I had a very depressing dream about attending my 20th anniversary reunion and now I'm wondering if I can make it reality.

I get approached every year about one despite the fact that Ive never attended one and never will.

Last year the guy who asked couldnt understand why I wasnt interested in travelling across continents to spend an evening with people I have deliberately avoided for the last twenty years.

How did he even find you lol

I don't even know why I want to go. I spoke to people here and there but never made any long lasting friendships (well, that's the story of my life period) and I don't even know if I'd recognize anyone or if they'd recognize me.

When my 10th was coming up one of the girls from my class created a FB group for it. Then covid hit and evidently it was cancelled lol I wasn't gonna go anyway.

Been invited to a few through Facebook. Wasn't really bothered to go though. I'm still in touch with and see any of the people from high school that I'd even care to see.

Same. That's how I found out about my 20th Anniversary reunion that I didn't go to.

I'm not on Facebook, but I hear about them from people who saw it on Facebook. From there I asked to be put on an email list by whoever was coordinating things.

there is a Facebook group for my graduating class and reunion stuff gets posted there. i graduated in 2001 and have never been to one. the people i actually care to keep in touch with, i keep in touch with. and anyone who wants to 'reconnect' with me can find me on FB.

the idea of going to a reunion and having basically the same "catch up" conversation with 100 people i will likely never see again sounds excruciating.

There's a part of me that would like to go and show all the people I knew in HS how good a shape I'm in, because I was always fat in school. But I don't care enough about impressing all those people who I have no interest in ever seeing again. It would just be a shallow boost to my ego and honestly I don't need that lol

There was a facebook group for mine, but we graduated in 2010, so our ten year reunion...well no one was going outside much, even in FL lol

Unless you had a proper circle of friends, these are entirely "show off your success/spouse" events.

I honestly feel like social media is diminishing that as a concept.

Or we could say "millennials are killing it".

EDIT: Of course, take that opinion with a grain of salt coming from a single, only modestly successful person lol. >_>

Same year as me lol and yeah covid screwed that. I wonder if they ever did like a 12 or 13 year reunion in place of it. Probably just the few people organizing it (because that's who it's for after all) got together in a bar somewhere.

exactly. back in the day, reunions were practically the only way to reconnect with those people. today we have social media.

Yeah but I can't find half the people I would even want to talk to on social media any more. And I doubt even half of those would want to talk to me anyway -_- I don't even know why I want to go

There was an FB group created ahead of my 10 year reunion (I graduated HS in 2007), but I did not go as I live 3 timezones east. However, a lot of people had moved out of state.

My wife presumably has a 20 year reunion next year, and from what I have gathered is that most of her graduating class is still in the area.

I had friends, but the ones that I wanted to stay in touch with, I have regardless of not going to any of the reunions. Anybody I didnt stay in touch with, its because I didnt want to.

I heard about mine from Facebook but I didn't bother going cuz it sounded dumb.

Apparently it sucked. First off, they didn't even have it in the same fucking town as the high school! They had it in the next town over LOL. Only like 20 people out of 400 in our class showed up. I guess I didn't miss much

I go every 10, and they're not bad. Not at all the grandstanding stuff you see on TV/movies. There was a little at first (really just one person who had been a complete wreck in HS), but life has a way of evening things out and everyone became more mellow over time.

Facebook

A group was created for our 15th, and only about ten people showed up (because one guy took over the planning and made it on a TUESDAY, but everyone was too apathetic to challenge him). This year is our 20th, and the original group creator asked if anyone would be willing to help her plan something. No one responded lol. Social media really has killed the high school reunion.
