In fact what the hell, I will commit to running at least one out the gate.

EDDVs first ONE SHOT session

FRIDAY 4/21 10PM EST

PATHFINDER SOCIETY SCENARIO 6-10 The Wounded Wisp

The Synopsis -

As junior/aspiring members of the world-famous (or perhaps infamous) Pathfinder Society, you basically spend a lot of time hanging around the Grand Lodge looking for something to cut your teeth on. The Society is something akin to like the Royal Geographic Society -
a group of loosely associated ideologues, explorers, architects, profiteers, and academics gathered in the biggest city in the world to share their findings and pool their resources. One of the Venture-Captains who run the society, an old doddering man by the name of Drandle Dreng, offers just such a job for newer members that involves meeting him and running around town doing his errands - but surely it won't be that simple?

System: Pathfinder

Legal races: Core races plus Wayangs, Kitsune, Nagaji, Tengu and the 4 elemental races(Ifrit, Sylph, Undine, Oread)

Legal Classes: All classes are legal save for anti-paladin and the summoner (though unchained summoner is still legal)

Alignment: Any non-evil

Archetypes: Optional. this is much more complex so just ask me before you pick one.

Point buy20 points. Base stats must be between 7 and 18 before racial adjustments. Calculator found here:
http://webpages.charter.net/tedsarah/Pathfinder/utilities/pointBuyCalc.htm

Starting Gold: 150

Traits Any 2, only one of each type

If anyone wants help with chargen hit me up via PM either here or on discord.

I am in for this

here is what I have pitched to ed for his game

The mysterious agent known only as "Delta" is a half-orc from [Insert City Here]. He is a contract worker who is known as a problem solver. The reality is that he doesn't have much competence in combat or much else, but he is an excellent bullshitter. Not only does his ability to lie, intimidate, and coerce others help him succeed at tasks -- but it also helps him keep up a good reputation even when he fails at completing said tasks.

This guy is basically "your reputation precedes you" incarnate, to the point where his reputation in fact precedes his true capabilities.

It's hard to nail down an exact time at this moment. Maybe as soon as the 22 or 25, or 30. I've got my girlfriend's graduation in there along with continued preparation for a concert.

@Anagram @JeffreyRaze @SovietOmega @Lolo_Guru and anyone else interested, give me availability for those dates.

Just cause they are one shots doesn't mean you can't reuse characters.

You can just try your character in different settings with different parties.

Of course I have like 10 characters I created in 4e that I wanted and never got the chance to use so maybe I'm not the person who should be responding to you.

I think 5e did a really good job of streamlining things. It doesn't have the detail that PF and 3.5 have with all the little tidbits including feats and skills and such, and it doesn't have the detail that 4e has with combat.

It's simple, easy to pick up, and honestly runs really smoothly. Character creation in it is pretty easy, especially if you just roll personality traits/ideals/flaws according to the tables in the handbook, and just put together a little character without trying to give too much thought.

I'm a person who has made a campaign restart 3 times over 5 years because I like the character I made for it, but I also value the options that a one-shot provides. They're not necessarily for everyone, but I'd encourage people to give it a try. After all, you would only have to commit for one session to try it out ;)

Yeah, I used to have a bunch of builds in 4e while I was playing in Anagram's 4e campaign, but I badly burnt myself out on the system and really on character creation in general.

I have pregens and also the way im doing it is more a series of related one shots so you can reuse.

5e chargen is swifter but for PF I sort of agree with you which us why im doing it the way i am.

I threw together a sheet for Han's deal using an idea I had for a 5e campaign that was not to be.

https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1176563

Been doing a bit of tweaking here and there, but even if one considers all the variables one needs to, it is almost comically easy to spit out something in 5e compared to 4e. Especially since this is geared towards being a one-shot, so as long as the core stats and items are there, you don't have to fiddle much with a lot of the minor fluff that some of the races and classes give.

I just assumed average starting gold, paying mind to what the maximums would be. Although I suppose level 8 characters could be assumed some wealth such that higher cost stuff might be attainable. That would definitely cause me to rethink a thing or two.

How should we view money, Han, with regard to the purchase of weapons/armor/items, han?

Its a lot like 3.5 if you have experience with that - the melee classes have been given more stuff to make them more competitive.

If you want to be just effortlessly good and avoid most casting, Paladin and Cavalier are both basically idiot proof as is Slayer though its a bit different.

Power Attack is basically all you need to be a good melee fighter type. Everything else youre either building towards specific kinds of combat tricks - like cleave or Sunder or Tripping or else towards being good in specific situations with stuff like Blind Fight or else generally useful feats for your survival like Improved Initiative, Iron Will or Toughness.

Follow the pattern. Point cost is what the status bonus is. 16 gives you +3 to checks, so it costs 3

notice that the cost per point mirrors the mod (minimum cost 1). thus, a 16 should logically cost 3 more points from the 9 it takes for 15.

Your hit die plus con mod for level one, then the average roll (rounded up) for the hit die plus con for each level past that is how I've always done it. So 5 for a d8, 6 for a d10, etc.
