Bernie is the guy who ran on TAX THE ONE PERCENT DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM. Some hypocrites are far worse than others.

I really hope for the greater good they don't jam this through. As much as I'd like to see Republicans hang themselves and watch Dems sweep back into control over the next 4-6 years, I'd rather people, you know, not lose health coverage.

It's why its very important to reform our tax system. Every penny counts so we have to make sure we want all the rebates and reductions we have and get rid of the ones we dont want

it's effectively framing trump's taxes as the equivalent as the birther argument at worst, benghazi at best. neither's a good look for the dems.

What are you even talking about? You make zero sense. He gave over this tax return. It's old. It doesn't have any evidence of any ties to Russia because it's over ten years old. He didn't give over a more recent one and there's no reason to think that he will. So he's not willingly going to hand anything over. So I have no idea what point you're trying to make here.

Afaik it was also just a 1040, which wouldn't tell you where his money was coming from or anything like that.

Than it's even more useless and probably just to trick people because most discussion I've seen on this doesn't even realize it's over ten years old. They just take it at face value.

Dems believe that a look at Trump's taxes will reveal ties to Russia.

Trump (or someone in his inner circle) gifts two pages of a 12 year old tax return to an investigative reporter.

This tax return is well before any expectations of impropriety would have occurred.

Rachel Maddow, like all news anchors, is so desperate to get the "scoop" and be the first to reveal this earthshattering information, that she makes a big deal about revealing these tax documents.

The documents, being innocuous, do nothing to really damage Trump. This accomplishes two things: one, it damages the credibility of the Russia allegations. Even though these particular tax returns were never going to show anything THAT damning, the fact that they're real and show nothing makes people who don't really care THAT much think "oh, these returns were nothing so they must all be nothing."

Two, it gives Trump an out. Now if people demand his tax returns, he can claim "you'll find nothing, I already showed you those returns from 2005."

...imagine if someone goes all in here. They probably have a good hand or bluffed, right? So say Donald did this and rakes in the pot, then does what some cardplayers pull and reveals one of his two cards after that victory -- it's a 2. What was his other card? One card by itself here doesn't really matter -- you're not really doing anybody any favors by revealing the 2, you're just trolling.

It's a similar concept here. Politics ain't a game of cards here though; every President "showed their cards" for decades now and it still matters that Donald is hiding his cards. It threatens us to see he won't reveal his tax returns, so let's not act like one little part of a rather-old return is what people were asking for. They want him to have the same full scrutiny every other President has had and that Donald himself has insulted other candidates about.

It's not the same as the birther issue either since Donald's not judged here because of his color but his career, and also Obama doesn't get a new birth certificate on his desk every year. Donald also never answered for his sins regarding the birther issue, so he doesn't get any sympathy from me if taxes continue to hound him.

Donald's being a real b**** and it's almost funny his fans won't help question him about his taxes for all of our sakes. Almost.

personally the point i'm making is that he's effectively put the taxes into a situation of either birther or benghazi. either where you'll endlessly ask for data and still refuse even after nothing unusual is seen or you'll endlessly ask for data and even if a few things that get revealed are a bit odd they don't indicate any major wrongdoing and it looks like a witch hunt that's even worse than anything that could have been.

that's how this situation looks right now.
trump wasn't willing to part with any part of his taxes before. if you believe that he's the one who did it (since it's a client copy), then your conclusion is that the above dichotomy was intended and it works, much to your annoyance. it also makes the media look like jokers who are definitely out to get him since... they just released info about some 10 year old taxes (really, just a tax form) that had very little information about it and tells very few stories. so all around, he wins: media punked themselves out, the situation is massively deflated, people look like conspiracy theorists of varying degrees. the 4D chess is real.

if you believe it's someone else who did it that had access to his client copy, then the conclusion is that he never wants to release anything related. not 10 years ago, not 1 year ago. this would be consistent but, well, consistency ain't the strong suit here. it just means somebody else either did the above on purpose or he fell ass backwards into something beneficial again.
