same for people who are somewhat overweight but not so much that they literally spill into another seat. You have admitted this by saying that you can lean to one side.

Your situation is largely incomparable to the issue that caused this discussion to arise in the first place (not one this board, in general), that being that people who are so fat that they take up more than one seat, effectively pushing the person/people next to them into a smaller space than a fucking airplane seat cannot reasonably resolve this issue by choosing a different seat and leaning to one side.

It's a somewhat difficult issue to quantify, in part due to extenuating circumstances as you've described, but the issue you have is not this issue. Not even close. Come back and talk to me when your shoulders grow three feet straight down and extend out when you lean to one side.

Yeah, if you think this extends to people who take up two seats on an airplane, I've got some snake oil to sell you. This line isn't a "get out of being fat at any weight" card. She has severe body problems where she has to be very careful what she eats or she can't digest it and will throw it up (including a lot of spices, and things like onion, garlic, tomato, etc). She also has a bad back and knee implants that prevent her from doing reasonable exercise. I actually saw her step off a curb once and bruised her ankle so bad that she had to go to the ER and the doctors were worried it was broken. She manages to be overweight, but even she is nowhere near the weight it would take to require two seats. I sat next to her on a plane without any discomfort. The amount of fat you need to require two plane seat is ludicrous.

To be fair, that's a bit...extreme.

But yeah, I've only met one person who I believe would need to starve themselves almost to death in order to lose weight. And that was due to a confluence of issues that I know for a fact don't exist in most people with this problem.

Fair enough. I'm willing to accept people can have mental conditions that make it extremely difficult and maybe in the most severe cases impossible for them to self-motivate/have enough self-control to lose weight on their own, but I won't be convinced there are any physical reasons.

With the exception of the less than 1% of people who habe an actual medical or thyroid problem that cant be handled due to meds also....

So yeah- unless you fit into that extremely NARROW category.

She's not huge. She's what someone would describe as 'chubby'. I also know that she has asthma and takes a prescription medication for it called ventolin which can increase weight gain, especially for someone with her other medical issues (or who is older). I wasn't specifically arguing against the general point being made, instead pointing out that even with people who literally can't lose weight, they aren't fucking blimps. Trying to tell me that someone who takes up two seats on an airplane can't help it will infuriate me more than most, because I know people who actually struggle with that kind of shit, and try to help it, and are nowhere near the weight one would have to be to take up two seats.

Ventolin doesn't increase weight that's bs. But there is a diff between "an (actual) bit of extra bodyfat" and being a total slob.

Also w asthma it depends on her triggers. If it's excercise endurance based increase your level of stamina increase your tolerance before s problem. I speak from experience before venotlin or proventil or even powdered alupent existed. Yes that's a long time.

I don't think it does so much as it helps prevents her from losing weight (which seems to be medically true, at least potentially), but at the same time she does that, she also throws up most foods if she isn't careful, and I saw her use a treadmill an hour a day every day for months without losing much weight, but also without gaining weight. She's practically functionally bulimic and still didn't lose more than 10 pounds when I was living with her. I believe her. But she might've been 70 pounds overweight at most. I think we can agree that excuse (can't lose weight) is ridiculous.
