Israel wanna send a song called October Rain (not released yet) and it allegedly contain very political lyrics which isnt allowed at Eurovision. Israel says they will withdraw if October Rain isnt approved, which it wont be if the lyrics are political.

I'm sure Israel would rather withdraw over a 'principle', than be thrown out because of disgust at their ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

If they do that, the EBU won't have to make a decision either, so it would suit everyone.

So Ukranians went into Russia and massacred a thousand people? Thats not what I saw.

Say what you want about the atrocities in Gaza now, its all well deserved at this point, but the events of October 7th essentially ruin any claim Hamas has of being an organized resistance movement. You want to make comparisons about the IDF and Russia with regards to civilian casualties, fine. The numbers are what they are, and cannot be disputed.

But theres not much else to compare with regards to how the two conflicts got started.

Not at all. But terrorism is terrorism and is inexcusable.

The Israel Hamas relationship is classic chicken and the egg.

If your narrative is that Israel is the last vestige of colonialism and an occupying force that doesnt have the right to exist, then Hamas is simply a reaction to decades of occupation and therefore is an Israeli creation designed to continue further subjugation of the Palestinians.

And if your narrative is that Israel has the right to exist, and the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is only continued because of Hamas inability to understand that its tactics do not serve the legitimate concerns of the Palestinians in their pursuit of national sovereignty and the right of self determination, then Israels tactics in Gaza are a reaction to decades of living in fear of Hamas.

Now neither one of those narratives is entirely true, but there are grains of truth to both. Violence only leads to more violence. I just disagree with any ceasefire without a return of the hostages and the leaders of Hamas in handcuffs because of October 7th.

Honestly, Id have thought you smarter than this. If at any point during the last three months I ever said that I thought that Israelis killing civilians was morally justified at all, or that terrorism against Palestinians is ok while terrorism against Israelis is not, Im pretty sure my account would have been banned already.

Because thats not nor has it been my position. You putting words in my mouth doesnt change that. The way I see it, the war ends in two ways. One, a ceasefire now, Hamas stays in power, and the fate of the hostages is in limbo. Two, a ceasefire now, hostages returned, and Hamas crushed. (Maybe an Israeli election with Bibi removed from power and a two state solution if were lucky.)

I favor the latter. I see the former as merely a delay until the next round of fighting. That doesnt mean I think the civilian casualties, or those disgusting reports of rape and mistreatment of civilians in this war are remotely acceptable, justifiable, or anything remotely consistent with Jewish values.

So if you cant get that through your thick skull, do us both a favor and block me already, if you find my position that problematic.

In fairness, they're improving a bit. I've noticed a lot less bad moderations lately. And whereas in the past I had one overturn in about 15 years of on and off using the site, this time around I've had probably close to a 50% overturn rate when I've contested - including a few warnings.

Still plenty of room to improve, but they do seem to be on the right track.
