The Rules:

-Matches will last exactly 24 hours. Votes after that much time has elapsed will not be counted, even if a new topic hasn't gone up yet.
-This is a contest to determine which character is the most *powerful*. Vote only for the character you think would win in a fight, not the one who's funnier, cooler, or sexier. If you don't do that I can't count your vote.
-BOLD YOUR VOTE. Unbolded votes will NOT be counted.
-Rallying is allowed. Alts are not.
-Fights will take place in a neutral terrain. This does not necessarily mean a *featureless* terrain: assume that both characters will have a chance to use all of their skills to the fullest here, barring setting-specific abilities and anything that requires the presence of multiple enemies (but see below).
-Characters start the fight alone. They don't bring allies with them, like Kerrigan and the Zerg Swarm for instance. Summons are allowed though, provided they're brought once combat has started.
-Fighters retain their usual personalities. They won't fight to kill unless that's their MO, and won't spam their best attacks to win unless, again, that's how they act in their original media.
-Similarly, fighters are unaware of their opponents capabilities at the start of the fight unless their powers facilitate them information (like knowing all there is to know in the universe - this would include who the opponent is and what he can do, as well as weaknesses)
-You don't have to justify your vote, but it helps. If you feel like you can add something to the debate, go right ahead!
-Seriously, BOLD THE VOTE. So important it bears repeating.
-Bracket Link, for viewing past results and future matches:

Past Results:
The uninterrupted battle between Yuki Nagato and Goku was never in doubt. It wasn't a mercy, but Yuki won with room to spare. Votals: 21-26

Meanwhile, Evangeline crushed Megas XLR with ease. Thus ends Round 2. Votals: 5-12

(4) Lord Foul
external image
Lord Foul the Despiser is the primary antagonist of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. An ancient and seemingly immortal being, he traveled the universe planting evil powers said to be capable of tearing planets apart so that later beings would find them and destroy themselves until the Creator was able to defeat him, and establish the Arch of Time to seal him away in The Land, a single continent. Foul possesses incredibly powerful magical abilities, enough that at full power, direct combat against him would likely cause enough damage to destroy the world. In addition to using his powers for direct destructive means, Foul and those he empowers have used a variety of indirect abilities including manipulating the weather, resurrecting shades of the dead, and summoning creatures that induce extreme fear in all who witness them, though these abilities generally require time to use.

Foul has an inherent power over the undead, able to perfectly enslave any who violate the Law of Death. In addition, his nature as equal and opposite to the Creator means that he cannot be defeated by any power not guided by free will, and attempts to carry artifacts containing mere fractions of his power inevitably corrupt the bearers into serving his will. Though he is apparently immortal, sufficient force directed against him or he himself utilizing all the power at his disposal can nonetheless leave him powerless for many centuries at a time.

(7) Yusuke Urameshi
external image
From YuYu Hakusho, Yusuke Urameshi is the teenage protagonist, a “Spirit Detective.” Yusuke’s most common technique is the Spirit Gun, an energy beam which can be projected from small shot to a full-sized cannon blast from his index finger; when reborn as a half-demon, Yusuke upgrades this to the Demon Gun, which is more powerful and can be used so long as he has demon energy.

Yusuke also has other ranged attacks, such as the Shotgun, which fires widespread shots, and Spirit Gun Rapid Fire, which fires all the blasts of his gun rapidly. He can also attack physically with the Spirit Light Bullet, which turns his entire body into a Spirit Gun.

So I'm going to want to be reminded of how powerful Yusuke's energy attacks are (seriously, why does his write up mention various ways of using the same basic attack he has but not anything about how powerful they are?) and how durable he is and susceptible to various indirect attacks like illusions and such. Based on past matches I remember thinking he'd probably have the offense to beat Foul with a prolonged assault, so how long he could keep it up is important.

Unless Yusuke has crazy output (and I'll admit, I don't know) I don't see how he really beats Foul here

I'll switch if arguments come up for Yusuke though.

Yes, that's about the strength of his blasts.

He is more known to have some good stamina, but I don't think that's enough to even do anything in this battle.

Though all the powers of Lord Foul, he suffers from a bad bad bad effect: antagonist. That means, he was already defeated, by the protagonist of his series.
And villains do tell more than actions.
Yusuke has reborn, became the lord of the underworld, and is the protagonist. That gives him a +10 Will when he's losing. (because he will start losing, given all the powers of Lord).

However, there is another side to the protagonist/antagonist duality, which is that a truly great hero must suffer defeat before he can overcome a great adversity. Lord Foul certainly qualifies as great adversity, and his plans tend to create defeat after defeat for his foes until the very end. Is Yusuke a great hero? I don't know, but according to your post I assume he must be, and thus I submit to you that good story telling dictates that in this, their first meeting, Yusuke is obligated to lose in order to further his own character arc. Lord Foul thus wins the day

It most likely would be a fight between Many Spirit Gun shots while Foul tries to summon creatures... if Yusuke could destroy Foul in the time period before the summonings, it would go to him, if not, Foul...

EDIT: Also, isn't it within Yusuke's character to start with a melee game to see how it goes? Well, doubt he'd do as such against a guy that looks like a ghost, maybe...

I can't imagine Foul would summon anything unless there had been serious distance created first. He's only ever really done it personally off-screen (bringing back Elena and the giant Raver that had killed the Seareach giants) and the Ravers have only done it in siege situations. No doubt he could pull it off himself since he gave them the power to do it in the first place (he created the Illearth Stone and all) but it's not an immediate process and he's not an idiot.

Lord Foul.

Going by this part right here:

Foul has an inherent power over the undead, able to perfectly enslave any who violate the Law of Death.

Yusuke was dead when the series started off, though the first story arc focused on him earning his resurrection. Towards the end of the series, he died again, only to come back again, this time thanks to his latent demonic heritage, which REALLY surprised everyone. If the first incident didn't violate the law of death, the second almost certainly does. Advantage goes to Lord Foul...

The phrasing "any who violate the Law of Death" suggests this extends beyond the undead (and could be read to include the necromancer as well as the zombie). Perhaps a clarification of what counts as a "violation" is in order?

The main example of it happening is when someone tried to call for a dead guy to be brought back to help fight the war. He came back, told her she should banish him immediately before Foul caught on, and then Foul took control of him (from a continent's length away, even). Didn't come back as a standard "come back in your exact body" revival (he was basically a giant magical shape), but then Foul himself brought someone back in that kind of way to control her. It's less about being undead and more about having come back from the dead.

Also to head off the argument before it starts, the Law of Death is a specific thing of sorts in the setting, but having the various laws (including the broken ones, since Foul is at his best when that one is broken) is actually closer to neutral terrain than ignoring them, since taking away the various things that limit him in his own series makes him go into unquantifiable weird zone and become too big a headache for this contest <_< "Foul without one law" is a lot better than removing all influence of his setting and getting "Foul who flew around the universe ****ing up worlds and trapping stars in the sky and weird ****"
