Oh yeah, the other big news is that Vince beat Flair in a match to become sole owner of all of WWE again. So now Vince runs both brands (although after King of the Ring the concept of the "General Manager" that still exists to this day is born).

If settling the ownership struggle was that simple, the Board of Directors REALLY overreacted by splitting the company in half. <_<

Few other tidbits...

Bradshaw pretty much gives us the worst custom belt design ever with his version of the Hardcore title, it makes both spinner belts look godly by comparison. Thankfully, you won't see it on ppv ever.

From: Jakyl25 | #150
RVD finally got the title back from Eddie in a fantastic ladder match on Raw.

Even with the random drunk guy interfering and being taken out by security, this was a very good match.

KotR happens between JD and the next ppv, and while you get to see the semi-finals on ppv, here's the rest of the bracket...

Chris Jericho defeated Edge by forfeit (Edge suffered a shoulder injury from a cage match with Angle on SD after Judgment Day)
Val Venis defeated Christian
X-Pac defeated Goldust (if Goldust won, he'd be allowed into the nWo; he even had the black and white paint to support his friend Booker T!)
Rob Van Dam defeated Eddie Guerrero
Brock Lesnar defeated Bubba Ray Dudley
Booker T defeated William Regal
Hardcore Holly defeated Tajiri
Test defeated The Hurricane

Jericho defeated Val Venis
RVD defeated X-Pac
Brock Lesnar defeated Booker T
Test defeated Hardcore Holly

And finally, the nWo update for this month: Kevin Nash declared that the nWo had an announcement that would shake the WWE off its own foundation. That announcement would wind up being the nWo's newest member, Shawn Michaels! HBK went to work putting the spotlight back on the nWo, and did so by kicking Booker T out, inciting a feud between Booker T and Goldust and the nWo!

nWo members at KotR: Shawn Michaels (new "leader"), Kevin Nash, Big Show, X-Pac

At this point in 2002, DDP was suffering a few injuries he had sustained from a match with Hardcore Holly, so WWE just let his contract expire and DDP left on good terms. In fact, it was the first departure for any Alliance member since Brian Adams and Bryan Clark were released in September 2001.

And also for Vince winning 100% control of the WWE, the biggest assist was from Brock Lesnar, who delivered an F5 to Ric Flair. Nothing really came out of this storyline except for a one-and-done matchup between Flair and Lesnar. While it was impressive to see Flair hit a back-body drop on a nearly 300 pound man, the match was still won by Lesnar with ease.

Finally, one of the funniest most failed gimmicks of 2002 around May/June is Tommy Dreamer's. After being drafted to Raw, Dreamer's gimmick was that he was just like any other guy... except he like to put disgusting things in his mouth. This included hair, hot dogs after they've been stepped on, and sharing his toothbrush with his dog. Undertaker pwns Tommy Dreamer in one segment by forcing him to drink Taker's tobacco juice.

King of the Ring 2002

Recap of former King of the Ring winners. Guys like Mabel and Billy Gunn are missing from the list here.

Dear god, this PPV is hyping up Test. Go Rob Van Dam, kick his damn ass!

Chris Jericho Vs. Rob Van Dam

Break the walls against one of a kind here. Rob Van Dam can own crowds like few others.

Loads of grappling early on. Kicks by RVD and there's still wrestling to establish wrist control. Jericho knocks him down, they're running the ropes a lot.

Double dropkick and they're mirroring their moves. This leads us to the RVD taunt. RVD's legdrop isn't enough.

You can hear some E-C-Dub chants. Jericho misses the springboard dropkick. RVD can fly and that's suicidal. RVD climbs the top rope and it's not a dropkick but a kick.

Jericho uses the ref as prop to hit the ropes. RVD falls and Jericho goes for the superplex. Shoulders down and a kickout. Jericho sucks! Jericho sucks!

Clothesline and a lateral press on RVD isn't enough. Jericho's exposing the top turnbuckle. ROLLUP! REF YOU SLOW! Punch by Van Dam, Jericho drives him to the canvas.

Time to use the ropes to choke him and now choke him with tape! I think everyone wants to face Test in the finals. Jericho crashing into the post after RVD sidesteps him.

More hard shots and a spinning heel kick. Gotta love those and Van Dam's keeping his legs up. Springboard kick. Another cover and another kickout.

Jericho slides and uses his speed to land an enziguri. Suplex and Jericho came close there. RVD's a big fella.

