Just all the videos I have seen point to it being a legit awesome game without a lot of the things I dislike about MMO's.

I'll have to see more of this one before taking a decision.

I mean the last japanese MMO based a popular franchise kinda blew hard.

And it's also made by SE.

lack of immersion
generally boring mechanics (hotkeys)
lack of options

You're kinda right, it doesn't have any of that!

Well there are hotkeys but using skills without hotkeys would kinda be hard.

Though in GW2 they aren't targeted so if you use an attack skill and there's nothing in front of you you're gonna hit nothing. Combat is more actiony in that regard, also a dodge button.

I think that's pretty non-unique among MMOs. There's no way I would've played WoW for 4 years if I hadn't made good friends to play with.

I haven't played it that much, I had so much trouble getting a damn account (SE can't handle subscription at all, they always use complicated as **** systems) because of those security features that it kinda soured my interest in the title.

I played it last year though so it wasn't at its best, I don't even recall seeing another player.

Honestly it kinda reminded me of FFXIV but with more polish and worse graphics.

MMO's communities peak very early. If you dont play an MMO from beta through the first 2ish years of the game....you wont enjoy the game as much.

As much as everyone only cares about "rushing to the max level", the journey getting there is often time more fun and people don't realize it till they are the max level. This was especially common for WoW players imo.

You get inundated with skills in a lot of MMOs. Nearly every skill has use in some situation and clicking skills is slow, inefficient, and unfun, thusly you bind them to keys. However, the amount of binds that are necessary gets in the way. As a Rogue in WoW, I had almost 40 binds for various skills and macros. `. 1-7, F1-5 R, T, F, G, V, B, H, T, Y, middle mouse, as well as an additional 16 from using shift as a modifier for all the aforementioned numbers and letters. This barely managed to cover all my skills, even with re-using binds for skills that only are usable by certain specs. And that was as a class without the necessity to control a pet and the pet macros that went along with that, along with the relative lack of necessity in terms of special macros for crowd control. Playing as a competitive PvP Hunter/Warlock means over 50 macros easy, sometimes over 60-even if you aren't one of those people that feels the need to make a macro and bind for using pet sacrifice on each individual person on your team. It takes a long time to learn all the binds, and often requires keyboards or mice with extra buttons. It's especially bad for people with smaller hands-many can't reach as far as 7 or F5, not to mention a lot of other keys if you try and use control as a modifier with them.

TL;DR: In MMOs, you get a s***ton of skills and they need to be bound if you're going to be any good. However, there are way too many god damn skills for a reasonable person to bind.

Oh, I knew what hotkeys were; I just didn't understand the complaints about them. Probably because I literally never saw anything that was more descriptive than "lol hotkeys are bad." It seemed like people were complaining about their very existence which was confusing. But if it's hotkey overload that people that people are complaining about... yeah I can definitely understand that.
