this one is recent and new/exciting.

cat went and stayed in the engine compartment while they destroyed the car.

hopefully they got insurance that'll cover the damages (or they'll pocket the money like usual).

That legit happened to one of my coworkers a while back. Not sure if the extent of damage was the same, but the breed of dog was, as was the involvement of a cat.

Not the same person tho cause this happened at the workplace and the ground in the preview is totally different. Tho I did come in wondering if it'd be about her in all honesty.

Maybe the breeding and ownership of these dogs should be better regulated since they're so powerful and aggressive, but that is seen as completely unacceptable to so many people. It's insanity.

While Im against an outright breed ban, I would support this. More laws enforcing responsible pet ownership need to be passed imo.
Let the local governments bleed backyard or dodgy breeders dry until the breeder can no longer profit.
Make the owners get a specific license with semi-regular check-ins from animal control to ensure the pit or other bully breed is secure and not putting anyone outside of the property at risk*.

*If someone enters the property without the owners consent and gets mauled or killed, thats the fault of the person entering. If a parent cant teach their kids to not enter a yard without permission or at least not to enter a yard with a dog in it, then those parents deserve to be in jail for being failures.

This is a bad take. The two things everyone knows about kids is they don't always obey adults and they love dogs. If you actually believe pit/similar dog breeds are orders of magnitudes more dangerous than other dogs then they just don't belong in suburban neighborhoods, anymore than a lion or a front yard booby trap does.

Personally, I AM for a breed ban.

Treat the ones still around well. But don't make any new ones. Yes, strays will still do their own thing. But most of those will at least be mixes that dilute themselves over time. Besides, it will encourage the people who actually want a pit like dog to rescue shelter dogs.

Yeah, but the thing is... That's still because you were taught it. And you can't assume every parent cares enough to do that. "Stupid" would be an appropriate label perhaps for a kid who is taught but disregards it; but not for a kid whose parents just failed to teach them this.

A lot of things that are considered "common sense" are things we assume everyone is taught, not things people inherently know. Especially when it comes to kids, the distinction is more important than most people think about.

Now, with that being said, that doesn't necessarily have to mean an outright ban is the only way. I wouldn't lose sleep over one (as long as existing dogs were grandfathered - I don't have any myself but taking away existing pets in that manner is just cruel), but I think "must have an enclosed yard that is hard for kids to access unauthorized, or else must keep the dog indoors unless muzzled and leashed" or something as a requirement for owning such a breed is going far enough.

And I did say that the parents should be punished.
If a parent cant teach their kids to not enter a yard without permission or at least not to enter a yard with a dog in it, then those parents deserve to be in jail for being failures.
Now exceptions for kids with intellectual disabilities could be made, but generally, the parents should be at fault. If a kid runs into the street and is hit by traffic, you dont blame a driver who was obeying the rules of the road.
