Okay, it's only a two minute video, but the gist of it is basically just use Spotify. You can listen to your favorite songs there, but you can actually select them directly instead of waiting for them to come through the rotation again. They also have a "radio" functionality like Pandora if that's still what you want

This. I'm not 100% sure of everything a Pandora subscription offers over the free version but if it's just what's listed in the OP then Spotify is far more worth it imo. I've found numerous great songs that I've never heard before simply due to the Daily Mixes, Discover Weekly, and Release Radar, not to mention the radio feature.

Yeah that is all pandora pretty much offers. I switched to spotify last year when they introduced spotify family. For $5 more my wife and kids could have their own spotify (for lack of a better term). Plus being able to play any song when I like is nice.

Woah, spotify rocks. I was still using pandora lol.

This is way better. Also you can get 3 months for only $1 (havn't signed up yet but I put together a decent list (to start) and probably will soon.

Gotta keep adding to the list, but I have it on shuffle which rocks. Only songs I like from Tom petty, metallica, Ac DC, Aerosmith, Eagles, Beatles etc.

Better then my actual CDs because I don't get the songs I don't really like from artists.

Thanks guys.

Pandora is fine, I was just using it yesterday, but spotify lets you spend 10 minutes just picking your favorite songs, create a list, and bam, it'll only play songs you like.

Still have not heard an add, but honestly it's $1 for 3 months right now, so even if you only get 1 add every 15 minutes, I'll pay for it. Most easy/convienient method of listing to music yet.

Bet I can set itup on my cell phone as well (have not yet), and listen to it in my car etc.

Pretty much rocks (literally since that is the music I mainly listen to).

Don't get me wrong Pandora was great, but this is better.

Yeah, got my first comercial, so fast (Taco bell chicken chip), was like maybe 2 minutes.....out of 15 minutes or so of music (think it was at least 4 songs..so might have even been 20-30 minutes).

Working out great.

Still, might as well get the 99 cent deal.....although I barely noticed the comerical.

Spotify lets you create different playlists, so you can make ones for whatever your in the mood for (whenever you have the time/feel like it) and it has the same exact thing as pandora (creates radio stations by type of music/artist etc), so you can do what you use pandora for as well. It has less comercials (From what I have seen so far) even if you don't pay for it, and for $1 you get 3 months of no comercials.

It's normally $10 a month though, which seems a bit much for the super short comercials, I won't normally pay for it.

5$ a month if your a student and a few other deals though.

Most importantly though you can easily set up playlists in a few minutes, especially if you just want entire albums from specific artists, look up an album/artis, add all the songs, move on. Youcould have 100 songs on shuffle from 20 artists in less then 5 minutes.

Do that for different generes/music types and then choose whatever you wanna listen to on the fly.

Supposedly if you subscribe it'll also let you play your music on your cell phone without service (guess it downloads the songs to your phone?). Also it works on smart tvs etc (no need to have it running on your comp, and you can have the music coming out of your stereo speakers etc.

Seems like an upgrade in just about every way from Pandora.

Huh, I didn't know that Spotify was $10 a month. I was planning on subscribing to premium once I have a job again, although that doesn't sound that expensive to me. But I don't subscribe to any video streaming services, and I imagine if you have those (like most people do now), the costs start adding up.

The free version isn't too bad, though, at least with desktop. That has basically all the features you could want, except that ads play. The mobile free version kind of sucks though since you can't select specific songs. But I've added enough music to mine that even on desktop I usually just play it on shuffle anyway, so mobile is only an annoyance for me if I want to listen to a specific album or something.

Maybe it's changed since I last used it, but it's radio stations were horrible when I tried it out.! I was baffled by some of the songs it was recommending. Pandora is by far the most intelligent radio station creator I've found.

That's why Spotify isn't a replacement for Pandora for me.

Interesting. How is their selection? I listen to a range of rock, classical, J-Pop, video games, trance, etc and surprisingly Pandora has all those. Unfortunately depending on the genre, Pandora might find itself looping the same song eventually.

Well, I don't actually use the Spotify radio function that much, so you might be right, but I think the other stuff they have still makes it much more worthwhile. You can look up a playlist for basically anything and there will be tons of them, and then you can learn about new bands.

I don't know if it's different since I last used it, but I feel like Pandora just operated similar to traditional radio stations. Like for example if I put in Led Zeppelin, that station would start playing shit like the Eagles which I hate, two bands that aren't really sonically alike but fit under a traditional radio umbrella of "classic rock". I had similar experiences with hard rock/metal stations giving me shit like Korn. Most of the stuff if gave me is really mainstream, and I'm not saying that mainstream is necessarily bad, but it doesn't really help me find any new music. At best, it helped me discover that I liked some bands I had previously heard of but never really given a chance, but I think I've long since exhausted that usefulness.

I can't really speak to all those genres specifically but AFAIK their selection is way better than Pandora. There have been a few noticeable artists absent (I remember Taylor Swift made a big deal about not putting her music on there a while ago, though I'm not sure if that's since changed), but for the most part I think they have just about everything you could think of.

I liked Pandora, but they repeated songs so often on their stations, and even making multiple stations with different kinda of rock didn't really help.

It was still better then youtube (you can make a playlist there as well, but way more commercials that way), but it certainly had it's drawbacks.

Spotify though lets you basically look up all your favorite songs, just your favorite songs, and make playlists with them, as big or as small as you want, then play em on shuffle so it's random which song you listen to.

That is WAY better then random radio stations playing freaking Radar Love 10 times in an hour for example (honestly I don't hate the song but after like the 5th time I just turned off pandora the other day as it wasn't worth skpping it etc.).

So yeah, pandora was good, but random chance could really force a song down your throat sometimes. I never once heard bohemium rhapsody on Pandora for instance, although I did hear Riders on the Storm many times, never heard People are strange, but heard paint it black alot etc.

Some songs are there and played often (too often sometimes), others just never show up.

But on spotify all the songs I like are there, with an equal chance to be played. If I think of another song I miss or would like to hear (oh ...I should put in some bon jovi now that I think of it), I just need to add it and BAM it's there forever.

It rocks.

Now to add Shot down in a blaze of glory.

Btw, they also have set lists by music genre, for instance I did hard rock classics, and it showed a list with like 300 rocks songs (maybe more still going through it), you just scroll down and click on the songs you want added to your playlist (or you could just add them all I guess and listen from that sometime).

I'm just added everything I see on there, saw Dio, and Ozzy songs etc which I hadn't added yet, so it's really flushing my list out.

I'll have a good 200 or so rock songs that I really like on my playlist when I'm done today.

I'll probably make a classic and new age music list (enya etc for the new age stuff), just when I feel like something a bit different/calmer.

Really digging spotify.

Good deal!!

Still the comercials are SO short....I don't even notice em. May not even bother getting it at 99 cents to be honest.

Depends on the whole play songs on your cell phone without service (since it probably uses up my data pretty fast otherwise). Then again, I could just take my ipad with me and then play the music anywhere with wireless (pretty much anywhere).

Wouldn't work in my car though. Might be worth paying 99 cents just to be able to play my songs in the car (radio in my new car isn't that great).
