Yooka-Laylee (PC)

What a thoroughly disappointing game. I'll admit, I haven't played Banjo-Kazooie in fifteen years, but I remember loving it. YL had almost none of the BK magic, and it replaced all that fun with frustration. Levels were all poorly designed, usually just stringing together challenge sections. The camera was horrendous. The final boss had, like, ten stages and each of them was annoying. What a letdown.

Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh
It was pretty broken no matter how we tweaked the setup (A highlight was frequent crashes during the last puzzle) but it's a pretty solid game for an old FMV point-and-click. Even if some of the puzzle solutions were crazier than the psychological horror.

Loved it. But, I will say I got frustrated with some portions consider it has aged and coming from a N64 games the camera and controls are somewhat wonky.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days.

I thought it was a bit underrated overall, although the gameplay did get tedious towards the end. The story was absolutely wonderful, though (especially considering its entire existence basically hinges on "okay, let's explain more of what the hell was going on in Kingdom Hearts II now").

The Witcher (PC)

I've been at this for weeks now. So glad its over! The story was very intriguing but I detested everything else: the shitty battle system, the backtracking, the triggered quests, and the some of the choices drove me insane.

I'll start on the sequel soon.

Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale (3DS)

It's decent, but simple. Kind of overly long in the middle. Farming mechanics aren't deep, but it might scratch an itch if you really want to play a new farming game and have nothing else. Glad I got it on sale.

Tales from the Borderlands (PC)

Well, that was immensely entertaining. Easily the best Telltale game I've played so far, and it more than did justice to the Borderlands universe. Fiona was also a great character!

Anyway, we're nearing the end of the topic so I'm going to go through and add things to the doc again for anyone who doesn't do it themselves.

</reality> (PC)

I was wary going in, but this visual novel actually wasn't bad. I related with the main characters and overall theme a lot. The choices also never felt restrictive, and I was able to guide everyone to exactly the end I envisioned for them. I can't recommend it too highly, especially not over truly great VNs I've played recently like Highway Blossoms, The House in Fata Morgana, or even Steins;Gate, but I don't regret my time with it. Sometimes buying random indie games on Steam pays off! And other times it leads to absolute junk like Punch Club but oh well, this is the life I chose.

persona 5 was fun. i think i've discovered that 3 is the maximum number of times i can whole-heartedly enjoy an iterative formula

persona 3, 4, and 5 were all great, but i don't particularly mind if it takes another 9 years for the next to come out

Life is Strange (PC)

I put this off even longer than the Witcher because of the deliberately slow pacing. I think the game would've benefit itself to have only 3 episodes instead of 5. The first 2 parts are only boring until the eventual twist in which you are inspired to revisit them for signs of foreshadowing and symbolism. All in all, while the ending was expected, the tone shift from slice of life to darker and edgier was sort of refreshing. I would compare it to Gone Home, which I also loved.

I also beat:

Sound of Drop -fall into poison- (PC)

It was a spooky visual novel. It was alright, but a lot of sentences were really awkwardly translated. I'm also nowhere near as afraid of aquariums as the game assumed I was so a lot of the horror fell flat.

It pulled the ol' "Start the game over due to a mistake" on me! But I got through it. I've played worse, for something unknown.

Tonight:
Injustice: Gods Among US (PS4)
Replayed story mode. It actually seems pretty fun, honestly. Wasn't liking it at first, but that's just STAR Labs being annoying.
