stuff like Nefertiti from Mana Khemia, Masaki's theme from SRW, Motoi Sakuraba's battle themes in general, Shiki's theme from the KnK movies, stuff like that. I need some good music to get motivated to kick this homework's ass.

Besides stuff everyone knows, like BFES, World Rev, The Extreme, Still More Fighting, Force Your Way, Battle on the Big Bridge, etc?
Illusion of Gaia: final boss - SMT:DDS2 : Divine Entity - FFL2: final boss - DFO: Behemoth Boss 1 - Goldeneye: Antenna Cradle - SSBB: Dedede - Touhou 3: Strawberry Crisis - (I'm sure there are much better Touhou suggestions, but I'm not a Touhou guy) Amplitude: Nitro Narcosis - (depends on your definition of battle, and I suppose also intense) GGX: Still in the Dark - SMB: Lil Slugger - GH3: Devil Went Down to GA -
How much intensity do you require? Does it have to go to 11? (Some of these stop at 10.)
And since you mentioned Kara no Kyokai, non-game music is go, so lemme mention just a couple choice pieces.
Dropkick Murphys, I'm Shipping Up To Boston: (You talkin' Boss Strings, you got your Boss Strings right here! Doesn't get much more intense than making a freakin' banjo sound like hell is coming to wreck some poor bastard's ****) Ayreon, Chaos: (Not the battle music for anything, but it easily could be. Lookit that shredding!)
And last, but most certainly not least...
Fatboy Slim, Right Here, Right Now: (Movies have used it for years as a backdrop to fight scenes. The guys behind movie music had very good reasons for it)
This should be enough for now. I've got more if needed, though!

Just 'cause everybody knows them doesn't mean there isn't a good excuse to repost them!
Let's start with some classics:
Battle at the Big Bridge, 20th Anniversary Version: Force Your Way, Black Mages Version: (My personal favorite battle theme, ever) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV, Turtles in Time, Boss Theme: Streets of Rage Remake v5, Max Man II: (A very different sort of intensity compared to the others, but just as deserving of applause. Few themes convey a message as clearly as this one...and in this case, the message is 'your **** gon' get wrecked, son') Streets of Rage Remake v5, Attack The Barbarian: (Great for getting pumped up!) Streets of Rage Remake v5, Mona/Lisa: (Really, pick a SoRR song, any SoRR song. It's either beautiful, catchy, or badass fight music. This is probably my favorite though) Chrono Trigger, Boss 1: (Some people prefer Boss 2 - I, personally, think Boss 1 packs a much bigger punch)
And then, the slightly more obscure stuff:
Unreal Tournament, Organic: Doom: Dark Side of Phobos Arrange Album, Hangarmaggeddon: (Just how hard can a tune from an old-ass game rock? THIS HARD.) Final Fantasy 8, All Existence Denied, The Extreme Dwelling of Duels Mix: http://www.dwellingofduels.net/dodarchive/09-05-Free_Month/14-Skummel%20Maske,%20LuIzA-Final%20Fantasy%208-All%20Existence%20Denied%20The%20Extreme-DoD.mp3 Yoshi's Island, Koopa Remix: Frank Klepacki, He Lives: Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, Hell March 2: ('Die Waffen...Legt Ahn!') Etrian Odyssey 3, Is That Thine Blood or Thine Enemy's?: (F. O. E.) Etrian Odyssey 3, Disturbances ~ Hoist The Sword With Pride In The Heart: (Nothing much to say about this tune - it's fast, catchy, and pretty good at pumping you up. Good BOSS FIGHT theme!) Etrian Odyssey 3, Battlefield ~ The First Campaign: (Chiptune music didn't die after the Genesis and SNES era - it just leveled up and became more hardcore, if this kickin' rad tune is proof of anything. Incidentally, Yuzo Koshiro is a god) Etrian Odyssey 3, The First Campaign Super Arrange Version: (Speaking of leveling up...the same theme above, but now with live instruments, and boy does it sound great!)
