The world's pretty much better than it's been for the last 20,000 years of human civilization. I don't see why people would be scared to bring kids into this world, if their parents weren't, grandparents weren't, and so on.

You can find quotes from Socrates talking about how the world was going to shit back in Ancient Greece and that books were making kids lazy anti-social ingrates with no social skills or work ethic. Everyone always thinks the world is doing badly and getting permanently worse than the recent past. Culture isn't an inexorable march forward but especially for the past 200ish years things have steadily been getting better even accounting for some nasty blips.

I want to have at least two kids and I know they'll be born into a world where they're almost guaranteed to avoid violent death and nearly all physical hardship. Not sure what the job market or civil society will look like but those are always changing a lot.

Having kids is like giving your kids the death penalty and a life of slavery to pay bills while worrying about injuries or sickness. All of that just so you can say "my kids are so cute and look like me".

I've known since I was 11 years old that I would never have kids. The world wasn't exactly pretty back then either. I have a million reasons I would never have kids, and how much horrible stuff could happen to them is certainly up there.

Kind of agree with Thugstar, being born is a terminal diagnosis. How fun. Of course I've also wished my mother never had me.

Not true. Nothing is stopping you from up and leaving to live in the wild for the rest of your lives. As for injuries and sickness... yea they suck but theyre temporary (unless youre stuck with a severe illness which sucks)

People are so caught up on thinking they need to live in society to survive. Not trying to sound like a hippy, but its scary thinking about how were brainwashed to think that we need to live the life you described

Of course i love my video games so ill pay my dues and work corporate like an idiot, but i can leave anytime
