It always feels weird to me when people refer to Mega Man games as platformers, because to my gut reaction, they're action games.

Yoshi's Island so much better. A prime contender. Yoshi's Island is exceptional, and happens to excel in many of the same areas as DKC2, namely beautiful aesthetics, great music, and masterful level design. If I was nitpicking, I could accuse YI of being collect-a-thony at times. Although I always "LOL" when people try to justify their video game opinions by saying it's "objective." Anyone who knows me knows that I'm using that word ironically. here's some platformers I think are better than DKC2
Super Mario Bros 3 Super Mario World Donkey Kong Country Sonic 1 Sonic 2 Sonic 3 & Knuckles Ristar Rocket Knight Adventures RKA and DKC2 are pretty close, I could actually go either way on those two. The rest I'm sure I like more. All of these games are really good though. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I played DKC 1 when I was 8 or 9, and DKC 2 when I was 20. that might be all it is.

oh if we're counting 3D platformers, list opens up a bit.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 Crash 3 Warped Spyro 1 and 3 Jak and Daxter 1 Ratchet & Clank GC and UYA those are some 3D platformers that are of comparable quality to the stuff discussed ITT already ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'd argue that DKC has a better soundtrack on the whole; while DKC2's best music is better than DKC's best music, its worst music worse. The original Country also has a completely different feel and look, which some might prefer. I like DKC2's soundtrack more on the whole but I do have to say DKC has much better credits music, it kind of irked me that DKC2's credits was one of the few songs on the soundtrack I really didn't like much because anything related to a games ending is part of your final impression of it, it sticks with you the most(wind waker is a perfect example, most of the game is crap but it's garnered a pretty strong following because it's structurally sound, it bombards you with the good stuff at the very end)
