Magby didn't ruin Magmar, because Magmar was still the end of the line. When you had the Magmar line at its peak, it was still a badass Magmar. With Magmortar added, the final mon of the Mag line is an atrociously ugly piece of crap. You can't have an awesome Magmar anymore.

I don't understand how you can say Magmortar is ugly when there are tons of other Pokemon that are genuinely ugly (Stunfisk, Lickilicky, Probopass, just to name a few). Magmortar is Magmar with cannon arms. He's awesome.

Lickiicky looks dignified and Probopass and Stunfisk are designed to look goofy, but someone probably designed Magmortar trying to make him look cool, but he looks like a fat, ugly, evil, cartoon character in a Lady Gaga outfit that she herself thinks it's too ugly and bizarre.

Thanks! I agree too much nostalgia is a pretty bad thing. Might wanna check out Ermine's if you wanna see some really different poképinions. Bosco's was pretty different and nostalgia-free too, but his purged.

Nothing wrong with nostalgia, but "too much" Gen1 nostalgia makes for some pretty boring and predictable lists. I'd shudder to see Anagram's or VitalVI's lists at this point based on what I already know about them and their posts ITT.

Day 5: Flying Type

Whoaaaa, what's Flying type doing this low you ask? And the answer to that is simple: I’m unenthusiastic about the Flying type because I consider it more of an attribute than a type. It's diverse yes, but that's exactly the point. There are no primary Flying types and only one pure Flying type (and it's ugly as f***). All the rest are other types that have the ability to fly.

5. Altaria


Don't look at me that way, Altaria's a beast among the UU tier (not that I play competitively). It's also versatile and adorable. Dance on, Dragon! Dance on...

4. Noctowl


The scowling owl. Yes, I too am a member of Team Noctowl. Shame we couldn’t fly him to victory in the latest contest guys. :(

3. Ninjask


Because I couldn't fit him into my Bug list, the speedster places third here instead.

2. Murkrow


Quoth the Murkrow, nevermore. Ya, ya opinjuns. In my opinjun, witches > mafia bosses forever. Mad respect for Honchkrow for making the line actually competitive though.

1. Staraptor


Based solely on appearance, I actually like Staravia a lot more than Staraptor. Staravia is adorable and Staraptor has silly emo hair, but in anime spots and of course in stats and power (*cough* and fanart *cough*) Raptor outshines Avia in every way. Also it really does have the most badass name. Credit where due, etc.

Honorable Mention: Pidgeot The boss with the rainbow crest.

Note: The pokémon I’ve placed in this list virtually have no shot of appearing in my list for their other types, and any obvious omissions are probably because they have a better shot of appearing in my list for their other types. Example: Dragon type is way too competitive for Altaria to place in my top 5 there so I put it here, and Ice type doesn’t have a lot of representatives that I truly love so B8’s favorite bird will likely appear there instead. Remember, I’m going for as few repeats as possible.

80. Unfezant (female)


Actually, I'm quite partial to male Unfezant, but female Unfezant is just... unpleasant. It's just boring enough to make it into my bottom 5 Flyers.

81. Jumpluff


I'm not fond of the entire Hoppip line tbqh- wholely unremarkable. But I take special offense to Jumpluff, whom I consider the worst.

82. Mantyke


How many awful babies does it take to fill GameFreak's wallets? There's no punchline btw; that's the joke.

83. Chatot


The original troll pokémon. Ick.

84. Tornadus


Such disappointment when GF announced the first pure Flying type and it turned out to be this guy… Yuck. Double up: Yuck. Yuck.

Dishonorable Mention: Masquerain I love Masquerain (so this pains me a helluva lot), but dammit why did it become Bug/Flying instead of staying Bug/Water? If it weren't for its stupid typing, Masquerain would be in my top 5 for Bugs and not my DM for Flying. It still has a wicked cool design though.

Hmmm, I don't see any on your Bot 5 for flying that I care about, so we're good there. Top 5 is all fine choices except...I hate the way Staraptor looks, it's enough itself to make me dislike the pokemon. Bonus points for Murkrow though!

My top five would be:
1. Pidgeot
2. Noctowl
3. Braviary
4. Lugia
5. Aerodactyl

I would say Articuno but he would actually be on my top 5 Ice type list so I'll exclude him from Flying.

I know it's a pretty unpopular opinion but I actually do like Magmortar. One of my fav Pokemon actually. However, this is such a better design than the one it has.

Thanks! I kind of have no choice for Ice though. Gen1 kind of did Ice best. There haven't been a whole lot of truly fantastic Ice types since, and Gen5 really neglected the type =/.
