The injuries should be a blessing for the WWE: they don't have to spread their focus out building multiple Main Eventers. Now, they can build storylines for all of them and keep them relevant rather than trying to make everyone interesting.

I mean, you have Cena and Orton. They're established. You don't have to do anything with them. But guys like Punk, Ziggler, Bryan, etc. They've got the spotlight on them now, you've got to make them as interesting as possible, so that WHEN the injured guys come back they don't have to worry about them falling off a cliff.

And IMO that's a huge problem today when engaging the audience, especially casual viewers. If they're not buying into your main-eventers, they don't stick around.

And to go back to this point I was making, this is why it's AWESOME that Sheamus won the Rumble. Not having an angle has done him wonders, because he just keeps winning and winning consistently, and is entertaining in doing so, and that gets people over!

People genuinely get excited to see Sheamus, and now he'll be even more credible than before, even if his title match curtain-jerks WM.

I'm hoping that by Summerslam, we can count both Punk and Sheamus in that Cena/Orton tier of main-event-for-life.

Truth/Gabriel/Slater/Barrett/Show/Kofi/Brodus/Drew or something like that for MitB altho not as obvious for the obvious Barrett win.

What about Miz? I can't buy that Miz and Truth will be non-involved at WM.

They don't have main-event credibility,

i did list henry there man.
henry in his run had more main event cred than anybody. rey also occasionally gets the ME treatment, before getting the midcard treatment.

i mean the overall issue in the grouping there is age. rey isn't around much longer. neither is henry. nor kane. christian has a good couple years left in him and del rio's actually in his mid 30s, but he can definitely be a star for a couple years. punk's the real future there, and with him go dolph and cody especially - that guy's just 24. they have the right guys to build 'em, they're just needing to do it. orton and cena have been giving rubs to younger talent lately, even if it's not 100% clean. need more of this.

Do you know what they should do. They should try giving someone my THREE YEAR ROYAL RUMBLE PUSH.

It goes as follows.

Year one or two of someone's career, they can be face or heel, whatever.

1st Rumble: They come out relatively early with low expectations, and have a high number of scare moments but cling on for a LONG time, and eventually end up making the Final Four. Like they're there among three other huge names and get eliminated. The crowd will eat it up.

2nd Rumble: Depending on what has happened the previous year, they're starting to really get over. They maybe have a mid-card title when they come in (again, relatively early). THIS TIME they eliminate a lot of people, survive scares, and throughout the course of the match they legit look like they have a chance. They last until the FINAL TWO, and honestly the crowd should remember the previous year and be pulling for them. But they get eliminated by some other big star and are crushed because of it, setting up...

3rd Rumble: Start building them up the entire month before hand as a hot choice for winner, but also build up at least three other top possibilities. The worst thing ever for the Royal Rumble is when there is only ONE choice for winner because it just kills it. Have them be a face, and have them do a few promos remembering the previous two years. Have them mentally prepared for anything. And then ahve them draw number two or three. From here you pick your spots and your stories, and you have them make the final two with maybe the guy who eliminated them in year one. You have them win, and you have just created a star and a fantastic moment that everyone would love.

I literally had this happen to my e-fed character and it was the best.

The biggest concern I have is what happens when Cena/Rock ends. Cause I bet Cena goes right back into the WWE title hunt. Also I can easily forsee one of Punk/Cena going to Smackdown and one of Orton/Sheamus coming back to Raw. And as much as I would love it to be Cena on Smackdown to change things up I know that will not be the case.

Basically I'm worried that they'll go back to the standard Cena's title thing and everything will revert.

"Main-event treatment before getting the midcard treatment" is exactly my point.

Would you be shocked if by June, Mark Henry is a midcarder again? I wouldn't be!

Henry's feud with Orton was the same as Punk's feud with Cena in that it was a strong start to a main-event push that could really get someone over long-term.

The difference is that Punk continued to look super strong once he got through that Trips/Nash detour and back to the title scene.

Henry...was never shown to be able to handle Big Show.

Henry has lost a lot of steam since October, and some of it is injury and the focus on Bryan over him, but a lot of it is the fact that he can't beat Big Show now when back in July he dominated him.

Big Show really ruins everything as a face.

When you take him down when he's a heel, it's a big accomplishment and can push a person the right way.

When you take him on as a face, they always seem reluctant to make him look weak. Therefore he goes up against "Hall of Pain" Mark Henry and dominates him in the feud.

This is a very legit worry, when they have such a massive opportunity to turn Cena heel.

ESPECIALLY if the crowd reacts positively to Rock beating him, or negatively to him beating Rock (unlikely).

I think Rock can go over Cena and have it be a good thing for the company, in all total honesty.

Cena: "I give my blood. My sweat. My EVERYTHING day in and day out, and that movie star comes back and what do you do? You cheer for him over me.

You know what? Kane was right. I think it's time I start picking something else to embrace."

i'd be surprised if henry was a midcard by june, yeah. same way kane hasn't dropped from his ME-level status since his epic title run, neither will henry. these guys performed fantastically at carrying a show that they won't drop that way again.

and henry's feud with orton differed from punk/cena in a very clear way: henry beat orton twice straight. no interference, no gimmicks, nothing. just straight up beat him.

show's always panned a monster for better or worse. though he's just about always lost to cena he's at least put in a similar category to the guy. they've certainly feueded enough to match it. i mean come on, even wae barra and nexus/corre was this - cena was the big man of raw, show is the big man of SD. it's not weak to have issues with show. nobody cleanly beats him down. i do agree that i miss henry's full on dominance of the guy, but i don't think he's really looked worse for wear at all without a logical explanation, like his ankle injury.

Jak, I would like to address your "roster is thin at the top" thing though. Let's compare to when the WWE was actually good, say, attitude era?

After WM in 1998, as far as I can tell (and I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong on this) there were a whopping TWO people on the active roster who had EVER been champion. Austin (current) and Taker (former). Over the course of the next two years they'd go on to add a whopping four more: Kane (for about a minute), Rock, Foley, and HHH.

Let's compare to today. I'm going to try and list all the "former world champions" currently on the active roster. I'm sure I'll miss at least one because there's so many.

Cena
Orton
Miz
Christian
Rey
ADR
Swagger
Kane
Punk
Jericho
Mark Henry
Big Show

and that's not even including the guys "on the edges" who aren't really active but could be called upon to do a match if needed: Khali, Booker, HHH, Taker, etc. Also not counting Dolph's completely illegitimate reign.

Sure, some of this is due to two titles, some is due to crappy MITB booking, but I think in all honesty, every one of those guys (except possibly Swagger) COULD, with the proper booking, be a main-event level star and dominate at the very top of the card.

Yep, the roster was very thin at the top in 1998 too, thinner than it is now. I'm not denying that there's a crapload of TALENT today, just that there's no one outside of Cena/Orton/Punk who has been positioned as "Well this guy is clearly dominant, anyone who conquers them must be pretty incredible" the same way that Austin conquered Bret, HBK, and Taker. Whenever someone like Wade or Del Rio gets any momentum, they get it all swept out from under their feet before they can solidify it.

Split brands in 1998 would have been awful.

(you forgot Big Show on your list of new World Champs over the next 2 years [and Vince but that's Vince])

Of course, every name you listed today COULD be positioned as a strong main-eventer. That's what they're working on now with CM Punk, and they're doing a good job thus far, Triple H hiccup aside. But you're right, it takes strong, consistent booking, which is not something WWE is known for.
