Joe Johnson's usage rate was much, much, much lower in Phoenix (19.0%) than even his lowest year in Atlanta (24.6%).

Phoenix Johnson was much different than Atlanta Johnson. Phoenix JJ never averaged more than 14 shots per 36 minutes, whereas Atlanta JJ never averaged less that 15 shots per 36 (including 5 seasons of at least 16 shots per 36).

If their plan is to make Nash another spot-up shooter to Kobe's ball domination, it's not going to work. Plain and simple, Kobe is going to have to defer more and have his usage rate go down. If he doesn't, if he still needs to dominate the ball like crazy then Lakers are another 2nd round exit.

Kobe Jellybean Bryant is a smart man; he didn't call Nash and beg him to come to L.A without realizing that it would hinder his shots and stats. He knows firsthand how Nash works.

Kobe wants ring #6 more than deaf people want ears. He's obsessed with it. Ring #6 means he's equal to Jordan in his mind. He would kill every Lakers fan at Staples Center for that ring. That's how I know this is going to work. This isn't 2004 Kobe who NEEDED the shine and needed to win a title while also being the best player(funny enough, he might the greatest Western Conference Finals player ever. Go look at his stats from those Shaq Years. That dude carried the Lakers for big stretches.)


The biggest question here is whether Mike Brown can make it work. His scheme is based around long, drawn out isolation possessions and wing screens to limit opposing team's possessions and improve defense. NONE OF THAT works with Steve Nash.

I'm not saying it's a ball sharing issue. I'm saying the skills don't compliment. obviously they're better with Nash than without him. but they're kind of going to plug square pegs into round holes. you're talking about Nash getting open shots as if he's a stand still shooter, or about Kobe's willingness to share the ball. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about their strengths playing together.

they'll be good, but I wish I could see Nash in a system that benefits his skills. we'll see.

Not really sure that I want them to get either Scola or Brand. I don't really know if they will continue to be a defensive oriented team like they have been under Carlise given their roster, but if so, maybe Scola, even though he would be there for 3 years. Injuries are never an issue for him and I have a feeling that the Mavs wouldn't have to post as much on the waiver wire to obtain his services

If they can get Brand for 2.1 mil, I wonder what it will take for Scola then, assuming that there aren't any differences if a player has one year or multiple years remaining on their contract. Regardless, I hope that they go re-sign West. He is more of a priority despite needing more frontcourt help. I just felt like he really fit in with the Mavs

I think everything NY did makes sense, aside from lying about bringing Lin back. Felton can play pick n pop, and for the 30 or so games Amare will play next season, that's gonna be huge.

I was certainly not expecting Mayo to sign with the Mavs. I was really hoping that they would re-sign West. Though that remains a possibility, I doubt it since they are really thin on forwards. I wonder if a trade is in the works with one or some of their guards.

If you want about 1/3 of the player and potential, sure. Granted Lin is technically "untested" and Felton had one good season in NY, but he was completely awful in Portland. Not to mention the fact Lin is marketable... Felton is... yeah, no. Rockets will easily make their money back, they have an Asian player to sell jerseys to Asian people who still like the Rockets because of Yao Ming.

This just seems like the typical boneheaded NY move to me, and effectively kills any desire I had watching the Knicks play (which I did enjoy while Lin was on the court, even cheering for them until Melo came back and screwed up the rhythm).

i only wish we could have gotten something for lin while his value was through the roof

i don't think he is really as good as he played during linsanity. he looked like a third grader against miami

i think he puts up something like 16 and 7 this season. solid numbers, but not irreplaceable. the knicks need more of a distributor who can hit open 3s at the point anyway, which is what kidd was gonna be...who knows what's up with him now
