Can you explain what's appealing about MM? I know some people who like him but never understood why.

His first three albums were genuinely great IMO, especially Antichrist Superstar. I feel like he's been going downhill since Holywood and now his music just sounds boring and repetitive to me.

Man That You Fear is still one of my favorite songs of all time:

Teens tend to be emo and like things they perceive as being rebellious and counterculture.

That's really all there is to it, honestly.

It's because you grew up.

The nostalgia rush is still enough to maintain your interest in his older work, but now that you're older you're recognizing the flaws in his newer work because you lack a pre-existing positive bias towards it (and in fact, nostalgia bias will probably leave you more inclined to reject newer material than someone with no prior association to his music whatsoever).

He was never really all that good - even at his best, he was usually just a poor man's Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails anyway. He mostly compensated by being over-the-top showy and overdramatic in his persona.

I heard he surgically removed his bottom two ribs so he could give himself a bj.

I never really liked him, even when I was in high school (when he was at his peek). Like I would listen to pretty much everything else 90's rock/alternative but any time he came on the radio I would just turn it off or switch to another station.

Oddly enough though, because he went on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins a couple years ago, I have seen him live. It felt like a Alice Cooper concert, but without the talent.
