In 32 years, I've only voluntarily used easy mode once, except for achievements that require beating easy mode after I already finished the game.

Never. Easy Mode is for babies unless you're trophy hunting. Always Normal on first playthrough if the harder modes aren't available from the jump.

For shmups. I also use bombs and continues and usually still don't beat the game.

If I know I'm bad at the genre I'll go easy, but usually I do normal.

if harder difficulty means the enemy become sponges then fuck that I'm not wasting my time killing something in 3 minutes vs killing them in 15 seconds

I've done that for Ys, but that's about it. Normal on anything else. I did easy for Ys Origins since I wasn't sure what the gameplay was like, plus it got me some achievements. Then I did it for Ys 1 since it was recommended.

Mostly never, but sometimes when I decide I'm just playing the game for the experience of seeing the game and the story, in a hit-it-and-quit-it kind of way.

If there's more than two difficulties, though, I never pick the top one, either. Not unless I decide to do a replay.

There are a few games that I should have played on Easy mode, just to get through the game, and never play it again... but alas, I simply stopped playing them because they were trash... on easy mode, I would have beat the game and THEN stopped playing, because I could have done it without having to conserve ammo, or heal, or whatever.

Easy mode was made for video game journalists that dont actually know how to play games competently but they need to get that review up ASAP.

I play easy mode for games I don't really care about but just want to get through for the story or to just experience it. I'll still use it for MGS2 if I replay it

I guess nowadays i'm not really into "beating" games as much as I used to be so it's much less common

This thread reminds me of the Jim Sterling video about elitism among gamers. I personally am too busy clicking quickly to select anything but normal by and large, but I would never begrudge someone an easy mode play. Games are meant to be fun, and fun is different for different people.

It happens. I usually go for normal, but if I die like 15 times on the same place then I might change it to easy.

I think I actually beat Persona 5 on easy.

Usually, easy if it's something involving reflexes or dexterity, normal if it's turn-based. Maybe I am not part of the super kool whiz kid gamerz but eh I'd rather enjoy my vidya games

sometimes when I am just dicking around, for the most part i pick normal unless it's something like Hitman where I just want to have fun. I also play persona games on easy so I can maximize my level so I can spend less times doing dungeons and more time doing s links

i literally never play on hard mode though I play games to relax and explore for the most part, I do not enjoy a "challenge," that's not a thing for me

Don't usually play on easy, but playing on easy is fine if you want to. I prefer to get the most challenge I can get out of a game without it being completely asinine (lunatic mode in FE:A for instance is a little too much). Exceptions exist. "Easy mode" in FTL is essentially a misnomer as the game is still quite challenging at that level and feels more "normal" than "easy" and I'd probably not recommend even a veteran video game player start out on normal in that game.

I usually research if "normal" mode is too easy and my standard setting is hard. I don't really remember the last time I played a game on easy but nothing against that.

Other than for trophy purposes, almost never. I think the only game that I switched to easy mode during a playthrough was Etrian Odyssey IV, and that's because I wasn't enjoying the game enough to grind and really learn the battle system. I was kind of over it at that point, but didn't want to drop it as I was already over halfway through.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Planescape:Torment Enhanced Edition are the only games i've played with "easy" settings since i was v young. the combat in planescape torment is garbage and i would turn it off if that was an option, the combat in hellblade drags on for too long but does have some cool moments. the non-boss enemies are just way too spongy.
been advised that if i ever wanna play witcher 3, that's another game that benefits from easy mode so if i ever get round to it was gonna keep that in mind in case the combat is as much of a chore as it is in 1 and 2.
i'm usually a "normal" except for the more modern Fire Emblem games where i've gone hard/casual.

I'll go easy for achievements when I can, and sometimes I'll play a campaign on Easy when the difficulty select screen recommends it (Choose this difficulty level if you've never played x game before!). I mostly did this because the first Gears I ever played was DLC for Gears of War 3, and so I was afraid that choosing anything not easy might lock me out of tutorials, which would've been bad considering I had never played a Gears game before.
