This sucks. A year ago I never thought I would ever have to deal with this s*** ever again. Whatever. I hate being single, I'm not good at it. I wish it was easier to just skip right into a relationship because that's what I am good at.

Anyway, I got the number from a girl I met at Subway. We've been texting for a couple of days. It occurs to me that even though I'm trying to be intriguing I'm probably not pulling it off well enough. I'm too self-conscious about what I'm saying to her and... I don't know. We're just texting right now and she said before that it'd be cool if we were to hang out. But now it seems like she's too "busy" right now, so she's either suddenly not interested or she's playing hard to get (I hate this game).

I feel like she's starting to lose interest though.

So I need to learn how to text a girl correctly and pique her interest again so that she will indeed go out with me.

Any ideas?

PS: I'm still pissed that I have to ask you guys for advice. It's just even more depression. LIKE I NEEDED THAT.

I see. Well, think of something you can do together, ask her if she'd like to join you at the suggested date and time. If she can, great, if she can't, you can try the "hard to get" tactic yourself and not reply to all of her texts and reply with great delay to some. Who knows, she might bite that way.

But this "texting as a prelude to dating" thing is a lame situation to be in, it happened to me once. Didn't help that I was totally clueless about women at the time, but the whole thing ended up as a failure that I'd invested too much time and emotion into. Texting, shmexting. Let's just meet in person.

That's what I'm saying. Texting is dumb, I just wanna go on a date and actually talk in person and stuff. That would be much better and I'm sure I could succeed in that easily. However texting has become such a big part of the "dating" world that it seems I need to impress this girl through text before I can even go on a date with her.

It is stupid. But it is how society has developed. And if I'm to make any progress, I have to get the hang of it.

I did text her and say that I was cruisin' around in my alien spaceship and that it can still be hers if she goes out with me.

I feel like that is incredibly lame but she originally said that the "spaceship" thing was the best pick up line she ever heard. So either she was lying or I need to continue being that silly. I'm betting on the latter. Pretty much nothing to lose at this point.

I don't know how long you've been texting her, but I've never made progress with an extended period of texting between receiving a girl's number and going out, so that's not a situation I've got much confidence in.

I'm not gonna lie. This is a legit problem and something you need to sort out rather than just attempting to ignore by jumping into a relationship. I've always been of the opinion that people need to be strong enough to live independently before jumping into a relationship. Don't be codependent, it only leads to more mistakes, and more pain when things don't work out. And seriously dude, I know you have problems with depression and whatnot, but it's something you actually need to try and deal with (through counselling or whatever) rather than just live with. Trust me, I'm speaking through both personal experience and experience in dealing with people in the same situation. You'll be happier if you try and take care of things.

Anyway, if she's into Harry Potter, compare her to Luna Lovegood. Not kidding, girls love that.

Yeah I agree with LS about the co-dependent thing. You don't even know if you like this girl, you just want to be in a relationship with her. Think of dating as both parties figuring out if they like each other beyond "cute person I met at Subway". If she's too busy, then just blow her off and move on.
