Not much going on today. Everyone's just getting to PAX so all of those impressions won't be up for a while.

- There's a new Elevator Action game coming out for PS3 next week. This trailer is cracking me up. It's like someone saw Elevator Action and Splosion Man and decided to marry the two. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/elevator-action-deluxe-in-action/

- Metal Gear Solid Rising, trying to compete with Versus XIII for biggest joke in the industry, skips TGS - http://www.savingcontent.com/2011/08/metal-gear-rising-will-not-be-at-tgs-peace-walker-hd-to-have-co-op/ - there's also some news about Peace Walker having co-op but I don't know how that will work. split screen? online? (ha!)

- this looks an awful lot like a Persona 4 Portable teaser - http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/08/25/atlus_teaser/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed - better question: PSP or Vita? I doubt they'd put the effort in to 3d-ify it for the 3DS, but they might. I'd be super excited about P4P given how good P3P turned out.

Well, there is an announced Persona title for the 3DS, so there's as good a chance as any that this could be the one they mean.

FFIV has been remade more times than most series have games. Persona 3/4 and Devil Survivor, not so much.

If I want "Let's mosey," I can play my copy of FFVII that I still own.

I don't oppose retranslations on the basis of "Oh noes they'll change the hilariously mistranslated lines!"

If the retranslation is of poor quality, then that's reason enough to complain. FFVII of all games could use a retranslation to clear up all the plot points the original translation muddled up.

They won't do it anyway. They wouldn't rerelease it without a graphics update, and that alone would take forever. Remember when they claimed making FF7 with FF13's graphics would take a decade?

I don't mean retranslating, I mean annoying retranslations with needlessly flowery dialogue. FF7 at least has a setting where that wouldn't work at all.

Stuff like Sephiroth / Jenova stands out. There were parts, especially involving Hojo, that didn't across as smoothly as they should have. Nothing was outright changed by the translation, and it was readable and understandable enough in its original state, but it could use some improving to make it flow better and for explanations not to be unintentionally vague.

What plot points were muddled up in the original?

A lot of the stuff dealing with Reunion and Sephiroth clones was pretty bad. You basically need to read the Ultimania (or talk to someone who has) to have any clue what's going on there. You won't figure it out from just playing the game.
