It's interesting to note that despite Obama's approval ratings dropping in 2010, B8's confidence in his reelection chances actually increased. This poll will be the first one since Republican contenders officially announced their campaigns and began campaigning, and the first since the death of Osama Bin Laden. Should be interesting.

yes. i'd only give him a ~60% chance against Romney and something weird could happen if he somehow ended up against Ron Paul, but that's still a probably-Yes even if you discount the very likely chances of anyone else winning.

any serious Republican candidate who isn't Romney should be circling 2016 instead.

It really depends on who the candidate is. I can't say that an "Anybody But Obama" campaign would work (just look at how that went for Kerry), but I'm bullish on there being a good candidate in the next six months.
