Also since I forgot to respond to that: I swear these so called "hints" are basically glorified confirmation bias. Like people who have expectations about the story going in see stuff where there's nothing. Heck I bet some people saw "hints" of Squall x Quistis early game before Rinoa was revealed-- doesn't mean they were there from Squall's side, though! -- No problem! Then during the big dramatic initiation mission, everything goes to hell and he gets to dramatically encounter her once again, and they team up to make everything right. It's scary how much sense that makes to me if every bit of dialogue that can be influenced by player actions is influenced in a way to minimize Squall/Rinoa interaction. And if you remove Irvine. Like it definitely needed more development there to jump to that, I think. Like when she gets taken there are some vague hints that yeah he thinks of her as more than just an annoyance, but they skipped a few steps and then it's just like OH RINOA HUG ME. -- No problem! In fact that's probably largely why I think the it seems so abrupt. The game should stop giving you such cold (and hilarious) responses to make to her somewhere in the middle of Disc 2, probably, and change the "negative" responses to "reluctant." That would help ease the transition a bit. It's also a bit disheartening that the dialogue options mean absolutely nothing in FF8. At least in FF7 you got the stupid date scene (though I would've liked more there too) If you're not gonna make the dialogue options mean anything don't even give them to me. Games like Dragon Age and Tales of Symphonia where the options actually affect how much characters like you, those are the good stuff. -- No problem!
