Interesting. I’m sure all the militant atheists who have a brain aneurism every time a Republican mentions God are enraged about this. I mean, the guy is basically stating that he makes policy for the nation based on his religion. That’s the same thing as a theocracy, right?

Right?

What's everybody's favourite breakfast cereal?

I've always been a fan of Cheerios. Kind of boring but good. I put sugar on top of them though, just a little. Goes very nicely.

Dammit. Though as far as things go, it's more like he's using religion as a weapon against his critics than anything. Still though, not the best of signs.

Well, there's more of a precedent for atheists who don't admit it due to the backlash it causes from some people than there is for evil Muslims pretending to be Christian to destroy the country from within through its highest office. But really, lacking any evidence to the contrary we should just take him at his word on that.

And what precedent would that be exactly?

Unless they infer from his positions that he couldn't possibly be a true Christian. Not an argument I am prepared to refute at this time!

Well, I'm saying more ordinary people than public figures. Someone might not believe in God but would rather not say it at a dinner with highly-religious relatives. As President of the US, there would be a much more serious backlash. But I am saying that there is no evidence of Obama being that.

Obama has always been about "hope" and "faith". Did atheists really endorse him?

I mean, you really need to have faith to believe in a guy that makes so many promises and doesn't keep any of them. Faith and stupidity, I guess.

SMuffin you realize that we don't have an alternative.

We have Obama who loosely admits that some policy is based on his religion (and it was solely a political move anyway).

Or we have any one of the republican candidates whose policies are guided PREDOMINANTLY by their religion.

I'm familiar with all of these studies, but it does seem a bit counterintuitive. It's like the whole "republicans only hate obama because he's black" logic. People who care enough about religion to use it as a litmus test for political office are almost certainly going to be voting republican anyway. That's just the way it works. During the actual campaign, Obama would say he was a Christian, but generally speaking, avoided the issue as much as possible (because once you dig deeper on it, it leads to Jeremiah Wright, which absolutely nobody was allowed to mention without being called a racist).

Do you really think the results would have been different if he said he was agnostic? I agree that coming out as an "atheist" probably wouldn't work, solely because atheist is a really loaded term that most people associate with a non-literal definition. It'd be like coming out as a "zionist" even though the literal definition of zionist is simply "someone who believes israel is a legitimate nation."

no im not

I mean, I'll admit to not knowing the specific nuances of Paul's beliefs on the subject. Because i don't care. I care about what his monetary policy is. What his fiscal policy is. What his foreign policy is. I care whether or not he will blow up brown children with predator drones.

But no, you guys keep voting based on whose analysis of monkey skeletons most conforms to your own. That'll work out well.

uh, who you support politically has to do with how you feel on more than just a handful of issues. i would imagine they simply prefer obama to the republican candidates even if they do not completely agree with him.

i dunno what you mean about religious bias and ron paul, i can't think of any situation where ron paul and obama's policies differ where ron paul ends up being the less religious one. even if there was some area where he seemed better in that regard, who people support has to do with more than just those kinds of issues.

Cons against every other American politician:
-they lie
-they are greedy
-they don't care about the common people
-they willingly destroy foreign countries
-they willingly destroy our country
-they are puppets of their party, who are then puppets of the rich donors

Cons against Ron Paul:
-doesn't believe in Evolution
-knows a guy who wrote something racist 30 years ago
-that's it

Gee I sure wonder why people like that Ron Paul idiot
