What's Volt White, you say? It's basically just a B/W version of Emerald 386 (there's also a Blaze Black version). All 649 Pokemon are available in the game, one way or another. There have been changes to moves, movesets, stats, evolution methods, and some Pokemon even have different types. For example, Serperior is now Grass/Dragon, Pignite/Emboar are now Fire/Ground, and Dewott/Samurott are now Water/Fighting.
Gym leader/trainer rosters are also vastly different, including level boosts. I've played a bit of it before, and most of the important battles tend to be either double or rotation battles (I don't remember any triple battles, though), to also add to the difficulty.
The rules for this playthrough shall be:
1. Can only catch the first Pokemon found in a route. If I accidentally kill it, "whoops". 1.a. No duplicates, but with the vast variety this games offers, I don't think that's going to be an issue. 2. If a Pokemon faints, it has to be released. 3. Every Pokemon must be nicknamed.
Due to the increased challenge, I'm not going to limit myself as far as items/TMs go.

Signing. You'd think Emboar would've gotten a better dual typing in something like this. Fire/Ground doesn't sound a whole lot better as far as weaknesses go.
Well, uh, I got started. Named myself mnk. Chose Oshawott, and beat Bianca's Tepig. Then as it would turn out, Cheren's Snivy has Contrary as its ability, and by using Tail Whip on it, I pretty much made sure there was no way I could beat it. Yep...
STARTING OVER!

Okay, that's better! I didn't use Tail Whip this time, and Snivy goes down. I actually almost lost again, though. Snivy was faster and got me within range of losing with another hit, but it used Leer instead, letting me get in the final blow. Cheren be stupid.
Let's check out what I got...
Oshawott (soon to be Pirateking) Lv. 7 Bold nature (bleh) Vital Spirit Nuvema Town Often dozes off.
My room is trashed, my big screen TV is askew, but at least my Wii is still scratch-free! Oh well, at least my mom will clean everything up. She knows who runs this household. After all, I'm the one with the bedroom, while she's stuck sleeping on a little blue cushion.
Anyway, as I'm about to leave, she starts reminiscing about her time as a Pokemon trainer, and then she gives me a bike. Niiice.
Before heading to the lab, I decide to check in on Bianca. Her father turns out to be a rational parent and tells her she can't go on a dangerous journey filled with monsters that can eat her alive. But naturally, she leaves anyway.
At the lab, Cheren proves to be an insolent twerp with no manners. Juniper gives us all Pokedexes, and it turns out Oshawott is a fan of the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie, deciding she also wants to be a female Pirateking.
Bianca then concludes that this professor has more authority over her than her own parents, making it okay for her to run away from home. Cheren agrees. Well okay then.
Outside, my mom shows up and gives us all a Town Map. On the edge of Nuvema Town, Bianca becomes overly sentimental and we all take our first step out onto Route 1 together. Aww, memories... Juniper teaches us all how to catch Pokemon, by sending out her Minccino. I want a Minccino...
Anyway, Poke Balls!
After a few steps in the tall grass, I encounter...
catastrofy, the female Zigzagoon! Lv. 4 Calm nature (also bleh...) Pickup Route 1 Likes to relax.
Zigzagoon has no real changes (but Linoone does, and I'll note those if/when it evolves).
More in a bit.

This level 5 Pidgey knows Razor Wind, heh. Scared the crap out of me at first because I wasn't sure how strong it would be. Thankfully it's not that strong, and catastrofy didn't die. In fact, it was nice of it to use it twice, since it gave me two free turns basically.

Alright, I got Pirateking and catastrofy both up to level 8 (and a Repel from Pickup), and moved on to Acculuma Town. Juniper does more tutorial stuff that I guess Cheren is too good for, and I heal up at the Pokemon Center. I also buy some Potions.
Team Plasma does its spiel, the townsfolk act gullible, and then N introduces himself. I hope level 8 is enough for this...
He begins the fight with a level 6 Nincada. I think catastrofy should be able to handle this one. Yes, she can, but three Bug Bites have left her at 3 HP, so I switch to Pirateking as N sends out a level 6 Mankey. She Water Guns the Mankey and the succeeding Purrloin to hell and back, and levels up in the process.
Pirateking is so much stronger than catastrofy. I don't know how much longer the latter can keep up...
Heading out onto Route 2, my mom shows up again and gives me the Running Shoes. Playing the first two generations again must be torture...
Walking into the grass gets me...
Wicklebee, the female Purrloin! Lv. 8 Careful nature Limber Likes to relax.
Jesus Christ, this thing almost killed catastrofy with a critical hit Faint Attack. On the bright side, though, Wicklebee knows Faint Attack! That's a pretty big improvement over the normal Scratch and Assist. Maybe she'll be useful for me.
Team: Pirateking, the female Oshawott, lv. 9; Bold; Tackle, Tail Whip, Water Gun catastrofy, the female Zigzagoon, lv. 8; Calm; Tackle, Growl, Tail Whip Wicklebee, the female Purrloin, lv. 8; Careful; Scratch, Growl, Assist, Faint Attack
After a healthy dose of trainer battles and what feels like an increased encounter rate, I make it through to the end of Route 2. And as I'm about to make it to Striaton City, Bianca shows up again and asks for a battle. Let's she what she's got.
First up is a level 9 Meowth. catastrofy starts things out for me. A combo of Fake Out and Bite lowers her HP down. Fearing what could happen if I pressed my luck, I use a Potion. And rightfully so, as the next Scratch would've killed her. Not to worry, though. Meowth goes down after two Headbutts.
Next up is a level 10 Tepig, and I switch to Wicklebee. Hopefully Faint Attack proves to be helpful. Goddammit, Tepig's first Ember lands a burn and Wicklebee's down below half health. Playing it safe, I switch to Pirateking, who should have no real trouble finishing up. And indeed, one Water Gun is all it takes. Yay I win, and still with no casualties.
Team: Pirateking, the female Oshawott, lv. 11; Bold; Tackle, Tail Whip, Water Gun, Water Sport catastrofy, the female Zigzagoon, lv. 10; Calm; Tackle, Growl, Tail Whip, Headbutt Wicklebee, the female Purrloin, lv. 11; Careful; Scratch, Sand-Attack, Assist, Faint Attack

