Not only does Greedo shoot first, but Han doesn't shoot at all. Greedo's shot reflects off the wall, effectively shooting himself.

It makes perfect sense now that I realize it. But he just looks really young for how I envision a 67-year-old. He was around 50 in my mind for my entire life.

it seems like what he's missing is that the movies belong to the fans just as much as him. he's free to revise them and fans are free to dislike those revisions. on something like that you've gotta be open to fan feedback, and the feedback here was a pretty universal "just leave it alone, it was great how it was."

everyone would still think he's a genius if he just left his original work alone

What's really going to happen:

"Well, umm, I didn't really retire, I always planned to retire at 67, then come back a few years later to make the new release of the movies more like my original vision."

edit: wow, I just realized that Lucas is doing the exact same thing Miyamoto's doing. (Stop working on big movies/games, work on smaller ones)

I would love to see Star Wars sequels with another director/producer.

And I feel a tiny bit bad for him, but he did do this to himself. I think he would have saved himself a lot of hatred if he made the original versions widely available in addition to the recuts.

I'm probably the only one here sad about this.

For all the hatred he gets, I still appreciate what he did for creating Star Wars. And I can forgive his mistakes because that easily trumps anything else he's ever done.

Although perhaps as one final potshot, Lucas should do something that renders all the Star Wars books to be canonically impossible.

They need to release another Star Wars Blu-Ray, but this time identical to the originals in every way except for the minor, good changes (like cleaning up lightsaber special effects) and maaaaaybe adding in the originally deleted scene with Biggs and Luke. Vader's new NOOOO needs to go, as does the Hayden Christiansen ghost.

No, Han and Greedo agree to resolve their dispute via third-party arbitration, which involves a long and detailed court session with much political wrangling on both sides.

So much disrespect to a man who gave you so many things you love, it is quite pathetic of fans. It is one thing to not like the changes (and god knows quite right) but without him none of it even happens. If you create something awesome, you generally are allowed to screw it up later without too much heat because the originals still exist. No one can be awesome forever, poor george.

Didn't they stop making new copies of the originals and they don't include the original versions on the new Blu-Rays with the terrible changes?

Lucas lost sight of what was important. A filmmaker is nothing without people to appreciate his art, and he got to a point it was more about him rather than them. If he could have just stayed how he was when I was growing up, that'd just be okay. Thanks George for all you've done despite all of that, and for what you've given me and countless others.

Of course you do work for yourself. There's no point in doing a work you're not satisfied with. Super special secret time, Spiral: the ultimate dream of every last creative person in the planet is to work on their art without anybody harassing them, without budget constraints, and with absolute freedom to do whatever the hell they like. Fans are people who are invited to take a peek into the author's inner world. The author shouldn't have to beg for the fans to feed him, nor listen to their incessant whining, nod, and do as they say, because 99% of the time, fans don't know what they want. It's one thing to draw constructive criticism from fans, but fans tend to just rage like little kids, not do anything of the sort.

Reality check; he wouldn't be where he is without those people. The harsh reality is that despite whatever vision you have, often times you have to compromise. The difference is later in his life he has so much money he can focus on just what he wants, but he shouldn't have been surprised by the negativity that came as a result of it.

Naturally. But the thing is, George Lucas hasn't changed. I really should just post a link to the original ANH script and leave it at that, but the George we see today is exactly the same guy from way back when. The only difference is his circumstances. Lucas is basically John Romero, minus the ego and delays. Why are you acting like he's ever been different?

Time changes people. He doesn't need to satisfy anyone, he's made a name for himself. People should be lining up just to attach his name to a film, let alone him offering creative input. It's not the same position in when he was young though; he no longer has to think about pleasing the fans nearly as much, it's his vision. He's made that much clear, and while that's not a bad thing, he couldn't expect everyone to be on board with it. Are people ungrateful for all he's done? Absolutely, they need to pull the stick out of their asses.
