0:57-1:05, typically. Somewhere in that range. Haven't been able to get it sub 55 minutes yet.

The local marathon is coming up in September, and I really need to decide if I'm gonna do a full or half marathon. I know I can do a half marathon, but a full marathon may kill me.

You've reached your human limit. The body is made to only go so fast (just like eventually it will become impossible to beat the records for the 100 yard and 100 meter dash).

It probably is his limit. It's not a matter of "keeping at it". If that were true, Bolt would breaking his records all the time. OP has probably reached his limit, so no matter how much he keeps at it, he's probably not going to break the 55:00 mark. Heck, I would love to break the 10 second mark on the hundred yard dash but that just ain't gonna happen.

No. Bolt is at the human limit. TC is not.

TC can't get sub-57:00, to shave a full 2:00+ minutes to get to sub-55:00 in a 10k is very unlikely.

You have no idea what you're talking about with regards to running. This is like saying someone who runs a 10 minute mile will never be able to run an 8 minute mile because someone running near a 4 minute mile can't run a 2 minute mile.

Typically I put one foot in front of the other and repeat.

But seriously, I just do basic running 6 days a week. 4 of them are 5k runs, 2 of them are at least 10k. The 5k runs I just, well, run them. The 10k+ runs I do interval runs (either 10min run 2 min walk or 10 and 1).

I mean, my original 10k time was like 1:20... so I feel like I'm making some solid progress <_<

Progress has just slowed down a lot, as things tend to do when you get better at them.

Exactly and eventually, you reach a limit where you simply cannot go any faster no matter how hard you train.

Well you're wrong, but you're basically wrong about all things with regards to athletics, so I'm not going to try to explain to you any more.

They're the Caps, of course they lose in the playoffs. And an interesting note, each of the Penguins last four championship runs have gone through Washington... (1990-91, 92-94, 2008-9, 2015-16)

I'd recommend that for your 5k runs that you mix in some sprinting. For example, to start, for every 1k you run do 2-100m sprints. This will help your muscles develop for better speed.

Yeah, I don't think the Caps are as bad as people give them credit for. I think they were the second best team last year. They just played the Pens in the second round.

Nonsense, yes, your own body has a certain limit but 10k in 55 minutes is doable for practically everybody who trains regularly. Progress is just slower because your body is getting used to your routine. You need to start mixing up and perhaps use some other methods like weight lifting to increase your leg muscles without losing lung capacity.

The average time for 10k is around 45 -
50 minutes. 45 being runners who run marathons regularly and 50 being "amateurs."

High schoolers run 5k's(3.1miles) in less than 17mins. To say a grown adult can't even break 22.5-25mins is an absurd statement.

Yeah you're going to want to do interval training like what SunWuKung420 said. And the interval training needs to incorporate sprinting now.

This is just some stuff to look at.

You reailze that after your early twenties you start declining in what your peak speed should be right? Being a grown adult is useful for many things but breaking limits is not one of them.

I'm not surprised you maintain a defeatist attitude when it comes to limits.

I also want to point out that by your logic Ursain Bolt, 30, should be slower than high school students. ROFL!
