Playing through it again now. It's okay. I love the story of Lavos and the game looks/sounds great even today, but it's not terribly interesting outside of that. I mean, it's not bad or anything, but I don't think it's great.

I've been thinking about this, and outside of Paper Mario, I don't think I've ever loved a 2D RPG. I guess that's not entirely true. I think VP1 and 2 are pretty fun. Aside from those though, yeah.

Not a great fan of this either. Can't see what's so special about the story or what's so special about the characters. It's not bad, it's something you should try if you still like jRPG's but yeah, not something I replay once every year.
like most JRPGs of the era it has a good story, great setting, presentation was top notch for the era, but has mediocre gameplay. I still like it, but it's getting harder and harder to get into it when recently other genres have stepped up their story telling and presentation. going to play old JRPGs is just a grind with the archaic gameplay at this point, and only a few like chrono trigger are still worth playing

Ironically enough, FF6 and CT are the only RPGs I've ever beaten. I'm hoping that FF7 joins that league soon, but outside of that, nothing.
Feel free to pop up in my thread and suggest that I stick to FF for a while, whenever it comes...

I'm not a huge fan of Chrono Trigger either, the game is alright but it's not good enough to keep my attention. Last time I played (back in 2008 I think) I got to Magus' castle and stopped there.

It's certainly fun and I enjoyed it a lot more my second time through but I feel it's very much overrated. I've gotten to the end twice but just never felt the drive to kill Lavos at that point.
Great game. Own and played all the official versions, and have played all the fan translations. Pretty sure I played through the PSX version about a dozen times and always thought the load times were awful but didn't realize until later it was just the PSX version.
I like it, don't love it. It has a great soundtrack, pretty good characters, some heartfelt moments, some epic moments. Something about it keeps it from being up there with the best. Maybe the length.
It's alright. I don't really love it, there's loads of games (even RPGs) I find better, even around that same era. And past then? Probably not even in a top 50 of games. Maybe not even top 100.

The Real Truth posted... I'm thinking the battle system is probably why I don't love it myself. It feels like they just threw a bunch of stuff together.
WHAT???
And no I've played through more than just 15 games, although the estimate may be as low as 30.

I used to really like Chrono Trigger, but I got tired of it during the New Game Plus. Sure, I get everything CT does right. But I still find it overrated (specially compared to FFVI).
