Rules: - Rate from 0.1 to 10 (one decimal places is fine, more than that and I'll round for you). I'd prefer if 5 were an average rather than 7. - Unless a specific version is stated, rate the best version that you have played on games released on multiple platforms - You may vote for any games you want that have been rated before at any time. You may also change your vote at any time. - No alts, no joke voting, no purposeful downvoting - you all know this. - Please only vote if you've played enough of the game to be able to rate it. - You may nominate as many games as you want on any given day. Multiple noms of the same game aren't necessary. Spreadsheet with prior games/ratings: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Ap-Cxjhwem1PdFR5Wk1NUkhDX3NmM3NIU1hVaFFZY2c&hl=en_US#gid=0
Mostly for Mercenaries. I'd probably give the main game a 5.5 or so. Can't think of many games where I enjoyed a mini game more than the rest of the package, but this is definitely one of them.
Pretty smack-bang in the middle, because there are a variety of things good and bad about it. I have a hard time siding either way. The good would be Mercenaries, Lost in Nightmares, the presentation, and the core game from RE4 still being awesome. The bad would be it being RE4 but less so with worse mechanics, the entire plot, the length, the shift to standard third person shooting, and most importantly, the lack of scares and atmosphere.
The core mechanics are solid, which makes it fun, but it really leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Also, co-op is both a blessing and a curse. It is quite fun, but it ruins the single player.

I actually had to take time to think about this - Its a completely different beast whether you play it single player or multiplayer, as anyone will tell you. I've played through this game countless times, and had a blast every time, but always with a friend. Was my enjoyment the game itself, or was it hanging out with a friend?
Decided I didn't care, if the game spurned that much enjoyment out of me its a good game in my book. Who cares if single player sucks
8/10

Indeed, the shift to standard third-person shooting is totally RE5's fault, nevermind that it happened in RE4.

RE4 is not a standard third person shooter. RE4 did invent the formula, but did not forget the series' survival horror roots. It incorporated this into the mechanics. RE5 went full Gears of War on us.

If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person? [HERO'S PLUNGE] http://img.imgcake.com/finegifdy.gif
This topic makes me realize that, man, nostalgia is a powerful thing.
On Resident Evil 5 -> "God, the AI is so stupid! Why am I required to have a second player to fully enjoy the game?!"
On Secret of Mana -> "Why are people complaining about the singe-player? The only correct way to play is with two players, obviously! Can't blame the game because you have no friends!"
Oh, and just to be clear, I'm not lumping anyone on this topic specifically into the above characterization. But really now, who hasn't heard both of those sentiments time and time again? Quite the double standard!

There are people praising Resident Evil 5 for being a good multiplayer game/people who gave SoM a poor score based off the single player, though. Board 8 isn't that much of a hive mind, you know.

But whatever. 9/10
Well the main YouTube user I watch LPs from never played Secret of Mana until the late 2000s and never experienced the multiplayer and its a top 30 game for him anyway.
The other main YouTube user I watch LPs from considers it his favorite game of all time and he sucks at multiplayer games.
This has all painted the image that Secret of Mana is not a multiplayer-focused game, while RE5 is.
