To be honest though, it's such a non-spoiler. When I learned Bacon/Simon had another name I was all "... so?" If the real Roger were prominent in the first half of the game it would be different!

Or maybe if I'd played Koudelka, but even then, presumably I'd notice right away that this new Roger looked and talked nothing like the old!

man, SH1 has the most ridiculous vibration ever. I just put the controller on my cat and he hasn't forgiven me yet.

I love the save and logo that the game gives you when Europe ends. it feels like you're supposed to change CDs.

atmosphere-blow up is a really awesome track. Europe time!

new game+. I like SH's ng+ because it's not too broken - you still have to have enough SP to fuse into everything.

I don't really get NG+. SH1 is already pretty easy, why make it easier? NG+ made a lot of sense in the days before we had Youtube so it could basically function as a plot-focused replay, but now I don't really see the point.

Of course it's a popular feature, so I'm probably just weird and not getting something.

SH1 isn't broken like other ng+s. I would never use it for SH2, for example. plus I love that stupid Score feature in SH1 and like to compare my playthroughs. SH1 ng+ also removes some hassle like having to fight each fusion monster or being able to wipe out packs of enemies with level 2 fusions quickly.

man, I've been thinking about SH2. Karin is totally useless. she has almost no plot relevance - Ana probably has more - but somehow seems like a female lead. I like her okay but sheesh. you could remove her from the game and nothing would really change besides the crazy ending.

I disagree totally, Karin is a key figure to the narrative. Yuri is largely seen through her eyes. One of the big themes of SH2 is love that is not to be, and her own story is certainly a key facet of that theme. I really don't see how you can consider her anything less than the second most important PC.

Also the best female lead in the series, but this isn't that great an accomplishment!

I haven't played the game in 6ish years, so probably not much, but it's a pretty strong impression I got. Maybe the scenes from her perspective just stick with me more. Pretty rare for a story to go inside the dream of a character who isn't a "main" character, for instance. Also Yuri's whole introduction.

Best scene in SH1 is probably the cannibal village or something. I dunno, not much from SH1 really sticks with me writing-wise, I'm afraid.

Yeah, it's the best part. Yuri basically overcoming everything and then taking it to Fox Face was great.

Plus, it resulted in the new Fusion animation, which made me mark out the first time I saw it.

the dialogue is so uninspired though.

my favorite part of SH1 is either the mental hospital, Simon showing up in Rouen or the intro. cup of tea d'oh is good too.

SH1's dialogue in general is pretty meh, at least to me. Feels like it's poorly translated a lot of the time and they didn't really get what the writers were going for.

yeah I agree to a certain extent but it's rarely that bland. normally it has some charm instead of just being kinda embarrassing.

Fox Face fight sucks too. oh well, Yuri is back and it's time for some awesome.

the bathroom scene totally freaked me out back in the day. never understood why. it just caught me off-guard big-time.

SH1's ending best part of the game. Also, the scene that plays after you trigger the good ending is also nice. Mental Hospital is the best area in the game, though.

SH2's best part is probably Amon/Rasputin. Ishimura is close but I hate how the US version is edited. it had a lot more impact when he was bleeding.

SH2 definitely wins in the awesome moments category.

oh right these games, yuri the best.

SH1 was okay, besides albert simon and alice being good characters I don't really remember a lot about it though! SH2 was excellent, besides some of the dungeons being kind of boring I really can't think of any faults with it and it's definitely one of my favorite PS2 games.

still need to play 3, I should probably get that done soon because the last time I used my PS2 it was acting up a bit.

xs3's only flaw (aside from its plot being rushed and forced to tie up a bunch of loose ends) was its overly simplified battle system. it's good that it wasn't a headache like XS2's, but by the second to last dungeon battles just become a chore
