Oh, right, and I totally forgot to mention it - it's not even interp if Red can have Pikachu pull an aerial strike with Thunder - he has uses Poliwrath and Pikachu in tandem to create a cloud to bring lightning down before. So Aang is *definitely* getting hit from above when all the pokémon come out to play.

As for durability, the point I'm making is that at the level Red is at, super dangerous attacks are leveled at trainers often, and none of them are recognized as anything but human. Lance survives that attack in spite of being...well, just a guy.

Sorry, I edited my posted after you quoted it. I can see where you're coming from, for sure, but I still don't see it as conclusive evidence that he can tank Aang's offense if he directly targets Red with air and earth bending (Lopen already responded to this, I believe). If anything, the fact that Red was in pain and needed to block and cringe at those rocks being hurled at him implies that Aang should be able to take him out with earthbending, since the rocks he deals with seem a lot more massive.

with Red tanks the aftershock of the Psychoboost, a move so powerful it manages to leave his whole squad nearly dead in one blow, and so on and so forth. .

Probably going to need some context, here. It sounds impressive, for sure, but scans would help me out a lot more.

Gonna try and find some. For further context until then, we DO have an example of a complete freak of nature who tanks stuff he should have no business tanking: Guile Hideout. He takes on multiple squads at once and requires a massive concerted effort to defeat.

So uh

It wasn't indirect tanking.

Pretty nasty attack and even the preceding wave flung Red backwards (if that wasn't part of the actual attack). This is a more up-to-date example than Rhydon's rocks.

Dang that was more impressive than I remember it being, I didn't realize he was getting hit by it before his pokemon stepped in front of it.
This is why I find it hard to take debates like these seriously, even something simple like Red's durability is hard to pin down.

That's admittedly quite impressive.

Switch to abstain for now. His durability seems pretty hard to pin, so I'll await for Aang feats/showings before I continue, but he looks a lot less squishy than a completely normal human being.

Other showings of durability:

-Frozen solid for weeks. Survived. Also a showing of independence for the pokémon because Pikachu escaped to find someone who could help him.
-Kicked by Hitmonlee in the stomach. Is fine for the most part.
-Tortured by Lt. Surge. Survives.

There's more out there. I'll see if I can find them.

Yeah that is pretty impressive though I'm inclined to think it's more a "Heihachi durability" feat in that it's not that relevant for an actual fight cause while it didn't kill him it did wipe him out and it's questionable if he can regularly tank things like this or if it's just a fluke moment of sheer will. It's enough for me to not really know how the match goes, though. Depends heavily on whether Aang would enter the Avatar state before getting taken out and/or whether Aang dishes out enough punishment to knock out Red or if him holding back costs him. Before I didn't think holding back would matter but now I'm not so sure.

Don't really care enough to think too hard about that though. Aang is losing by enough that it's rather irrelevant for this match anyway. Change to abstain

It didn't wipe him out actually. His pokémon, yes, but he's still alive and conscious when backup arrives!

For fight purposes he's basically wiped out there. He may be conscious but you could finish him with a strong draft at that point based on the way he looks.

Also for what it's worth I do think the implication is that the Pokemon did help him avoid the full brunt of the blast seeing how he's suddenly behind a bunch of roasted Pokemon, though there is no doubt he got hit with it.

Yeah, this I agree with. Just pointing out the difference because the panel could lead to the assumption that he was KO'd outright with his team.

Well, as seen, once he views someone as a threat his bending gets tougher... such as if Red stands up to a few blows, Aang will follow it up with worse without giving Red much of a chance to issue orders... which is in truth part of his character...