I don't really want the Pansear, but I'm afraid catastrofy and Wicklebee won't be enough to take down Cilan. Pansear is your favorite of the three monkeys, right Genesis? I guess I'll pick it up then...

I scavenge around Striaton City, seeing what items are available to me. There's two Great Balls, an X-Speed, and some thug hiding behind a building offered up ten Dive Balls. I see.
I ignored the gym and trainer's school, and headed to the Dream Yard first. Yay more trainer battles. Oh god they're all level 10 I hope I don't die. Okay, that wasn't so bad. A lesbian Skitty tried to use Attract on Wicklebee, though.
Oh god this level 11 Rattata is kicking my ass with Quick Attack... It seriously got all three of my Pokemon into the red before it somehow missed a Bite attack as I healed, allowing Wicklebee to get the kill. It must have Hustle as its ability.
Welcome to the team...
Genesis, the male Pansear! Lv. 10 Rash nature (not bad) Blaze Sturdy body.
Looks like the monkeys had their movesets really worked over. Instead of Lick, it knows Hone Claws. Also, Incinerate was boosted from 30 BP to 50. Coo.
I'll get it a couple levels before I take on Cilan.

Genesis learned Acrobatics at level 12. How useful!
After doing a bit of grinding, I headed off to the trainer school. Inside, Cheren asked for another battle. He started off with a level 11 Starly. I believe Wicklebee can handle this, and she does. One Wing Attack brought her to half health, but she perservered.
Next came his level 12 Snivy, so naturally I switched to Genesis. He had no trouble wiping the floor with it, even burning up Snivy's Oran Berry in the process.
For beating him, he gives me HM1 Cut. Which... is now a 60BP Grass move with 100% accuracy. Well then! I teach it to catastrofy so she'll have something besides Normal attacks.

Cilan tells me to bring in three Pokemon and I'll see why later. Why, it's because this a rotation battle! I wonder what I would've done if two of my Pokemon had already died, leaving me with only two...
The first trainer starts out with a Slowpoke, and since I had Genesis in the lead, I quickly switch to catastrofy. She gets in some damage with Cut, but she fell victim to Yawn and fell asleep... I then switched to Wicklebee who finishes it off.
The next battle goes by fairly uneventfully, save for a tricky Marill. Then it's time for Cilan. I put Genesis in the lead and hope he sweeps. He uses all five Grass starters at level 12, plus a Pansage at level 14. I start the battle with a quick Hone Claws, while his Bulbasaur uses Leech Seed. Ugh. Not to worry, though. Apparently since he then rotated Bulbasaur out of the lead, Leech Seed wore off? No complaints.
Anyway, I then proceed to one-shot all six of them with Acrobatics. Oh wait, no I don't! Pansage survives the initial hit, uses Work Up, Leech Seed does take effect all of a sudden, it recovers with an Oran Berry, uses Magical Leaf... CRITICAL HIT!
...but it's cool, Genesis survived with like 2HP and finished it off with another Acrobatics, and I win! The Trio Badge is mine, as well as TM83, Work Up.
Team: Pirateking, the female Oshawott, lv. 13; Bold; Tackle, Tail Whip, Water Gun, Focus Energy catastrofy, the female Zigzagoon, lv. 13; Calm; Cut, Growl, Sand-Attack, Headbutt Wicklebee, the female Purrloin, lv. 14; Careful; Fury Swipes, Sand-Attack, Assist, Faint Attack Genesis, the male Pansear, lv. 13; Rash; Scratch, Acrobatics, Incinerate, Hone Claws
I don't think it glitched, actually. I think it just doesn't kick in on turns the opponent faints, but since Pansage didn't go down in one hit, it activated.
