Speaking of 'ups', the first topic will go up at 6 PM EST, as I've crunched out writeups for all characters (If anyone wants to submit one for a character that isn't Mewtwo or IT, there's time until their first match though, so go right ahead)! Stay tuned, get ready, and GET HYPE.

Also, are the spells still subject to voter interpretation, or do we have what each spell does set?

I'd argue total interp, making his matches hilarious. Because they never had a clear definition in the first place, that was the whole point. I think I'll run the Randm Spell Tournament again after MPFC ends.

Richard Rahl is the Seeker of Truth, Lord Rahl, and the only War Wizard born in thousands of years rolled into one. As Seeker of Truth, he carries the Sword of Truth. The sword can cut through steel as easily as anything else, and can cut through many magical barriers. As he has mastered the weapon, he can draw on the experience of every person to ever wield the sword, making him a quintessential master of the blade. As a War Wizard, he is inexperienced, and is unable to purposely direct his own power except in times of great need. However, his abilities work almost solely on instinct, and he can draw it forth relatively easily when he needs to. His magic is generally used only to make blasts of raw destructive force, often in the form of twin lightning bolts, one made with additive magic (prettymuch a normal lightning bolt) and the other made with subtractive power (complete opposite of normal magic and matter, and is the power to utterly destroy) which can cut through any normal magic as if it wasn't there, and do much the same to matter itself. Also note that Richard has undergone extreme torture, and can ignore virtually any levels of pain.

Include them IMO. "Bringer of Death" spam! :P

PS: The first match might not go up right on cue at 6 PM tomorrow as I'll be a little busy. If you don't see the next match go up by 6:05, could anyone post Luke/Sovereign? Here are their writeups, just in case. Wouldn't want to delay the contest more than necessary.

(3) Sovereign
external image
From Mass Effect, the Sovereign is a massive dreadnaught ship, sapient and capable of mass destruction. Also known as Nazara, it is equipped with immensely powerful Mass Effect fields, strong enough to enable it to land on a planet without difficulty. The Sovereign is equipped with durable kinetic shields, capable of withstanding extremely heavy fire from other ships without suffering so much as a scratch. It is armed with a potent main gun mounted along its spine, capable of destroying dreadnaughts with a single shot, as well as other, lesser weapons. Its two-kilometer long body is crewed by Indoctrinated sapients, which are little more than a shell of their former selves. Notable among them is Saren Arterius, the rogue Spectre, a skilled warrior and biotic who has also been reprogrammed by Sovereign to be fanatically loyal to him. Should Saren die, the Sovereign is capable of reanimating him through his extensive cybernetic implants, using his corpse as a powerful host body.

(6) Luke Skywalker
external image
From Star Wars, Luke Skywalker is one of the most powerful Jedi Knights of all time. Able to tap into the Force, the life energy that permeates all things, Luke exhibits this connection through telepathic and telekinetic abilities. He fights with a lightsaber, an energy-based weapon that can instantly cut through most objects, in addition to both his natural and trained Force abilities.

Luke can use Force Sense to judge positions of objects and future movements of people; his Telekinesis has been so strong as to fight the pull of a miniature black hole and crush spaceships, as well as teleport objects around; his use of Force Defend was once described as rooting him in the center of the Force itself, becoming the essence of the immovable object; and his skill with a lightsaber allowed him to cut through countless warriors as well as Yuuzhan Vong Slayers, beings bred and trained solely to kill Jedi. His signature Electric Judgment move consists of green sparks that can disable or kill opponents instantly.

I'm not sure how I feel about Sovereign's write up implying having Saren at his side. The whole point of Saren was that he *wasn't* indoctrinated too deeply because doing so would make him less useful, so it really seems like he should be seen as a separate entity that is therefore not involved.

Pre-Virmire Saren, absolutely. Post-Virmire Saren is 99% committed to the cause. I don't see what difference it makes though, unless you think removing a weakpoint from Sovereign should be done.

comic characters don't really go through this, no. you get, at best, some differences interpretation of the character's levels, but personalities don't tend to change. and usually their powers are consistent. the complaint to them is more of one to do with history. it's that a lot have done everything and there's no real argument, just scans of 'he's done this, he's done that,' and comparisons made. inconsistency ain't the issue 9/10 times. everyone who knows them agree on what Superman is, on what Hal is, etc. those who don't end up getting a crash course in what the standard is.

<_<; which is only half of why that rule is silly and doesn't make a lick of sense.

Well most of his opponents have a severe weakness to being stabbed in the heart in an instant, or having their attacks turned back to them (or their allies)

Universe busting power. Can't be harmed by attacks because he can redirect anything that hits him back at you. Casually takes on a pair of world-busters and thrashes them, even oneshotting one of them with contemptuous ease. Goes on to destroy a solar system (well...sorta, it's complicated), only being very briefly standstilled by another worldbuster whose powers run parallel to his. He's going to mercy the Ice Queen, but should have an amazing match with Seiya or Ditto.

We're going with Jesus Rand, barring someone coming in and explaining in meticulous detail why Darth Rand is stronger. This will be reflected in his new, slightly edited writeup.

Hence why the rule exists, actually. Preventing feat inflation. Stories with a consistent direction (like Dresden Files for instance) don't have to deal with this because the increases are linear. Comics contradict each other all the time and I'm not having any of that. GameFAQS Flash still exists under the era system, but he's heavily neutered by not getting to pick feats across, what, seventy years of existence?

...except it's not really feat inflation at all. it's who the character is, it's what they've done. now sure, there's some outliers out there but for every spidey/firelord instance you've got a million that aren't and make sense with the character. and nobody ever takes those instances seriously in the first place. comes down to you really don't know what you're talking about regarding comics, or even get the complaints. it's never about the outliers that don't make sense. it's the fact that most of what's said and most of what's covered does.
