Looking up "Tim Burton movies" told me that Beetlejuice 2 is a thing. I can only assume it's terrible.

Other than M. Night Shymalan, is he the big director who fell the furthest?

I wanted to do a ranking to do a ranking but felt offended by the inclusion of Nightmare Before Christmas, which technically isn't a movie of him.

Having Batman Returns and Charlie over Big Fish is quite unacceptable too. Ok I stop now...

Sweeney Todd is far and away his best (that I've seen)

Sweeney Todd >>>>>> Ed Wood > Beetlejuice > Edward Scissorhands > Sleepy Hollow >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Charlie and the Chocolate Factory > Alice in Wonderland

If you count the ones he only produced:

Sweeney Todd >>>>>> Ed Wood > Beetlejuice > Nightmare Before Christmas > 9 > Edward Scissorhands > James and the Giant Peach > Miss Peregrine's > Sleepy Hollow >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Charlie and the Chocolate Factory > Alice in Wonderland

Ed Wood > NBC > Beetlejuice > Edward Scissorhands > Pee-Wee > Sweeney Todd > Batman Returns > Frankenweenie > Big Fish > Batman > Sleepy Hollow > Mars Attacks > Dark Shadows > Corpse Bride > Miss Peregrine >>>>>>>>> Alice in Wonderland > Charlie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Planet of the Apes

Also, Beetlejuice 2 isn't a thing just yet, just been in development hell forever.

Charlie isn't THAT bad. It's inferior to the original for sure, but if the original didn't exist, I don't think people would hate it as much as they do. It's arguably truer to the book than the original.

Meh ok will bring some sense here.

Edward Scissordhands > Ed Wood >= Big Fish >= Corpse Bride >= Sweeney Todd >== Sleepy Hollow > Frankenweenie > Mars Attacks! >= Beetlejuice > Charlie and the Chocolate Factory > Batman > Batman Returns >>>>>> Alice in Wonderland

Haven't seen (truly his):

Dark Shadows
Big Eyes
Miss Peregrine
Planet of the Apes
Pee-Wee

Vincent would be at least over Frankenweenie, and NBC would be right there.

Also I haven't seen the original Charlie but did read the book. I liked the movie a lot more the first time I watched it but a rewatch quite hurt it.

ok but the original DOES exist

which makes the remake at BEST completely unnecessary and at worst a disgusting cash-in that makes a mockery of Gene Wilder's best performance

but even if you get rid of the original, that still leaves a movie filled with bafflingly bad decisions. All the Oompa Loompas as tiny CGI copies of one guy? Johnny Depp acting like someone you'd never let around your children? Bizarre (and frankly awful) genre parody songs?

Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby are both in my top 15 ever! Unforgiven was really good too, as were Changeling and Gran Torino. Pretty sure I would enjoy a lot some of his 90s stuff but haven't watched it.

However since Gran Torino he'd made at least 3 mediocre movies at best (Invictus, J. Edgar and American Sniper).