SPLIT LEGGED MOONSAULT! The match continues. Jericho wants to end it with the walls, reversal by Van Dam and Jericho has to kickout fast.

Slingshot and Jericho lands on the ropes he jumps into a kick. Jericho trying to pin using the ropes, doesn't work. BULLDOG! LIONSAULT MISSES! WALKS INTO A KICK!

FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH MISSES! LIONSAULT! INEFFECTIVE! Lawler's impressed, the crowd loves RVD. RVD may have wanted a rana, but Jericho applies the walls, too close to the ropes though.

Jericho smacks Van Dam's head into the post and he falls on the ropes. THERE'S THE FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH! Rob Van Dam will be competing to become the King of the Ring.

Van Dam wants to wrestle Godzilla, so Jericho attacks him from behind.

THIS IS A TEST! You can almost hear Nee crying in the background.

Test Vs. Brock Lesnar

Brock's theme changed again, this one sounds badass as hell. Elbow tie up and Test is not backing down. Test is finally cornered and Brock's shoulder charges are shattering those ribs.

I think the crowd's chanting Goldberg. big clothesline by Test and he wanted the boot. Lesnar bails from the ring and consults Paul Heyman. Test still has the upper hand and he's going all out with those elbows.

Stomps on Brock, he's showing a lot of energy for once. He stops a rushing Lesnar with an elbow. Big Spinebuster and several elbow drops by Brock Lesnar. Huge irish whip into the corner.

Big strikes and Test is on the end of a slam that looks totally like the olympic slam. Backbreaker by Lesnar, Test gets up and starts to keep punching. Power Slam!

SIDEWALK SLAM BY TEST! This must be the best Test match up to till now. Test is trying to finish this off with a pump handle slam. Brock showing his agility. THERE IT IS PUMP HANDLE SLAM! Test kicks out.

Heyman looks worried. Powerbomb misses, BIG BOOT! HOLY MOLY TEST IS GOING TO WIN! NO BROCK KICKS OUT! Heyman distracts test F5! Lesnar wins it. Man if Test can make you look vulnerable then RVD should have no problem beating you.

Bubba talks about King of the Ring.

Smackdown dude's chatting with Christian and Lance Storm. oh guy's name was apparently Mark Lloyd.

This video package for the upcoming Hurricane feud is incredibly long and I've no idea why.

WWE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH:

Jamie Noble Vs. The Hurricane (c)

Elbow tie up. The pair of them are pretty fast, waistlock by Hurricane and Noble is being arrogant.

Front Facelock and there's some grappling. Hurricane's going for the chokeslam, elbows by Noble to get out of the way.

Hurricane's got some holds on. Nidia tries to interfere and Hurricane chases after her, this doesn't end well for him.

Noble's ramming Hurricane in the corner and for two small quick guys they're fighting like titans here. Suplex by Noble and a cover.

Nidia's still mad and Noble's got the abdominal stretch on. Noble's covers are coming up short. Slam by Noble and another kickout.

Kick by hurricane and he just drove Noble down. Whip, sleeper hold, jawbreaker by Noble. Sleeper hold and Hurricane's fading.

They're trading right hands and Noble gets hit with a neckbreaker. Right hands and a clothesline. Hurricane jumps from the corner and connects with Noble.

Hurricane signaling that the end is near. Suplex by Noble gets him a nearfall. HURRICANE STORM! Noble kicking out.

Here comes the cape! But Nidia takes it away. Noble tries to attack from behind and he ends on the outside. Baseball slide and Hurricane's down.

NECKBREAKER FROM THE TOP! Nidia goes for another distraction, Hurricane whips Noble into her and then Chokeslams him.

Hurricane from the top, Noble hits the ropes and Noble hits the powerbomb. Hurricane had a foot on he rope that Nidia pushes away.

Hey look, the Rock is back, totally forgot that this man still worked for the company.

Oh my god, look Flair got beaten up by Benoit and Eddie. Those two guys own. Eddie's with Terri, I guess she still does work afterall.

I noticed, she doesn't seem to even have a waist, like a floating pair of plastic breasts.

Out comes Ric Flair.

Ric Flair Vs. Eddie Guerrero

Eddie's shuffling around Flair and he's circling him and he's mocking the Nature Boy too. Flair walks into a dropkick.

Flair had to bail from the ring. Ref's trying to break them apart. Flair with a hard chop and he's strutting. Eddie's out of the ring.

Eddie's going after Flair hard with chops in the corner, reversal and more chops. Punches to the skull and a low blow, followed by a strut.

