I enjoy their videos overall but I have no problem seeing where the complaints are coming from. Honestly kind of just find the videos a guilty pleasure - just hanging around with a guy making dumb nitpicks about movies.

The Home Alone 2 one is gold BTW, and not just because of a billion sins being added in the middle for a certain cameo.

i don't like "gatekeeping" being nerdy but something about CinemaSins and Honest Trailers rubs me the wrong way.

Haven't seen it (since CinemaSins is crap) but, assuming you're referring to the Trump cameo, why exactly do you think it's a good thing that they're getting needlessly political?

I used to really enjoy it and catch every video. It just seemed like silly fun, and I liked the in-jokes that would develop (ah the Prometheus School of Running Away)

I kinda fell out of it awhile ago, like my interest just waned. And then sometime way after that I started seeing all these people talking about cinemasins killing comedy AND theater, like it's evil incarnate or whatnot. Yikes! I don't know about that!

CinemaSins is pretty bad. I think they're the ones that, when told about how their plotholes and nitpicks are actually wrong, they get super defensive and shitty about it. Like, if you make obvious clickbait videos for a living where you point out issues with a movie, then get pissed when people nitpick your nitpicks, frankly you can go fuck yourself.

I enjoy the videos and I know that a lot of the stuff they point out are just dumb jokes and not actually sins. I don't know why anybody would form such a strong opinion one way or the other.

I really like CinemaWins too.

i think the problem i have with cinemasins is that it has a VERY vocal hardcore fanbase (how could such a thing have one of those?) and they preach about it like the gospel

it's fucking annoying, it's a joke channel where some dude nitpicks movies. it is not high film criticism.

It used to actually be pretty good. I rewatched the Jurassic Park one recently and it was still genuinely funny and pointed out real errors in a humorous way. But somewhere along the way it became a channel that was just about making bad jokes under the flimsy pretence of "sins". The vast majority of jokes aren't funny at all, and the sins don't make any sense in any context (the low point for me was pointing out physics errors in cartoons). It's such a terrible channel now, like a crappier Honest Trailers, but I understand why it still has fans because it was once clever and funny little videos.

It's cllickbait. They churn out videos based on what's currently popular, point out "plot holes" that can be explained if they were paying attention, and get millions of views.

I watched a bunch of em as background noise over the course of a few days fairly recently.

Didn't have much desire to watch any after that, but they're not bad

They're seem to be fairly self aware that they're not actually doing anything but nitpicking (even at a stretch to call it nitpicking at times) so I don't have a problem with it. Obviously if you go in wanting actual well thought out valid criticism of the movie you're going to have a bad time. It's just some reminiscing over a movie combined with some mindless humor which is hit or miss but done at a rapid enough clip that the misses aren't dwelled upon so it works well enough.

Honest trailers is awful though. Don't think I've ever laughed once at one.

I watched CinemaSins Finding Nemo review.

I lasted for about 1 minute watching, due to the unfunny jokes.

I see Honest Trailers, CinemaSins, and How It Should Have Ended as different sides of the same coin. They point out really ridiculous things that happen in movies that maybe you wouldn't have thought of as a way of fun criticism.

But I think very poorly of Honest Trailers and CinemaSins. It's just so low effort. They REALLY scrounge the bottom of the barrel of nitpicking in order to come up with stuff to say. There are often legit plotholes or editing errors or whatever for them to point out, but it's drowned out by 100 other petty nitpicks that aren't legit. They'll point out an inconsistency and I'll just think "uh, did you watch the movie? that ties in later, what are you even talking about???" or sometimes they'll just point a normal character trait or set piece as if it's a Sin but it's just.....a normal choice in the movie.

I find them really annoying to watch. It's becomes less a fun unravelling of weird stuff in movies and more just an annoyingly toxic way to shit on every single movie that ever comes out. I enjoy breaking down why a piece of content messed up certain things (like Red Letter Media does) but I really dislike approaching it from a place of negativity to begin with. It's just a killer of joy.

Meanwhile, i LOVE HISHE. I feel like fundamentally it's the same idea of the other two channels - let's identify where the movie went wrong and poke fun at it, but obviously their execution is way different. Instead of playing footage from the movie and throwing out a hundred small criticisms, HISHE picks out just a few big things they thought were silly and then animates a segment around it.

Even if I disagree with the point they are making, it's usually fun anyways, because they are putting themselves out there too, just like the movie did. They've made a choice on what they think could have been fixed and committed to it. They are being creative and making their own piece of content, and you can criticize it or love it just like the original movie. You can respect that and go along for the ride.

Plus the superhero cafe is god tier.

I just like CinemaSins, at least overall, but I agree with many of the criticisms of it. Basically just a guilty pleasure.

I like Honest Trailers actually. Again, it's not as good as it was when it started, they seemed to have forgotten that it's supposed to be a parody of movie trailers , instead of just making jokes like commentary but I still find them entertaining enough.

Honest Game Trailers is absolutely terrible though.
