Look, this has literally happened with every form of media other than video games. And it's free! Don't even have to buy the Blu-Ray to get the alternate ending or buy the sequel in which the author reveals that the main character never died at all! We don't even know if they're changing it or not. Honestly, a simple rewrite to fix the bad writing in the original could make people happy while still preserving the "artistic integrity" of the writers if that's what you're hung up on. And let's set something straight: people didn't dislike the ending just because of fan butthurt (although there is a ton of that, I'll admit).