Right hands by Flair and another chop. Eddie's very frustrated and on the verge of exploding in anger. Vertical suplex by Flair impressing the crowd.

Whip and a missed chop, low dropkick by Guerrero to the knee. Eddie's going after the knee now. Chop fest and Eddie's not letting up any pressure on him.

Eddie stomps on Flair some more and now uses the ropes to cause some more pain on the knee. Figure Four Leglock he's really trying to make sure Flair can't stand up no more.

Flair's still not tapping out. Snapmare and Eddie's chopping away. Eddie runs, Flair elevates him right over the top. Eddie gets back in the ring and he's going for a vertical suplex.

Guerrero going for a frog splash and he comes up short, Flair goes after the leg and he's hurting it for a figure four leglock.

Benoit's coming towards the ring. Eddie was able to get to the ropes, Flair's chopping and Eddie rolls him up, he had the tights! Backslide.

Armdrag takedown by Flair and Eddie's trying to use a bridge to gett out of the pin but he's low on strength apparently.

Flair with a chop, he gets elbowed down and Flair chops. Tornado DDT and Eddie's got a chance but Flair has a boot on the ropes. Benoit gets to work on the leg and he's even got a crossface on!

Bubba runs in from behind, BUBBA BOMB ON EDDIE! It's over!

Food time in NY.

WWE WOMEN'S TITLE MATCH:

Molly Holly Vs. Trish Stratus (c)

Trish is being manhandled Molly Holly going after the arm and she's really stretching that thing. Rollup by Trish.

Loads of rollups and a droptoe hold by Molly. Boot to the throat and Molly's being aggressive.

Chop and she's smacking Trish's head around, whip into the barricade. Molly breaks the count and she's still looking impressive.

Huge elbow and Trish is chopping away. Dropkick by Trish and there's another kick. Suplex and Trish kicks out. Molly hurts her ass doing flippies.

Rollup and she's got a handful of tights and wins the title.

Angle's got a wig on. He's badmouthing the real american Hulk Hogan. There's our Video Package.

This is part of greater feud between Hogan and McMahon.

Hollywood Hulk Hogan Vs. Kurt Angle

Angle's getting overpowered. Suplex attempts and he's too weak. Hogan's not going to let Angle outwrestle him. He's just going to stop him from wrestling.

Right hands by Angle and there's a clothesline. Right hand by Hogan and he toses Angle into the barricade. Hogan breaks the count and attacks Angle. Back into the ring.

Head to corner spot. Low blow turns the momentum. Boot to the throat and Angle's hitting more rights. Hogan's using rights of his own. Suplex by Angle, there's another one and a cover.

Blocked suplex and Hogan hits the suplex. Bodyslam from Hogan, whip and Angle has the sleeper on him. Hogan's not fading away, now he's got a sleeper of his own.

Angle with the quick suplex to break the sleeper hold. Suplex and Hogan kicks out again, he's Hulking up. Angle's realized it and he's still punching.

Hogan uses the five moves of doom, he's removed the wig. There we go again, Angle gets out of the ring and avoids the big boot. Angle runs in with a chair and hits the rope which bounces off himself.

Big Boot, legdrop that misses, ANKLE LOCK! Hogan was trying to fight out of it, Angle keeps the lock on, Hogan gets to the ropes, Angle drags him back to the center of it and the lock sees Hogan tapping out.

Goldust paid for his shirt.

Brock Lesnar Vs. Rob Van Dam

Tie up and Brock's leg is getting kicked by RVD. This is over! Brock just caught RVD and delivered a powerbomb. Stomp on the back.

Powerslam from Brock and he's looking great. Brock with two backbreakers, RVD's back is broken!

Elbows by RVD to break out of a bear hug, Brock rams him with shoulder charges in the corner. RVD sidesteps one and his kick is blocked. But he's still kicking the legs.

Springboard kick and a bad back isn't stopping Van Dam from using a rolling thunder. Heyman attacked Van Dam from behind and it nearly led to a pin. RVD gives him a baseball slide.

F5! Lesnar's the King of the Ring.

Triple H is walking backstage, Shawn's there with the rest of the nWo and they do Kliq signs.

MAIN EVENT:

WWE UNDISPUTED TITLE:

The Undertaker (c) Vs. Triple H

The two are squaring off and Undertaker headbutts him, Triple H with some right hands. Undertaker's going in with his own.

Takedown by Triple H and he's going for a quick choke. Undertaker's sent over the top. Triple H joins him and they fight close to the steps.

