In the main campaign especially, the creativity that your powers inspire (the creativity, in fact, that the game's themes seemingly celebrate) is discouraged at every turn by difficulty, long levels, bad AI and random disasters. Like an overbearing parent, From Dust doesn't want you to play, it wants you to succeed, to progress.
There's a level very late in the game where the shackles are taken off. You have a loose objective, but you're really encouraged to throw mountains where they suit you and have a tsunami wipe the whole thing out if you please. Suddenly, you're unconcerned about meticulously sprinkling out sand bridges and pouring out lava walls just so. A curious thing happens when From Dust stops getting in the way and tells you to just have fun.
You have fun.
From Dust is finally able to dazzle, however briefly, by stripping away practically everything that makes it a "game" and leaving only its base mechanics behind. And you don't have to be all-knowing to realize that's a problem. -- yeah From Dust is LOOKIN A LITTLE SHAKY. ITSP I have 100% faith in next week at least!

In Bastion how does the Story score in the leaderboards work? I thought it was just for completing stuff or getting items but I played a couple hours and my score didn't go up at all. I even did things that I haven't done yet like get gold on the first 7 trials.

I'm getting From Dust through that way. The only problem with getting the games like is that they won't count towards the Buy All The Games promotion, but I wasn't going to do that anyway.

ITSP is gonna be huge if people can get past its lack of instruction. there are no words anywhere in the game and the music is mostly just ambient whirrs. the controls are unusual for about five minutes until you realize what it's going for and then it makes sense. the lack of communication will make it difficult to demo, though.
that said, this is the most Metroid-y thing I've played since Super Metroid itself. moreso than Shadow Complex, moreso than Outland, moreso than any of those games. pure exploration and atmosphere. so good.
also tranny, do you LOVE IT? do you only love it because its so super metroid-y? How are the fights? They seemed kind of intense in trailers, there also seemed to be some cool boss fights and set piece moments in the trailers.

I've only played about 15 minutes. the only fights thus far are little balls flying mindlessly. right now the whole game is kind of mysterious because you have no idea what exactly is going on, it feels so good to play though. just flying around is good. I'll say more later.
looks like the mistake has been fixed and it's no longer available. it came with a free copy of The Maw, too! woo
I'm seeing some people have already beaten it though, which is kinda worrying. then again, you could beat Super Metroid in a day and that's a game of the ever. I just hope it's more like 5-6 hours and not 3-4.
What's this I hear about a free copy of The Maw? How do I get that? I don't want to do the other free deal where you buy all of the Summer of Arcade games, because I don't want the fruit game. That being said, what is the game you get free with that?

Digi I've spent my life researching the multiples of zero and it has amounted to nothing.
leaderboards are mandatory in every xbla game. people who don't care about them usually half-ass them, and it sounds like that's what happened with Bastion.
I played From Dust last night. It's pretty awesome.
And I don't know if the Bastion leaderboard is implemented poorly per se, but I guess it is sense I have no idea how the scoring works and there's nothing in-game that tells you what it is.

I dont really care tons about the story leaderboard, I'm just annoyed the wave survival leaderboard is just based on how many difficulty things you put on, and thats it. so brad shoemaker has the #1 spot forever on all of them >_>. They could have at least added a time thing in addition to that, for more competitive leaderboards.

Yeah, not a big fan of the demo. I already have villagers getting stuck randomly, the camera is awful, it takes a bit too much work to make a simple land bridge sometimes for my liking too, just not a fan.
personally I think the xbox controls themselves work fine, the main problem is the very limited camera. I'm actually curious to see how the PS3 and PC version will work out, since picking up and laying down environmental stuff is very much centered around using the triggers.

I'm finally getting around to using these pistols, and I can see why so many people like them. The damage the deal with upgrades is almost silly, plus they can bypass armor. Even with idols on they drop enemies really fast.

just beat a boss in ITSP. I am loving this game. I just died on something and smiled big because something was threatening me and I would be able to try and fly between acid and fire while dodging enemies again. so good.

Outland tier boss fights?

also, XBLA Fans has an article previewing the ITSP multiplayer.
ITSP was already a solid game slated to take anywhere from 6 10 hours depending on how much exploration is usedJoe said if players simply blaze through it as fast as they can, theyll clock in around six hours. Lantern Run mode rounds out that experience. While the single-player will apparently feature some of the intenseness and sheer panic exhibited in Lantern Run, its a much more evenly paced explorative puzzle experience. Lantern Run matches it perfectly, with tons of decisions per minute, constant encroaching doom, and cooperative puzzle-solving. Look forward to this mode to give ITSP some longevity and replayability when it drops August 10th.
pretty interesting, good to see also that it is a decent sized game.

65% done with ITSP. there's a bunch of environmental puzzles that are cool in concept but really slow down the pace and stop the awesome exploration. I'm liking this game but it's not without its flaws. it's admirable what they go for but it doesn't always work perfectly.
Outland is a lot more conventional. ITSP is more atmospheric and moody and clever. Outland wins in pure level design while ITSP is a bit more high-concept. can't say which I like more until I'm done. Outland probably by a little bit.
It looks like I'm a little over halfway through From Dust and I'm really enjoying it. I guess the camera can be a little hard to control, but it's quick to learn and I really have no problems with the controls besides some trouble selecting things.

yeah I think the controls are totally fine. like I said, this game might be kind of hard without the triggers though, for the other systems.
I just found it kinda boring, I got annoyed when people got stuck and took bad paths, and making a simple land bridge could be a little annoying sometimes. just not my thing.

Anyone use xbox rewards? Why haven't my 200 points for buying two arcade games shown up yet? Need to waste those points on some avatars stuff or something.

It can be very slow at times. Hasn't showed up for me yet, either. Think it's been about a week since I bought my last game.
when they show up, they also won't deposit until next month or so probably, it takes a while. My 200 point showed up pretty quickly, which surprised me.

I'm getting pretty close to all achievements in Bastion. All I really need to do is the Shield challenge and beat New Game +. I think I might yet still go back and try to beat the Dream levels with all totems.

Oh by challenge I mean the memorial thing, not the proving grounds. And I don't know when the third one shows up, I thought I had just missed it my first way through.
