The baby was only said about 13 or some times actually. Wasnt as beaten over the head with it as thought.

It's just your average bad entry in a good series, but I guess the Metroid fanbase was full of basement dwellers that had to tear the Samus posters off their walls.

You don't get to tell me my hate is overblown when you clearly weren't a fan like I am. Especially when your post clearly shows you have zero clue about... well, anything to do with the series in general.

EDIT: Hell, Fusion and Zero Mission, even Hunters, were the arguable 'bad games in a good series', even if they were good and just bad by Super Metroid standards. And Metroid 2 doesn't really hold up in modern times, nor does Metroid... really Metroid as a series revolves around Super Metroid and the Primes, and I'm not much of a fan of the Primes. Other M looked at the poor qualities of those 'bad games in a good series' and said 'I CAN DO BETTER'

And by god, it did better in being so much worse.

I haven't played Hunters or Return of Samus.

Fusion and Corruption were bad, but the rest (I, III, ZM, Prime and Prime 2) were all fantastic.

Sorry, but I can't stand hypocritical posts like this. If you're going to criticize people for getting worked up about something, you probably shouldn't go on some fuming rant which characterizes them as nerdy "basement dwellers" with anger problems.

People love Metroid more than you. People were upset at Other M more than you were. Why does this bother you enough to attack them?

Other M wasn't that bad to me. At least not too much worse than Fusion or Corruption.

It's not that they love Metroid more than me but an unhealthy obsession with a certain aspect of the series, i.e. the character of Samus.

zero mission is damn good except the new end part, and fusion isn't even that bad. hunters I'm not even sure if I'd count, that's like saying mario is missing is an example of a bad game in that series. other m is really the only major misstep in the metroid series, as much of an abortion as the game is it's pretty remarkable that it was that good for 20+ years, mario is the only series with a better track record

I don't think anyone has ever actually said "Samus's portrayal in Other M is good." Just seem people are like "whatever, it's not a huge deal," and others are like "Oh my god this is the worst f***ing thing ever."

Why do we have to argue about whether it was bad or terrible?

I think if you focus it solely on samus' portrayal you're missing the bigger picture entirely, other m isn't bad because it "ruined samus" or anything like that, the writing is just terrible on every level, the dialogue in other m makes george lucas look like a talented writer

ZM and Fusion are great. Hunters doesn't exist.

There are actually a couple things I like more in Other M than the Prime series. I like how in most Metroid games how when you revisit early areas, the enemies are fodder that can be taken down in one hit. Prime doesn't really do that but Other M does.

Hunters seemed more like an experiment.

Sure it was only good for the extremely unbalanced and buggy multiplayer, but I gotta give them props for experimenting without ruining the main series. Something Other M doesn't do very well.

Again though, no one's saying it was good. These arguments just boil down to "eh, it's not a big deal" vs "it's a very big deal."

It just seems like we're all on the same general side here, and we're just splitting hairs.

Man. These videos are making me hate the game all over again. I already hated it, a lot, but apparently I purged the worst of it from my mind and haven't been hating it enough because this is just dreadful.

Basically.

Almost as bad as whining about the Star Wars prequels (oh yes, I went there).

And hell, I'm a massive Metroid fan. Other M wasn't that great, but having one below average game doesn't ruin a series. It wasn't even that bad. It could have been awesome if they'd ironed out the kinks, even the story would have been really good if they'd spent more time on translation and maybe put it at a chronological point where it makes sense.

And really guys, statements like "99% of the fanbase hates it, you're wrong!" and "you don't UNDERSTAND the series like I do!" are just ridiculously myopic and make you look like the kind of unreasonable, whiny fans that nobody wants to deal with. You can hate Other M if you want, but let's at least accept that there are people who think otherwise and respect their opinions. And maybe, just maybe, discuss the game in a reasoned manner. Let's not turn the Metroid fanbase into the Star Wars or Sonic fanbases.

I think it's a great game, but the linearity kinda sucks.

For what the game intended to do, it did absolutely great. It pulled off an excellent atmosphere and the story is actually interesting. It was just a lot different from any previous Metroid game, is all.

EDIT: to clarify, I'm talking about Fusion, since that just got asked about. f*** Other M it did nothing right