Whip into the stairs. Undertaker's getting hammered on the barricade. Right hand by Undertaker and another one.

Big Boot and Undertaker misses. Triple H mounts him in the corner and starts throwing rights. Undertakers dropping him.

Undertaker's looking at his fist, I don't know why and he's headbutting Undertaker. Right hands and Triple H falls.

Sidewalk slam Undertaker's covers are inefficient. Legdrop by Undertaker on the apron, Triple H is still kicking out of those.

Triple H is using his favourite right hands, they never use left hands. Undertaker tosses Triple H out of the ring and grabs him by the head, toss innto the steps.

Kicks to the gut stop the right hands, suplex on the outside! Legdrop by Undertaker, this could just be me, but I feel like they've only used a combined eight moves in this match.

More rights and this time Triple H uses the headbutt. Undertaker dives in with a clothesline, he's removing the turnbuckle padding.

Stomp by Undertaker, whip from Triple H to the turnbuckle and a neckbreaker. Spinbebuster from Triple H and Undertaker kicks out at two.

Paul Heyman's talking a lot. Snake eyes, doesn't affect Triple H, high knee and a kickout. DDT, cover and a kickout. Pedigree time, no slingshot into the referee.

Now Undertaker squashes him and everyone's down. Wait what why is The Rock here. He's coming after Heyman. We're going to hear some Rock commentary. Facebuster by the game and over the top he goes.

Undertaker just kicked The Rock's head off, crazy fangirls in the front are marking out bro. Undertaker has a chair but he's not using it, Rock assaults, chairshots misses Undertaker and hitts Triple H in the face.

This match became a triple threat at some point. Last Ride and here comes the referee Nick Patrick. The Game kicks out and Undertaker is shocked. Down goes another Ref, in comes The Rock.

ROCK BOTTOM! WE GOT A NEW CHAMPION! THE PEOPLE'S CHAMPION! Oh wait Triple H is there all busted open. Refs are still dead. Hebner with the slowest count in history and Undertaker woke up.

Pedigree! Hebner's suffering from a heart attack apparently, they need fitter referees. Low blow and a handful of tights. Undertaker is still champion! Man who the hell wins on low blows.

Undertaker's talking trash to The Rock and the peoplle's champion's running in. People's elbow is incoming and it connects! Triple H gives Rock a Pedigree! Chokeslam by Undertaker. Are we heading towards a triple threat?

Vince McMahon, now having regained control of the company, decided to keep the Raw and SmackDown brands separate. In order to facilitate competition between the brands, he decided to delegate executive responsibility to a General Manager for each brand.

For SmackDown, he selected...his daughter, Stephanie McMahon!

For Raw, he selected...FORMER WCW EXECUTIVE ERIC BISCHOFF!

The world was stunned as Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff, once mortal foes, shook hands on Monday Night Raw, and shared an embrace!

In order to kickstart the competition, Vince declared that every WWE Superstar was up for grabs. For a grace period of 2 months, anyone could switch brands if they want, and it was up to the GMs to find ways to put together the best roster.

One major target of Raw was Triple H. Originally, the nWo was attempting to woo him to Raw (what with them already being 3/5 of the Kliq and all), but after Kevin Nash suffered a torn quad, Vince McMahon came out on Raw and basically handwaved the nWo from existence meta-textually. One of the odder things you'll ever see.

HBK was still trying to get Triple H to come to Raw though, and Triple H was torn between his best friend and his ex-wife! He is set to make his final decision at Vengeance!

Jeff Hardy winning the European Championship was hilarious to me, mainly because a week prior to said victory, he fought the Undertaker in a ladder match for the Undisputed Championship, a match which I was the only person who thought it was highly overrated. People talked about how Jeff was going to get a push from that match, and his push was... winning the C-level championship.

A few final tidbits concerning the nWo

At the time of the nWo's demise, as JaKyL stated, the nWo was telling Trips to join them or else. Rumor has it that the original plan was for Triple H to stay face and feud against the nWo, going from ppv to ppv beating down various members (Pac, Big Show, Nash, all the way up to WrestleMania XIX where Trips and HBK would face off, supposedly). Of course, two things were slowly putting this to a halt.

1) Nash's torn quad, which was the final nail in the coffin. Nash's injury would keep him out of action until April 2003.
2) X-Pac being released from the WWE (yay!), due to behavioral issues and due to passing out at an airport

Speaking of X-Pac, he was booked to job to Booker T around (or even at) Vengeance. Pac refused to do so, claiming that the fans came to see him more than Booker T. With Pac's release, Booker T instead feuded with another nWo member for less than a month.

