Ok

So Dwight Howard demand a trade to your team

And you respond to that by trading all of your players for the highest paid guy in the league

Thus giving you no trade pieces to get Howard, as well as no money to sign him long term

Good plan

Here's what happened:

1.Dwight Howard is an idiot and resigns for ONE YEAR because again he's an idiot
2.Because of this, the Nets get rid of the first rounders they had to get Gerald Wallace to convince Williams to stay.
3.Because of this they have nothing to give to the Magic
4.So they get Joe Johnson instead and hope it keeps Deron Williams around.

basically dwight howard is dumb

Reminder: The Nets traded their 1st round pick (top 3 protected) for 16 games of Gerald Wallace because there were only three players they thought would be great. One of those three was Harrison Barnes, who would then be available at the pick they gave up.

Also Joe Johnson Age 35 Year 2015 Salary $24,894,863

Terry can play PG as well. Good move by the Celtics.

This isn't about Salaries or skills, the Brooklyn Nets need to SELL TICKETS; New stadium, big name owner, big names attached.

Deron Williams
Joe Johnson
Dwight Howard
8 D-Leaguers will sell tickets and get them the 3 seed in the playoffs.

didn't know that about jet. that certainly changes how i view things, given how haphazard those lineups with bradley or dooling 'running point' tended to go

i think we could have used more bradley/allen back-courts to test the waters, but the thought of both jet and ray running the second unit is pretty amazing. even without ray, i think rondo/avery/jet makes a great backcourt.

now to fill out the frontcourt....

Nets still have assets if they want to trade for Howard. They have to give up a lot of future first rounders, recent draft picks, and get some sign-and-trade deals to happen, but it is very doable.

As a Mavs fan, I am kind of concerned at this point. If they don't sign Deron, which I am thinking won't be the case, I hope that they don't overpay a bunch of people out of panic. Management has been very good since Cuban took over, so it's unlikely that will happen, but it's still a possibility.

I'm sure it's Reggie Evans Salary. Or, you know, they'll need some actual NBA players after they traded 5 players for Joe Johnson and another 3 for Dwight Howard.

Either way, if the Nets pull this off, we'll have 7 "major" franchises in the NBA

Brooklyn
New York
Dallas
Chicago
Miami
L.A
Boston

Major franchise doesn't mean "winning franchise". If that was the case San Antonio is a more egregious oversight than OKC.

Major Franchises mean teams with big enough markets to sustain championships in the NBA. The Knicks may not win them, but they have the salary and room to do so.

Those 7 teams CAN contend for a title every single year. People want to come to Boston, they have a winning tradition and amazing fans. Say what you want about Boston fans but they're loyal to their teams all day.

No one wants to go to Toronto. Ever. It just doesn't have any appeal.

boston fans are awesome and everyone who actually comes to boston appears to love it. but it has difficulty attracting FAs because 1. it is cold 2. it's got a reputation for being racist 3. it's not one of the biggest markets (smallest of all the ones you listed, plus smaller than toronto, atlanta, and some others)...

EVen the Lakers had a down point in the 90s. I blame it more for basketball dying in the mid 90s for some reason.

What's sad is that Detroit can no longer be called a "Major Franchse". It really is sad to see that team fall so fast.

Man I had a lot of fun following the NBA Draft

Are there any NBA games where you can build with the draft? Like say I took over some really bad team and traded for a lot of first rounders in consecutive years and then downloaded the draft classes. Is there anything like that for either of the two big consoles or should I look for a Football Manager-esque game on PC for that?

What's sad is that Detroit can no longer be called a "Major Franchse". It really is sad to see that team fall so fast.

It can be a major franchise rather easily.

It begins with firing Joe Dumars and getting someone in there that stops making draft picks and signings based on "gut instincts" and starts applying an actual statistical analysis. Less Austin Dayes and more Ty Lawsons. Less Brandon Knights and more Kenneth Farieds.

1.I like Austin Daye, just not on the Pistons.
2.I like Brandon Knight...just not how they were using him.

Your team is needs to focus itself around what Greg Monroe does best: Rebound, Hustle, Interior Defense. Think the Chicago Bulls with Rose. Just a bunch of tough, rebounding, long players.

Getting Drummond is either the steal of the draft and a great turn of events(A lenghty center who can protect Monroe and provide a shot blocking presence) or another 3 years of wasted potential because he's all athleticism and no actual basketball knowledge.

Detroit needs to cut loose every tie from the past and just be the youngest team in the league with Knight/Drummond/Monroe at its core.

I don't like Austin Daye at all, although he is better than last season (can't be worse, really). Ty Lawson was a great PG prospect that we passed on when we could have really used a PG.

I don't like Brandon Knight because he is not a PG at all, and I wanted Kenneth Faried if Bismack Biyombo was off the board. Lo and behold, Faried has a better season rookie season than Greg Monroe's rookie year, and I continue to bash my head against the wall. Knight meanwhile produces with a bad TS%, bad assist-to-turnover ratio (Kemba Walker was better than him), and a bad steal rate.

The problem is that we don't draft players that rebound. Drummond was a good offensive rebounder and a terrible defensive one. We draft length, but it's largely useless.

It's frustrating to see the guys you want to draft/keep go out and be good while you're stuck with crap. Prince averaged more shot attempts than points last year, and we still have three years left on his s***ty team that no one is going to take.

I watch productive players get passed over for "potential" year after year with our team and I just want to tear my hair out. You don't need to be the youngest team in the league, you need to start finding/creating value and not buying it. That's what's going to save Detroit.

You and I both wanted Faried last year, we discussed it at length. I was praying the Lakers moved up and took him. An aggressive, high motor guy who crashes the glass and gives 100% every play.

It's why I want Bynum for Howard to happen: give me the guy who brings it every single night over the guy with a little more upside who takes games(series) off.

It's why I'm praying we don't lose Jordan Hill. Guys like that are so damn valuable in a league that values rebounding but has so few people who can do it.

I think Brandon Knight is a good player but the team you had around him wasn't capitalizing on his skillset. That guy is Drive and Dish, Dribble Penetration all day.

But honestly I think we can just say the words "Charlie Villenueva Ben Gordon" and move on.

Or "Dumars lost his damn mind in 2008 and hasn't got it back since."

Trade the highly efficient PG for the highly inefficient SG.
Trade away two productive role players (one of which spent the last three years outplaying our $25 million a year SG combo in Gordon and Hamilton) for nothing.
Sign two average players for huge contracts, watch as one falls apart and the other gets fatter.
I could go on.

And what exactly indicates that Knight is a good player? There's nothing other than "potential" that magical word used to describe crap players that are young enough where people think they'll stop being crap. His efficiency is below average, he did a lousy job getting to the line (2.3 FTAs per 36 minute) had an offensive rating on 97 and a defensive rating of 109 (worst on the team), only 0.8 steals per 36, 1.44 assist to turnover ratio.

Knight looked lousy last year, and it's largely in-line with his year at Kentucky (only thing different is that he had more FTAs per game in college).

I don't like Knight one bit. He's another combo guard the Pistons want to force to play PG, and it's going to work just as well as it's worked the last few times. F*** this s***.

He's far more athletic and skilled then your last 2 combo guards.

Honestly, you didn't have a team around him that could let his abilities shine. You had a team full of isolation players and Greg Monroe. No real identity.

Knight/Monroe Pick and Rolls/Pops should be happening at an ungodly rate. Greg Monroe is so damn talented. You guys just need to fit pieces around him.
