Yes, that one. I figured out you could flip the thing over, which was cool that it worked but it was still a pain to control.

That maze was terrible. The platform gets totally out of sync with your controller very fast and you have to exit to reset it. Shoddy programming. Also when you go to grab the chest there's no easy way to get back depending on what angle the platform was set at. I had to do this hack jump and float thing.

Also it's shocking how much better the game is in the towns and dungeons. I haven't killed a random open world enemy in like 8 hours of gameplay and it's amazing.

It looks like there's a lottt of towns and encampment so my wish for more charm will be granted. It only makes the soulless intro all the more baffling.

you can set the platform to make it easier to get back

if you set it wrong it's your fault not the games!

and i was very patient and found the controller pretty reliable. not amazing, but i won't complain about not getting everything for free.

It's because the gyro of the controller is defined in 3-dimensional euler rotations instead of 4-dimensional quaternions so rounding errors accumulate exponentially. That's why the controls are fine at first but quickly get messed up and desynced.

I've been exploring mostly the east side of the map. Sixteen shrines done (all stamina upgrades), but I haven't done much with regards to actual questing. I might just sprint to Hyrule Castle since people who do that early seem to be having fun with it.

Also, I saw what looked to be the outline of an enormous guardian moving atop Death Mountain. What the hell...

Talked to Impa and made my way to Hateno this morning after work.

Did a bunch of exploring on the way and used all my open amiibo, which are all the SSB Zelda ones.

Since I got Sheik's mask from Sheik's amiibo I immediately bought the Sheikah armor and now I'm just Sheik.

That's what I did and it was fun sneaking around the castle and having to kill stuff perfectly cuz everything OHKOs (bring fairies to make things more bearable). Though I wonder if it's ruining things to do the endgame so early like that.

Also I wonder if all dungeons are like that. It felt like a real castle that had real places and a real layout. Basically, not like a Zelda dungeon at all. No puzzles, just a place to explore. Reminded me of the Snowpeak mansion, one of my fav dungeons ever. Very Dark Souls 3 feeling too. I guess it would be cool if all dungeons are like that, but it would suck to not have any puzzles. Snowpeak was awesome because it was the one dungeon like that.

So I just got to the first stable. Went to catch a horse. Figured "There's no way these guardians will come to life this close to the stable"

I hopped on a blue horse I liked. Suddenly, I heard the guardian noise and saw the red line. I froze. Horse bucked me off. I quickly dashed to the side. The horse ran straight ahead

Horse got blown the f*** up

What the hell, guardian

I will avenge this horse

I'm not so sure if you can get ruin things by doing endgame earlier since whatever overpowered gear you get isn't gonna last your forever

BotW's equipment durability basically keeps you "leveled" to whatever area you're in as far as I can say... sans hearts/stam

It will last me a long time since I'm just not gonna fight stuff. Maybe if there's a required boss.

In which case it would doubly ruin it since I use the OP stuff on weak bosses, and then I don't have the unique OP end game equipment anymore for the end game (though I guess the respawning end-game stuff is adequate)

So just played for a couple of hours. Did the Magnet, Bomb, and Stasis trials.

It took me a while to figure out how to get to the side for Stasis. I saw where it was, I knew I had to climb up I just didnt know from WHERE. Figuring out I had to cut the trees and cross made me feel really clever.

I am assuming I need some warmer clothes to get to the last area.The journal said I need spicy peppers and raw meat. I have the peppers but dont know where to get the meat from. I have not done much exploring.

Those Guardians really kicked my ass, I kept thinking I had to kill them, didnt realize it was a pseudo stealth portion

After beating it there's some bird man that gives you a glider challenge, costs 20 rupees, if you clear 30 rings you get 100... so profit 80. If you clear 20 you at least get your 20 rupees back.

8 hours in, no cities/towns/dungeons yet.
I beat some large beast boss (I think, it had a name and health bar) though and a flying magic dude (not a boss just kinda tough)

I also think I found a way to get off that starting area without dying before you should, but i dont know if at the beginning it's extra raised or not.

When I saw lightning for the first time, i really like this game.

Zelda's VA seems a bit off so far, but I remember it being good in the trailer, so maybe I just need to let it grow on me.

One side effect of the voice acting, is that Link's muteness makes some of the cutscenes a bit awkward. Everyone's talking about Link around Link and he's just silently plodding along ignoring them. Given how much backstory this Link has and that you can't even name him, they should have just bit the bullet and given him a VA, even if he only talks sporadically.

Well, it sorta has to be that way. It wouldn't be open world if you were barred from completing things because you lacked a power. So any powers after the first part would have to be superfluous.

And you do get new powers. Well, I've got at least one so far, in the form of an armour ability, though it's just a convenience power. Not sure if there are any areas that you can't get to without it.

It really really doesn't. Literally the previous Zelda had an absolutely brilliant solution to this. Not to mention other open worlds like GTA and AC which use several methods for gating and its totally fine. This is what I mean when I say this game hasn't learned a thing from other open world, it just takes the inelegant easy design "solution".

Also I don't think I have actually used any of the powers for a mandatory thing. They are just convenience things like climbing on ice blocks or metal items. Even in Hyrule Castle I think you can explore every single part of it without using a single power (though there are nice shortcuts if you do). So really the open world has nothing to do with it. They just ran out of time designing things to use powers on (except shrine puzzles).

I would actually complain that it sucks that there's little reason to use powers in the open world, since that was my main reason I hated TP, but it's kinda okay in this game. You do use a lot of items, just not the powers. Which is lame since the powers are really cool, especially stop time which is the most useless, but it still feels wayyy better than TP.

I don't get how anyone can look at this game or its development and say they didn't have enough time.

Anyway, you get all the things you need to explore straight away. You can also get additional, optional abilities and items, some of which are required for certain side quests. You get everything you need to finish the game right away because the whole point is to be able to do anything in any order at any time. The other stuff is still there if you want it.
