We don't really get the full slice of the pie anymore, these days they'll build a game around a simple gimmick because its easy to describe and easy to sell. Id even argue that the new trend of consoles having tons of western games is a bad idea, since PCs have been doing western games since the early 90s very well for the most part. Why play morrowind/oblivion/Fallout 3 on a xbox when you can play it on the PC so much better? I dont like the trend of consoles being mostly western style games, i think consoles are trying to compete with PCs now, which is silly considering that these consoles are close to 5-6 years old now...and most people's PCs are maybe 3-4 years old max. Horror games are also in decline (Silent Hill is crap now, so is Resident Evil, Fatal Frame IV JPN only, probably over....). The reality is that jRPGs don't make enough profit to warrant HD home console releases anymore. Portable releases have a much smaller budget. The reason why Final Fantasy XIII took a decade to be released (and Versus will take another decade...). On handhelds though? Crisis Core, Dissidia, Dissidia 2, Type-0, TA2, FF1 remake, FF2 remake, FF3 remake, two FFIV remakes.... list goes on. EDIT: Ah, hell! The most recent, obvious example of this: Valkyria Chronicles (PS3); Valkyria Chronicles 2(PSP); Valkyria Chronicles 3(JPN only)! -- We may have years, we may have hours.
