Actually... this is the worst Robot Master theme imo.

Well geez....

I by no means am a huge fan of this theme, I do like it but I don't think it's anything special, but that's pretty harsh especially given that Mega Man really does have some truly bad stage themes. Sure there aren't many I would consider truly bad, but they do exist and this isn't one of them.

For me Classic Mega Man themes should only be in 8-bit anyway.

Have you heard any of the themes from 7 and 8 converted into 8-bit btw? Most of them suck still but almost all of them are better than their 16-32 bit counterparts because they sound so much cleaner and more defined imo.

Interesting. All of those at least make sense for their stages so I'd be interested in a further breakdown of what you don't like about them exactly if you feel like enlightening me further.

Well I will say one major difference in the way we rank things is I didn't rank themes based on if they fit the stage and/or robot master. I ranked them purely on how much I liked them and how good/bad of a song I thought they were as a standalone.

How can you hate Centaur Man's theme so much, is it because of its slower pacing? I think its actually one of the better songs in the game. Is it the sets of triplets at the start of the song?

I just don't like the way it sounds. I'm not sure how I can describe it really. I mean, I do usually prefer faster paced songs but at the same time I don't dislike all slow songs. Though to be honest, I felt like Mega Man 6 has one of the weakest soundtracks of the original series. All of it's music has a particular style to it that I just didn't really care for. In fact, there is only 1 theme among them that I would say stands out as great, but at the same time Centaur Man's is the only one I would say isn't at least good.

Ya, I also disagree with that. MM6 had a pretty good soundtrack (its why ive brought it up a few times ITT tbh...the game itself is meh but its soundtrack is one of the better overall). The final fight vs Wily immediately comes to mind, and I actually think Centaur Man is one of the better songs too. A more laid back, slow paced song for the bright colors that 2/3rds of the level have.

Tomahawk Man is a great one too, very wild west sounding for obvious reasons. I liked Yamato Man a lot too and Blizzard Man.

The only major difference is that you value the themes overall much higher than I do. Honestly, I'd say Mega Man 6 has the 2nd weakest soundtrack of 1-9 (since I haven't played 10). And that's "easily" the 2nd weakest for me, I don't even have to think about it.

Of course keep in mind, when I say "soundtrack" I'm only talking of the actual Robot Master stage themes. I never did a ranking of the non RM themes.

Well that's the same thought process for me. I don't dislike the RM themes in Mega Man 6, outside of Centaur Man. In fact, I like all of the others, the only reason I'm saying it's the weakest set of themes is just because of how much more I like the other game's themes.

Well for me, the top 3 soundtracks are 2, 3 and 9. Those 3 are on a tier of their own for me. Slightly below that I'd put 5 and 7. Then 4 then 1, 6 and 8. Again, this is going strictly based on RM themes and none of the rest of the games music. In fact, in my top 15 RM themes the only 2 games that don't have an entry are 1 and 6.

bottom tier: 8, 10

I think due to the fact that 9 was a good game, people overrated the soundtrack a lot. The soundtrack was 9s weak point to me.

The best version of Junk Man's theme is the original. It might be the most Lufia-esque out of all three, but that just makes it one of the most nostalgic songs in this entire topic. Lufia may have been the second RPG I finished completely by myself; my mother was big into RPGs, so she played everything and we went through most of them together, but Lufia was something I went through on my own. It's not a good game, but it felt wonderful at the time. Lufia 1's soundtrack is one of the very few soundtracks that I instantly recognize, so... it's nice having something remind me of that, even if this isn't quite the same.

I'm burned out on talking about Google results, but in the unlikely event anyone cares, the main results are for junk removal services and a Wikipedia article about people who sell scrap for profit. Also some movie that looks terrible and I have no interest in reading about.


When you finally find info on Junk Man, there's not much there. He's just an ugly, Frankenstein's Monster-esque thing with yet another shield weapon. Easy stage, easy boss, boring weapon, boring design.

I've never tried ranking all the soundtracks. I'd have a hard time deciding how much a few bad songs should drag down the entire soundtracks score...


...maybe add the Elimination Pie score for each game's songs together & divide by the number of songs to find that game's average value? Eh. Probably too much work and doesn't factor in how I'd take a soundtrack with one great song over one with a bunch of average songs.

That's kinda like what I did. I ranked all of the RM themes, then added their scores up based on their placements, and then divided by the number of RM themes in that game.

Not a bad song at all. A bit repetitive--okay a lot repetitive--but it's definitely better than than the four Mega Man 1 songs I gave lower scores to. Which goes without saying, I guess. The song doesn't really make me think of anything about the stage: It's not Earth-y or "Moving Platforms Dropping You in Holes"-y, but it's alright.

I hate Guts Man's stage. I think those platforms gave me the hardest time of anything in the NES games. I guess it's nice that I at least remember the stage, but blech. Guts Man himself is forgettable; I don't care about the design or his powers and I'd honestly rather be stuck with Top Man's "crash into things and pray it does something" spin than Guts Man's "hope the designers placed a rock for you to use" arm. His name doesn't even make sense in English! You would think being "guy that throws rocks" he would be Rock Man, but no! Rock Man is the power-copying main character (who has nothing to do with rocks or rock music), while Guts Man is named for the Guts Pose invented by Japanese Boxer/Actor/Comedian Guts Ishimatsu.

...I swear Guts Man was named as such just to troll American audiences that couldn't possibly grasp the reference. Whatever. Somehow he, along with Cut Man, has the most appearances in the series. Guts Man is everywhere. I fail to see why the worst character in the original game keeps showing up, but he does, and that's got to count for something.

Really? Hmm, I listened to the other themes again just to be sure but I'm still liking the other 5 themes better so now I'm interested in why you think it's the worst of the original 6 themes.

I think Elec Man is the worst of the 6 but only slightly.

As far as Mega Man 1 themes go, they're all enjoyable themes, but I think I had them ranked like this...

Fire Man >> Cut Man >>> Bomb Man >= Ice Man >= Guts Man > Elec Man


Elec Man is the weakest for me, and then I feel like the next 3 are interchangeable as they're all about even. Then I just think Cut Man and Fire Man are much better than the other 4.

Mega Man 8 may have the weakest overall RM themes, but Grenade Man is absolutely top tier and should not even be lumped together with the rest of Mega Man 8.

Whoops, wrong Star Man. Too bad, I could use some David Bowie music as a break from all these 8-bit songs... listening to these for a few hours a day, every day, is starting to get to me ya know? Well, not like complaining will accomplish anything especially as A.I'm doing this voluntarily; B.I still want to do it; And C.No one will read this complaint until the work is finished anyway.

Music is a bit too high-pitched for my tastes. Star Man is a bit bard to find information on, Google assumes you want David Bowie, some movie, or the DC character. Or characters, perhaps, as I think Google just told me it's a legacy character? Don't think I've heard of them before, never read much DC outside the Death and Return of Superman arcs...

Oh, there's also Pro Wrestling (NES)'s Starman. ...not that I have anything to say on that end.


Once you find info on the right Star Man, you'll see there's not much there. Created for space exploration, blah blah blah. He doesn't even have a trivia page and I'm fairly certain every other Robot Master I've searched had at least one trivia. When you beat him you get the Star Crash and Super Arrow. While the Arrow is mainly used for transportation, it's also the weakness of one boss... the only transportation item that can be said about. So Star Man gave you two weapons. That's kinda interesting, I guess?

You still like MM5 more than MM8 though right? It isn't all that bad considering.

I dunno. I just never developed an appreciation for the tunes in MM8 like the rest.
