It was dying slowly ever since the 3DS release, sure
But there were last 2 gems - "Kirby Mass Attack" and "Professor Layton and the Last Specter",which was released 3 days ago

No more DS games that are worth waiting for...the last hopes are-
Can Modern Warfare 3 somehow be good on the DS (a FPS being good on DS? meh, guess not)
Will Capcom get a brain and localize AAI2?
Will Nintendo create "Pokemon Grey" and release it to the DS?

All of these are unrealistic....
So,goodbye the Nintendo DS,I will miss you :(

Pokemon Gray getting announced soon is actually pretty likely, though it remains to be seen whether it will be 3DS or DS

There is absolutely no way they release a Pokémon Grey on the DS. Zero chance. The DS will have had no releases for nearly a year by that time, and they will move it to the 3DS to sell 3DSes.

Grey is going to be 3DS exclusive, I can feel it.

Crystal did this, with GS being on Game Boy and then Crystal being on Game Boy Colour. I am hoping for it to be a 2d game with some 3d functionality, so it'll still work on the normal DS.

I wouldn't count on Grey being on the DS.

Then again, this E3 Nintendo did say they'll be running the Wii/Wii U and DS/3DS along side each other, supporting each.......... but looking at what they're doing for the Wii when U isn't even out yet, I think it's pretty safe to say that won't be true.

GS was on the Game Boy Color too. I'm pretty sure it was one of those games that couldn't even be played on the original Game Boy, because I don't think they were still making games for the original Game Boy when GS came out. The only one they've ever done that with was Red/Blue predates the GBC --> Yellow was a GBC game that could still be played on an original Game Boy.

And yes, Crystal came out after the GBA was already out; Emerald came out after the DS was out--they've done that before. Grey will obviously be a DS game.

Unless they do a huge overhaul of the game (which they won't, this is GameFreak we're talking about), Grey will be on the DS. I'm sure Nintendo's marketing will point out that it can be played on the 3DS, and there will probably be some 3DS-only features, but it's not changing systems.

R/S remakes will, though. Most definitely.

Hey, I thought the PS2 was pretty much dead after God of War 2 in early '07, and then a year later BLAM, Persona 4.

But yes, most gaming systems tend to effectively perish pretty soon after their descendant is released.

Considering the 3DS can play DS games, why would they make it a 3DS-only title, when they could just make it a regular DS title which could be played on either system?

size constraints? internet differences (3DS has far better options for encryption types)? extra features with the game itself/gameplay modes? just plain add in the 3D too, if need be from the 3DS Pokedex that's already there?

It was a rhetorical question.

The 3DS has sold abysmally, especially when compared to the total lifetime sales of the DS. There's no way in bloody hell that Nintendo is going to split the an installment of one of their biggest selling franchises between two systems.

the 3ds sales have been pretty good since the drop, and it wasn't a simple 1 month period either as the following month showed an increase of sales in it. but it's only been 2 months of data we have (august, september) so there's not much to say outside of one month having a massive increase followed by the one afterwards having a notable increase to it as well. whether that's due to the drop, the holiday season, or the upcoming games aren't known - but combined they make the whole package.

mario 3d is already in walmart's top 20 games sold.
mario kart 7's already in best buy's top 45 games sold.

they both will only go up. the 3ds will go up with 'em. adding another Pokemon seems like a pretty fantastic idea honestly, especially with most of the work already done visually with the pokedex AND most of the game done there too. easy cash cow that'd work and test the waters. and is pokemon.

lol no. They're not going to split a game installment of one of their best-selling franchise to rope in a few thousand more 3DS sales. They're going to make it a DS game, so that they can sell the maximum number by appealing to both DS gamers and 3DS gamers.

They'll rope people into buying a 3DS with remakes, sequels, and new IPs as the generation continues.

...and wait, are you trying to knock the 3DS off by saying it's not with the same sales as the DS?

if so, you're dead wrong. it might even manage to surpass the DS before October ends for where it is in its lifetime compared to where the DS was in its lifetime. the price drop was huge for 'em and basically had them cut into the million and a half lead the DS had on it hard. you'll of course see the news as soon as it breaks. said news will without a doubt break before their holiday lineup even hits. it has absolutely no problem beating the DS down there and utterly shattering its lifetime placement before the year's over.

I gotta say, the DS was an incredible system. I think it's the best handheld since the original Game Boy - though the system's technical specs quickly aged, the game library itself was outstanding, in terms of both first and third party support.

I think the 3DS has a lot of potential too, so hopefully developers begin to harness it. Right now, there's nothing that makes me want to buy the system, but that could change easily; how about a sequel to Contact, Atlus?

"Third pillar" was one of the most transparent marketing campaigns of all time. I still can't believe people thought Nintendo was serious - the GBA was clearly on its way out.

It because they didn't have full faith in the DS. No one did. Remember how everybody compared it to the Virtual Boy? Nintendo kept reassuring people that they were still working on the next Game Boy that wouldn't be as gimmicky, which was dropped once people began to realize the DS was awesome.

A lot of people expected the DS to underperform prior to its release, so Nintendo wanted to cover their asses in case their attempt to move away from the "Game Boy" line was unsuccessful.

Really though, how anyone expected the system to flop is beyond me. It was a Nintendo portable with a Mario game at launch - it would have been literally impossible for the system to fail.
