Christ how are you supposed to deal with a unique pack of phasebeasts if they've got nasty melee traits on them.

Like I can't kite them cause they teleport right on me. Can't get far enough that they don't just teleport after me. They just keep teleporting onto me and killing me.

I usually have to resort to spawn rushing them and whittling them down before they wreck me. I really feel they could make the game better if the limit some of the ludicrous combinations you can get on Hell and Inferno with elites.

High level rubies. Though Shine already gave me a square one for free that improved my DPS by like 20%, so I think I'm good for now. I guess I could upgrade some of the triangle topazes in my equipment, but that's not too important. I guess I mostly want to sell all the gems in my stash more than anything. I just love selling/buying gems... it's like the stock market.

COWARD'S WAY OUT. I'd only do this in HC if I can at all avoid it.

And honestly probably the bigger problem was phasebeasts themselves more than the attributes they had, though jailer certainly does not help.

I changed back to mirror image though hopefully that helps this

My worst is molten anything.
I don't think I've ever fought a molten without dying. I think I might have survived one at one point, but I'm not sure.
Shielding is terrible also, but I've only seen that recently in Nightmare.

You actually can't reset the zone to get different mobs once you get to 60, which is when you deal with the most difficult combinations anyways. Well, you can, but you really don't want to. Whenever you kill an elite or group of champions at level 60, you get a stack of Nephalems Valor, which gives you 15% magic and gold find. Stacks up to 5. You lose it if you leave the game, so you really don't want to do that.

My question is whether or not Archon even has a realistic position in a high level wizard's kit, realistically?


Not being able to teleport (unless I rune for it) or pushback or diamond skin has major drawbacks. I would need serious amounts of "life gain % on hit" stacked to even come close to replacing the usefulness of everything I feel like I'm missing as an Archon.

TBH half the time (because I always have it runed for TP) I end up using it as a 2nd TP in a clutch moment.

Nah. it persists through death. Only way for it to expire is to leave the game, finish the act, or for its 30 minute duration to run out before you kill another elite/ champion pack to refresh it.

You can lose it by changing your skill setup too right? As I recall that was the whole point of the buff.

And I dunno. Depends how hard health scales. In NM where I am now Archon is still plenty useful because I just obliterate enemies so fast that I get enough red orbs to keep me going, even losing stuff like diamond skin.

Might help that I use energy armor + galvanizing ward too.

Oh yeah, I forgot that changing skills loses the buff. Man is that kinda annoying. Sometimes I run into a pack of elites that are so difficult but would be so much easier if I had just one different skill. >:|

Nightmare beated. Act 4 was actually relatively painless, and I beat the final boss in one try unlike normal where it took me two.

Shame that Azmodan is still a pushover.

I didn't change my skills at all, so...

Electrocute - Surge of Power
Meteor - Meteor Shower (this skill is so fun)
Diamond Skin - Enduring Skin
Hydra - Venom Hydra
Energy Armor - Energy Tap
Archon - Teleport (which I didn't use at all for him but oh well)

With prodigy, galvanizing ward, and astral presence as my passives.

Strategy was to just constantly be running away from him and dropping Meteor Shower/Hydra on him, and diamond skin whenever he teleported onto me. I was never even at risk of dying, sadly.

I think part of the reason A4 was so much easier than A3 was I found a mace that upped my damage by 500 and only dropped my hp 100 so my damage went way up.

Electrocute only loses you one arcane power and does a lot better damage overall to groups. (80%*3 vs 110%*1)

Also because it's more in theme. Azula is fond of throwing lightning from time to time.

I don't actually know how prodigy works exactly though. I just know I can drop a lot of meteors with this build which is enough to make me happy. I need to look into that cause if it did I'd swap to the 6 arc electrocute instead.

Azula? Niiiiice name! ^_^

But still electrocute deals 80% of weapon damage and generates 1 AP per enemy hit. (Against a single boss this is 1)

Magic Missile deals deals 110% of weapon damage and generates 4.

So its really a difference of 3 AP and a 37% increase on your primary attack damage >_>



Also I''ve finally been looking at the numbers on spell effects (since I have nothing else to do) and saw this:

"Arcane Destruction

An explosion erupts around you when you transform, causing 450% weapon damage as Arcane to all enemies within 15 yards."

I might just stop running teleport Archon to have the super boom. I didn't realize it did so much when you transformed. My question is whether or not enemies killed by the boom count towards the +1 seconD on archon form.


So yeah I'm going to continue mathcrafting for awhile hoping my account is ready soon ^__^

That would be 787% weapon damage in an AoE.

Even more if "glass cannon" is multiplicative and not additive.

Well true but most major bosses summon minions so it's not like you never get your 3 hits in.

Also it''s rare for me to use my signature spell on a major boss anyway too busy running or dropping meteors/hydras. Which means I could probably turn prodigy off but eh too much effort considering most of them outside of Belial aren't too bad.

And for non major boss situations electrocute is def better I think.

Right, anything with Adds it makes sense to run Electrocute, but when you're going into a non add boss you have time to switch it up before it starts.


What other passives do you run? I assume Astral Presence because that thing seems necessary in every kit. And Evocation?

I am totally running through Hell with a "press Archon Form to explode everything around me when necessary" kit.


From the looks of things I should be able to do the following:

Starting with base damage 100...

1) Use Glass cannon. (Base *1.15 = 115)

2) Activate Energy Weapon with Force Weapon Rune. (Adds 30% to the 115% = 149.5)

3) Activate Faimilar with Sparkflint Rune. (Adds 12% to the 115% at the same time as EW. = 163.3)

3.5) get your Arcane Dynamo stacks to 4 out of 5.

4) Activate Slow Time with Time Warp Rune. (for a 20% amplify later)

5) Activate Arcane Torrent with Arcane Disruption Rune. (for a 15% amplify later)

6) Hit with Shock Pulse with the Fire Bolts rune. (To charge Arcane Dynamo and inflict Conflagration)

7) Activate Archon Form (Deals 450% of 163.3 = 734.85 of your orignal base damage being dealt)

8-A) THEN that damage is separately increased by 75%, 10%, 15% and 20% from Dynamo, Conflagration, Arcane Disruption and Time Warp.

This would add 551.1375 and 73.485 and 110.2275 and 146.97 bringing the total damage up to 1616.67% of the original base damage.

8-B) OR the damage increases apply on top of each other. I'm pretty sure they don't, but if they do it would bring the total to 1952.129%



I can't be sure if the 4 damage amps get added side by side or on top of each other, at least not until I test doing a stable amount of damage both with and without the amps, but it's still either 1616% of base damage or 1952% of base damage in a single shot. In a 15 yard AoE.

Things are going to literally disappear when I press the Archon button. Just need to make sure to gear every possible item I can with +base damage or whatever as well. I can't wait to try this.


To sum up:

Left Click = Shock Pulse (Fire Bolts)
Right Click = Arcane Torrent (Arcane Disruption)

1 = Energy Weapon (Force Weapon)
2 = Familiar (Sparkflint)
3 = Slow Time (Time Warp)
4 = Archon (Arcane Disruption)

Passives = Glass Cannon, Conflagration, Arcane Dynamo

Edit: But the irony is that since I only lost a handful of gems and 300k gold if I had just ignored the fact that I lost anything and spent the entire night playing anyways I'd end up further ahead than when my account gets fixed...

I'd find at least as many gems as I lost, and better ones at that.

and I'd still be out the 300k gold that was stolen but now I'm also out all the gold that I *didn't* make from not playing all night. Not sure how much I would have made, might not qutie have covered it or might have more than covered it counting the gear I'd pick up. And I'm out the XP too...
