From: X_Dante_X | #150 What? I can't even imagine mercs without Infra, the entire framework of the game was <supposed> to be about economy, and defeating teams to better your own.
Economy is good
The infra system as-is is why the game would've borked itself even with competent admins
I'd have rather been my own entity, and for most everyone else to be too.
I worked pretty hard on my team, y'know! Even if it was a patchup job from Shake leaving.
Though yeah, now more than ever I agree with FFD's view. Even just by view, seems things polarized to a stupid degree so likewise I'd say no more numbers, me, drak, or silver as leaders and no admin Wang (though voter or whatever's fine, same as early Kan was).

Also lost through all of this was my original mission statement: I just wanted to make the Playoffs and not completely do terrible. That got lost through all of my forceful arguments and the bloodshed I caused. So hey me and drak both accomplished our goals that's nice.

I would endorse a player voting ban. I personally think it's impossible to not be a bit biased in your voting since the outcome of the match will eventually affect your team.
but to do that we'd have to abolish most of the 'voting restrictions' so we can attract more fresh voters. I wouldn't mind this but I can see how some people would oppose it.
We should have a PLAYER SURVEY to gather people's thoughts on this. (and other things)
Solution: start with much more low tech gunners next time.
crash for m4 obv. fruit bazooka don't mess
The problem isn't gunners per se, it's generic gunners -- the GTA guys, Marcus Fenix, Leon/Chris, Liquid, the Doomguys. They're all humans with fairly standard weaponry (adjusted for the technology level of the setting) and little more. A few of them are probably acceptable as "iconic" but we were oversaturated with guys like Captain Scott Mitchell.
On the other hand, we've had some pretty interesting hybrid gunners. Aigis was neat, though I maintain she's substantially overrated. Aya would probably have been neat if she'd seen more than like two matches. Same for Lilith.

I nuked Dante because of you and that basically was a death knell for his team in the round robin. I always pay my debts, Numbers!

I was actually thinking about this on the drive home - a player ban would definitely eliminate a lot of bias, but in low voting pools, "conspiracy meshes" will always prevail. I'd personally be cool with less voting restrictions in general if it resulted in higher votals, because if you ban all players from voting and only 5 valid people vote, the guy who has 3 friends will always win regardless.

I was actually discussing that with HGR this morning. Voter restrictions are just bad. How about we foster a mercs where players are actually held accountable. Let them have to give reasons and let the reasons have to actually hold up to scrutiny. Let admins have power to openly question a vote and ask for more and more reasoning. If you are a player there is no reason for this not to be acceptable. The days of shady votes have to be over, frankly.

More like you outtanked him. Your chief ability isn't your wits, Drak - it's your grit. You're very clever, but you're even more of a determinator in the end.

Problem: We get a single Wanglike admin and it all goes to hell. I know, I know, 'get better admins', but this means you're asking the admins to not be biased AND play even more than the players, two highly taxing requests.
Pfft, reality shredding itself is such a weak excuse numbers gotta step your game up.
Heh, mercs was terrible in so many ways but it still managed to amuse me. I was cracking up for an hour over Drak's journal.

Then they can quit being admins. I don't care what is taxing for them. Get the game right or don't bother. Those are the options. If you don't want to bother fixing it then don't waste your time adminning it. They should go grow a garden or write a book.

I agree about the gunners. I barely voted all game and I STILL got tired of all the generic gunners running around.
I also still say we need to bring back character explanations. I would've voted a lot more if I could've done so without waiting for somebody to post youtube links so I could figure out who the hell most of the people were. If you want to increase turnout, I'd say that would be a big step.

Also Rudy wasn't generic tbqh.
What helps me sleep at night is reading how much effort you put into this game to beat someone who had barely followed mercs, who at every turn antagonized everyone he could just because I wanted to do so. At the onset I never dreamed I could beat you, but at the start reading your journal it was clear you feared me for, really, no good reason. It is nice to know I was inside your head so early. I got more validation from your journal than I ever could have actually winning Mercs given the blatant corruption of so many elements. So I rest easy and I feel victorious. If you feel victorious, well, that makes two of us I suppose.

i've always wanted the blanket player and admin ban - the only problem is getting casuals to vote (and it's bad if it's only a few casuals, since then the leaders can play tug-of-war with them)
no one 'wanglike' is going to be allowed anywhere near the next run ---

Let's put it this way. Name five people you think would stick to the admin job who would be thorough about it and are still interested in mercs. Five. You can count yourself since being generous here is OK.
Also poor me I was such a fool. I underhyped Rudy because I assumed Numbers had to be lying because the admins clearly wouldn't release someone like that so early.
I am sorry Numbers.

I don't have a quick answer for that. But mercs isn't going to be fixed by quick answers.
This is very simple. You install a system where an admin can be deposed. You know, the thing that's been called for for donkey's years, but was never implemented. If an admin wants a pet team then they risk the consequences.
to be fair, rudy had a much shorter shelf-life due to his early release. like, just to throw out numbers, he was viable from day 17-35, when his usefulness span should have been up until day 45 or so. but he was out for so long that some of the luster wore off and the 'he was released so long ago, what can he do here?' mentality crept in.

This I can get behind. What amount of leaders would have to agree to impeach? 2/3+1?
