Board 8 > Board 8 Ranks the Gen 7 Pokemon - Submissions [Due June 3rd]

May 18th will mark 6 months since Pokemon Sun/Moon were released (also i'm done hosting uoty and PRBL isn't ready to go yet), which I'm pretty sure has given everybody here plenty of time to get familiar with the new and returning Pokemon, and so it's time do do what b8 does best - rank the Pokemon! This is the uh, 8th installment of this topic series, where up to 70 members of Board 8 have ranked each generation of Pokemon in full, getting an idea of who is most beloved and due to my elaborate series of spreadsheets, who their own tastes most fall in line with. it's a grand old time and i can't wait to get back to it!

In regards to Alolan Pokemon: I think ranking them separately in their own list would be boring, as there are only 18 of them. I think the results are probably more interesting with them included in the ranking, plus with them included I can easily remove them for a look at the list without them, while the opposite is not as simple. Therefore the 18 Alolan forms are included, for a list of Pokemon as follows:

This makes 105 altogether for a ranking on the larger side! Please try to use my spreadsheet as then I can confirm all names are spelled correctly which greatly reduces the amount of work i have to do to bring you your rankings. If you don't use my spreadsheet, remember to check that you have 105 Pokemon, that every Pokemon has a unique rank and that all 105 numbers are used. There's always one.

If you want to use a helpful picker to make your list, use this!

Just go to the 'options' tab and remove all the gens but 7 - then, to add Alolan forms as well, check the 'forms mode' tab. Turn on 'major only' - this will remove a lot of unnecessary shit, like extra Silvally colors.

This will still leave the following Pokemon in the list:

All four forms of Oricorio (keep your favorite)
Both forms of Wishiwashi (keep your favorite)
Both forms of Lycanroc (keep your favorite)
All new forms of Zygarde
Ash-Greninja
Pikachu with a hat (no, don't ask me how this qualifies as a 'major form', I don't fucking know ok)

Any time you see any of these, just select everything ELSE (even the stuff you don't like) and click pick. This will bury them at the bottom of the list and you won't see them again for a very, very long time, so you can then move on. Just make sure to leave one form of Oricorio, Wishiwashi, and Lycanroc alive. Probably the one you like most, if any.

Do we seriously have to rank the different forms for the main Gen VII Pokemon that have separate forms? I'm talking about stuff like the 4 Oricorios and the 2 Lycanrocs. In the past, we've never had to rank different forms, such as the Rotom forms (as an example).

Thank you for the correction. By the way, Minior appears twice in your spreadsheet and one of them should be removed. Minior is somewhat of a different case than Oricorio and Lycanroc since it has an in-battle form change.


Anyways, I really didn't want to rank the Oricorio forms separately because I think this is one of the few cases where the Pokemon as a whole (due to its interesting gimmick) would be ranked higher on my list than any of the individual forms.

Oh, forgot about Wishiwashi too. That's also a similar case to Minior (an in-battle form change).

Well I did the thingy (thanks Para!) but feel like I still want to rearrange things. I think by doing it in batches of 10 instead of 1v1 the whole way through that some things went wonky, but 1v1 the whole way through would've taken forever so I'm still okay with it.

If you plan to do that, you'll want to use "Gen VII" instead of "Gen 7" in the new topic title to be consistent with the previous lists using the roman numeral system when referring to each generation.

I'm going to try and do write-ups this time around. I did some early work on this a week ago when it seemed likely that Steiner was going to post this topic at some point in the near future. Currently, I have write-ups for 23 Pokemon out of 99 total Pokemon.

Everything pre-release was probably more like within a couple hours. The world will never shed their desires to be first.

I've been thinking about it and I think I would be lightly in favor of ranking the two Lycanrocs separately - they're pretty different Pokemon in all regards, except they're just sort of considered to be the same Pokemon for no special reason. They share moves learned and type but have different stats, abilities, and appearances, and it basically functions like a split evo line anyway. The four Oricorios aren't different enough and can transform into each other anyway so it really is the same Pokemon, but Lycanroc, yeah.

I get it, but we didn't separate Meowstic or Wormadam, and they're distinct in pretty much the same ways (I know no one likes or cares about Wormadam but still). Wormadam's even more distinct since they have different movesets, stats, and types. Meowstic doesn't have different stats, but still different moves and abilities. It's just Lycanroc has the bigger difference in appearances.

The pics that came out within 24 hours of their reveal were more likely to be of shitty quality as people try to rush to be the first to create a rule 34 pic.

The two Lycanrocs just kind of fail the "are these really the same Pokemon?" eye test for me in a way that the others don't

I've seen some rule 34 pictures of really high quality that were created within hours of their reveal, but it's more likely they are of low quality than the later pictures created more than 24 hours after their reveal.