No Alliance members were given a pink slip during this time period, but Raven lost a match to Tommy Dreamer, which banned him from Raw. Instead of trying to go to SmackDown, Raven chose to make Heat his personal playground. He instead had a storyline that went nowhere, and feuds with Matt Hardy, D'Lo Brown, and Tommy Dreamer, all which went nowhere as he spent the final six months of his WWE career on Heat.

Edge returned from injury after King of the Ring and continued feuding with Chris Jericho. The two originally had a match booked for Vengeance, but with Edge winning a tag title with the Hulkster, Jericho was able to dodge a bullet and got the ppv off.

Finally, another stable was formed shortly after King of the Ring; what started out as Lance Storm going on an Anti-America tirade soon turned into three Canadians and one British guy bashing the USA and becoming some of the biggest heels as a result. Lance Storm, Christian, Test, and William Regal formed the UnAmericans!

Best TV match during this time period is Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle for the Undisputed Championship on Independence Day's SmackDown!

A funny thing about the nWo.

According to some old dirtsheets, Nash would have been pushed as the top heel on Raw, with the nWo a force to be reckoned with. Triple H would've ended up turning down the nWo offer, got beaten up, and would have been the top face on Raw going against his old allies.

In the free agent period now where people can switch shows at will, the Un-Americans jumped from SmackDown to Raw, taking the Tag Team Titles with them!

Eric Bischoff decided that the European Championship was no longer needed and had a match between IC Champ RVD and Euro Champ Jeff Hardy with both belts on the line to unify Euro into IC. RVD won and is recognized as the final European Champion before the belt's immediate deactivation.

Soon after, though, Chris Benoit would defeat RVD for the IC Title, and then Benoit and Guerrero jumped to SmackDown and took the IC Title with them!

One final absurd list of Hardcore Title Changes:
Bradshaw -> Raven -> Justin Credible -> Shawn Stasiak -> Bradshaw -> Raven -> Justin Credible -> Shawn Stasiak -> Bradshaw -> Raven -> Justin Credible -> Shawn Stasiak -> Bradshaw -> Jeff Hardy -> Johnny Stamboli -> Tommy Dreamer -> Bradshaw -> Tommy Dreamer -> Bradshaw -> Tommy Dreamer -> Shawn Stasiak -> Steven Richards -> Tommy Dreamer -> Shawn Stasiak -> Steven Richards -> Tommy Dreamer -> Shawn Stasiak -> Steven Richards -> Tommy Dreamer -> Raven -> Shawn Stasiak -> Tommy Dreamer -> Shawn Stasiak -> Steven Richards -> Tommy Dreamer -> Bradshaw -> Crash Holly -> Tommy Dreamer

Then, finally, the 24/7 Rule was de-activated for good.

Undisputed Champion: The Rock
Women's Champion: Molly Holly

Tag Team Champions: Lance Storm/Christian
Hardcore Champion: Tommy Dreamer

Intercontinental Champion: Chris Benoit
Cruiserweight Champion: Jamie Noble

The biggest news storyline-wise was Triple H's heel turn on Shawn Michaels. Shawn was so offended by his best friend turning on him that he's going to return to the ring, one last time, in an unsanctioned match to get revenge on Triple H!

For the first time in over four years, the Heartbreak Kid will step into the squared circle, but will he ever be the same?!

Various brand shifts at the time...

Raw to SmackDown: Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero. And to an extent, Brock Lesnar, who started appearing on SmackDown to troll with The Rock.

SmackDown to Raw: Test, Lance Storm, Christian, William Regal, Chris Jericho

Sent to exile/injured reserve: Mark Henry and Hulk Hogan, both at the hands of Brock Lesnar.

Debuts: SmackDown got Rey Mysterio, making his first appearance on American wrestling television since WCW folded. Raw got Three Minute Warning, two 300+ lb Samoans named Jamal and Rosey, who basically come out at Bischoff's command and demolish whoever is in the ring, whether it's Shawn Stasiak, Mae Young, or a midget version of Goldust.

Alignment shifts: Trips turning heel, and Taker turning face. So much for awesome heel Taker -_-

And finally, a Where are they now? for the now dead nWo!
Kevin Nash - Injured until April 2003
Shawn Michaels - JaKyL explained this already.
X-Pac - Gone. Forever.
