Diablo might as well become a CRPG ala Guild Wars or Path of Exile (the true Diablo 3 in my book).

Hub cities to meet other players and trade, rest of the game instanced.

Yep. I've been comparing Guild Wars to Diablo 2 for years now. Just replace chat rooms with cities.

Wait, Diablo 3 doesn't have a single player mode? I was thinking about getting it (waiting for reviews), but if its some online only thing then no thanks

Well to be fair, D2 did have a single player mode... why you would want to play it, I dunno, but it was there.

In general, I play games offline if I have the option to, because people are douchebags. Every time I've tried to get into the online community for a game that wasn't an MMO, I immediately stopped trying to get into the online community.

Besides, it's not like anyone had a legit character in D2.

D2 was designed/balanced for a solo player with good stat/skill allocation, and the 'difficulty' ramped up through monster attributes. D3 seems to be the opposite - designed/balanced around 4 people playing, and ramping down for less people.
