He's not that hard to beat. Just give him obscure school mascots. The size of the school does not matter. I've tried a big school (USC [Southern California]) and smaller ones (my community college) and he failed at guessing some of them.

Definitely not "too specific." Expecting people OR a computer to get a character by being broad like "Are they from a video game?" is just not fair. The point is that they're supposed to try and narrow it down.

Sometimes I'm impressed with just what he can get, but just as often I'm impressed with how fast he can get things. Like, say, Wood Man, who I'd think is moderately obscure. 15 guesses.

For what it's worth, I'd consider any yes/no question to be fair game in 20 questions, so I have no problem with him asking about Final Fantasy, Mega Man, etc. Strikes me as a very valid way to narrow things down, much like if it's a real person he'll ask if they're from America, France, etc.

To be fair, there are so many characters that properties overlap too much for that to still be fair. Like, if sticking with JUST those, it'd take some very, very specific questions to differentiate Maxi from Marshall Law or Jann Lee or Bruce Lee or Jet Li etc. etc. It often HAS to ask "Are they from ___."

I have stumped this thing exactly once in several hundred tries:

Deid Mann from Ace Attorney Investigations.

I'm not even sure if that counts, since he has no discernible characteristics beyond having a punny name.

So far stumped him with Vashtor and Oven Man But he's gotten ones that I'm pretty surprised on. The Funny part about Vashtor is I'm pretty sure Seighart who he listed on his maybes is from the same game.

The program doesn't even know what it's asking. It's a simple decision tree. All it knows is that when it shows cards x,y,z people want Cloud. That's why you sometimes get asked whether a male character has given birth or whatever.
