From: Liwakip | #048 There's a very good reason why Sonic Heroes is considered part of the Dreamcast Era in Generations and not Shuffle, and it has nothing to do with the definition of the 6th generation of consoles.
Don't hate
The real reason is that Sonic Team didn't make Sonic Shuffle

I think people mean competitive and not co-op when they're talking about this. could be wrong though. at least that's the impression I got when we talk about Mario Party/Mario Kart/Timesplitters/etc.
brawl is actually pretty good four player, I've never had a problem with doubles, it's 1v1 where you really get into "wow this is a terrible game" pretty frequently
I still play lots of Halo and sports titles with friends locally, sometimes fighting games too. There are still lots of great games that you can play locally this generation, but most people prefer to play online.
-- you just can't live in that negative way...make way for the positive day
Competitive genres are pretty easy to get local multiplayer for. It's a given for fighters and racers, and most shooters I think. Co-op is what's suffered the most this gen.
Local co-op, that is. Online co-op is doing moderately okay.
The best multiplayer experience I've ever had was on the Gamecube. Pac Man VS. Now this game isn't the easiest to set up. You need 3 Gamecube controllers (Wavebird preferred) and a Gameboy Advance + GBA to GC link so you can use it as a controller. However, the sheer joy and super competitive experience of three ghosts teaming up to take out Pac Man...only to have one ghost betray to grab a fruit for increased vision or decide that they are the one who will get the kill to become Pac Man the next turn is legendary.
When my brother came over for the holidays, I just stared at my PS3 collection, and I literally just had LittleBigPlanet, Borderlands, and a bunch of fighting games. The first two I've beaten a dozen times already.
Encouraged me to go out and buy Uncharted 3, and damn the splitscreen on that is dreadful.
There's soooo many games that have online and everything, but they completely ditch local play, it's annoying as helllll.
I'm trying to come up with the reason why the gamecube is better than the wii and the only one I can come up with is if your friends are really into melee
64 > Wii > Cube when it comes to local multiplayer
Halo parties were the highlight of my high school years, even if I made a total ass of myself once or twice. I never owned an XBox, but I might as well have with as much Halo as I played. Halo 2 multiplayer was so amazing, and the map pack that eventually came out was just as stellar.
Of course, I also had blasts with Melee and Double Dash, so GameCube was indeed amazing for local.
From: muddersmilk | #046 Psycho_Kenshin posted... Brute force.... good... I dunno about thattt (Christopher Walken voice)
It was a fun game to play with four people. I never tried it single player.
This is the first I've heard of anybody else having ever played Brute Force. The similarities continue to pile up. A couple of cousins and I powered through that game after renting it once. Good fun.
Eh, the Wii still has some fun local multiplayer. I've played four player New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and they were both fun. That's not a lot, but it's something. And it's probably telling that the Wii is the one current gen console that has really weak online multiplayer.
I think the only four player local multiplayer I've played on the other current-gen systems has been the NHL series, and some XBLA games that were built for local multiplayer. Things are pretty bad, yeah.

When my friend and I gather we pretty much only play MKWii (We would play Brawl is not for the fact that the majority of them think it's '' too fast '' and can't follow what's happening on the screen), I've got a bunch of 2 players Wii games that I played with my dedicated gaming bro (DKCR and Kirby's Epic Yarn mainly).
One of the best fun I ever had co-op is Trauma Center, this game's hilarious with 2 players.

From: shadosneko | #075 To be fair, the PSN version has it.
it's also implemented pretty poorly. Should have been split-screen but instead it's just the one screen, so if everyone is spread out (which you almost have to at times) it zooms so far out you can't see s***

Although I did play Halo Anniversary 4-player XBL in 1 room less than a week ago. That was pretty great, but mostly because all 4 of us were in the same room.
The Wii. Say what you will about everything else, it's one of the best consoles for local multiplayer. It has equivalents for pretty much everything the Gamecube has, as well as much more. It wins for sheer quantity and variety when compared to the Gamecube.

Love my Wii, but seriously gotta disagree. Wii absolutely does not have any equivalents for GameCube's best, aside from Smash Bros.

Yes. The option to have backseat drivers in DD, letting less skilled racers piggyback along while still providing a fun and important part of the game (item control, mainly) is huge. DD was far more played by my circle of friends than Wii because of this; Wii just isn't as fun for the clearly inferior racers. (Not to mention DD is the better game anyway!)

Mario Kart, and... The Gamecube didn't have much else!
From: Mer_Mer_Yes_Mer | #402 the Wii is plagued by oversimplification and gimmicky bull****.
I always get a chortle whenever people bust out the "gimmick" accusation. Gimmicky or no (gimmick isn't even a negative, I hope you realise) Wii Sports is tough to beat when it comes to local multiplayer fun.

you'd really have to stretch it for Goldeneye or something
Goldeneye>Timesplitters. Besides, Timesplitters was multiplatform.

Okay, I forgot about this one. Excellent game. Very difficult to actually do though. Same goes for Crystal Chronicles (the most underrated Final Fantasy).
